The England region

Cornwall is renowned for its mild climate, being a peninsular, benefiting from the warmth of the Gulf Stream drift. Our position is convenient for road access to all parts of Cornwall to visit the many places steeped in history/heritage and monuments together with a magnificent coastline to the Atlantic, providing sandy beaches and coves, many of which are famous for surfing. Cornwall has theme parks and attractions, golf courses, fishing villages and harbours, museums and galleries and, of course, the much acclaimed Eden Project near St Austell.

St Issey

Our cottages are situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty in Cornwall and provides cosy, quality, well-equipped accommodation and a perfect retreat at any time of the year in the glorious North Cornwall countryside. The cottages are set in a courtyard in a quiet country lane and surrounded by
farmland. They are within easy reach of many beautiful sandy beaches and coves and magnificent coastal walks, where you can enjoy spectacular views of the cliffs and seabird activity from the coastal paths.

The nearby Camel Estuary offers sailing, windsurfing, water skiing, canoeing and rowing. A disused railway line has been transformed into an extremely pleasing route along the Estuary from Padstow to Wadebridge and onward to Bodmin for walking and cycling. A visit to ‘The Camel Trail’ is a must! Leat Cottage is just three miles from the friendly town of Wadebridge, which offers all the amenities of banks, bakers, butchers, greengrocers, post office and many interesting independent shops, together with supermarkets and the John Betjeman Centre. Everyone likes to visit the ancient fishing port of Padstow with its fascinating harbour, shops and renowned seafood, which is five miles away. There are stately homes and gardens such as Pencarrow, Lanhydrock, and Trerice within easy reach and the moors of Bodmin and woods at Cardinham provide further interest. There is a wide choice of restaurants to suit all tastes in the immediate vicinity.

“A delightful stay”

Reviewed 14 Aug 2014

The owners of Hawksland Mill were very welcoming, helpful, and hospitable. The cottage was immaculately-presented, located in beautiful surroundings, and very child-friendly. Within easy reach of Padstow and Newquay, and with excellent facilities in very nearby Wadebridge, we found it to be an excellent base for our stay in Cornwall and would most certainly stay again. Thanks for having us!

“Relaxing, cosy cottage.”

Reviewed 5 Aug 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Lower Mill cottage. Beautiful cottages in a great location for seeing a lot of places around Padstow and Wadebridge (a car is essential!) as well as places further afield. Very clean and well presented. The cottages are tucked out of the way meaning you can escape the busyness of Cornwall and retreat to a peaceful place. Richard and Jane were very friendly and helpful upon arrival and through to departure. We arrived early and the cottage was ready for us which we were very grateful for after a long journey. If I were to be picky, I would suggest plumper pillows in the bedroom! There are also great views available, however, from Lower Mill, the best view is obscured by a big Conifer tree! Overall, we had a lovely stay and will definitely return. We are already talking about booking for next year!

A lovely review and we appreciate the guests' comments. We provide good quality feather pillows as standard. If guests require non-feather pillows, these are available upon request. We receive a lot of compliments on the standard of bedding, but some travellers with special likes will bring their own pillows.

“cottage near Padstow”

Reviewed 15 Jul 2014

Lovely cottage for 2 in an ideal location and pleasant views - 2.5 miles via the back roads on a bike which brings you onto the Camel Trail - from there you can cycle into Padstow or Wadebridge The cottage was beautifully clean and had thoughtful extras such as a brolly (not required) and a torch Plenty of parking and an inside store for the bikes ,pushchairs, surfboards etc Jane and Richard very pleasant unobtrusive hosts

“A quiet location with a friendly welcome and excellent accommodation.Try it”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2013

The Hawksland Mill cottages are situated on a quiet road with lovely views over the farmland towards the coast. The cottages, plants and lawn area are maintained to a very high standard.Richard and Jane who live on site, are extremely welcoming and are a lovely mixture of being both friendly and professional. We stayed for one week in the one bedroom cottage. The bedroom and bathroom are a good size and whilst the kitchen is compact the design worked well. Both of us felt very comfortable and "at home." The location of the sited necessitates the need for a car. Although close to the A39 there was no traffic noise. We will go again when the opportunity arises.

“Peaceful Week”

Reviewed 26 Jul 2013

Good location, nice and quiet. You are in a farming area so expect the odd farming smell, it was not a problem. Our hosts were most helpful, all we needed was in Lower Mill. Had wall to wall sunshine all week so were out a lot. Nice to return to our accommodation to freshen up before the evening. Tesco is nearby so are other facilities and the coast. Very peaceful, you would need transport to make the most of the area. Would definitely visit again.

We are as always pleased to hear confirmation that our guests have enjoyed their holiday at Hawksland Mill. We are situated in a lovely unspoilt area of North Cornwall, which is only sparcely populated and is predominantly a farming area. Fortunately, though, the farming is beef cattle, dairy herds, arable, vegetables and fuel crops, and we do not have any pig farms at all. The smells which occur occasionally are the result of 'muck-spreading' and washing through of dairy units, which are normal for any country area and should not spoil the enjoyment of our 4star accommodation.

“Do not missout book now”

Reviewed 24 Jun 2013

Our 7th stay in Cornwall and the best by far these cottages have everything, great setting, quiet, very clean, all rooms fitted out with quality and comfort in mind, for self catering holidays dont miss this one.we will return again.

“A great Cottage,Location, and Owner Attention to every detail.”

Reviewed 13 Oct 2011

Tip-- the directions to Hawksland involve a key reference point ie how to proceed from where you cross the River Camel, we did so and got lost, because the refence is intended for the second time you cross the Camel and that crossing is not named on the Bridge. For Overseas ie non UK residents [ Australian in our case] dont expect to travel to far quickly by road when exploring because the Cornwall B roads and smaller are VERY small and narrow and visibility poor so proceed slowly. Hawksland is a pristine facility, of great quality, with every convenience, and being our very first self -catering experience in the UK was not surpassed during our total 3 months stay by the balance of our cottages another 5 in all. Would not hesitate to come back if the occassion arises. Value for price excellent.

“Fantastic flat with all you need”

Reviewed 5 Oct 2011

The one bed flat is in a mill conversion and has been finished and maintained to a very high standard. The flat is set in attractive grounds and the location, a few minutes from Wadebridge, is ideal; close to Padstow and the north coast and not too far from the Eden project and Truro.

It is very kind of these guests to take the trouble to post a review and we are going to have a trial period without plastic protectors on double beds whilst retaining them on single beds, where there is the greatest risk of soiling by children.
