Description from owner

We welcome all nationalities to our lovely property (we have had Australians, Swiss, German, English, Welsh, Americans, New Zealanders, Canadians, French, Belge, Dutch and Chinese ) and to St Didier, a most unique and charming village.

Park La Truffiere is a 3200 square meter property which 100 years ago had been part of a one hectare truffle farm. The house is the original house on the property but both the land and house have been completely renovated , restored and redesigned. A 220 meter passageway has been constructed now to get to Park La Truffiere. In the park itself many of the 100 year old trees have cut down or trimmed to open up sunny spaces for the wonderful 11X4 salt water swimming pool, the deep blue Provencal skies, the gardens, sitting and dining areas. On the other hand many trees have been retained for beauty and shade which is vitally necessary in the hot summer months. There is nothing like old great oaks for coolness and serenity and believe me you will love

There is nothing like old great oaks for coolness and serenity and believe me you will love these trees. So actually on this property there are trees on every side, north, south , east and west which give much privacy and protection and create a barrier to the other houses around. Also there is the attraction of all the birds which love old twisted trees and make for marvelous relaxation and peace of mind. This is a holiday in a park where you can swim, eat, read relax and be with your family and friends in complete privacy and comfort. Ideal for families and reunions of families and friends. The property sits in a neighborhood which is 800 to 900 meters walking distance to the lovely village of St Didier where one will find five restaurants and pizzerias, cafes, three bakeries, butcher, news stand, nougaterie and ice cream shop, pharmacy, doctors, dentist ,coiffure and whatever one would need. So one can literally walk every morning to the village for croissants and bread, have a coffee, pick up the newspaper and walk back to the property for breakfast. The house has been completely restored in warm Provencal colors and materials; 35 m2 living room with large open fireplace, 22m2 meter bathroom with oversized granite bathtub/ sink and walk in Italian shower, 26m2 kitchen with cut stone counter tops with a small covered porch. There are 4 bedrooms (actually 5 bedrooms if you include the cottage with its own kitchen and bathroom), 2 in the front of the house with French doors which open to the large veranda and the park to the front side of the house. The master bedroom has a big window with view on the new pool. One bedroom is in the upper floor with separate sink and toilet. All bedrooms have double beds. Three rooms have large inbuilt cupboards with large cupboard in the hallway.By bike, car or foot, one can visit the most beautiful villages the south of France can offer; Gordes, Venasque, Isle sur Sorgue, Avignon, Roussillon. What is the most unique thing about this area is that there is water unlike the rest of the south. Fountain de Vaucluse with its unexplorable source is very near so there is water and where there is water there is vegetation and fruit trees. This is the bread basket of France with cherry, fig, olive, melon and berries plentiful. The ocean to Marseille or Cassis is a 1 to 1 and a half hr drive; Avignon is a half hour drive. Bike ways( bikes can be rented nearby), for the beginner or the most advanced all the way to the Mt Ventoux and everything in between, walkways though the vineyards and many medieval villages all nearby. Whatever your heart desires, it is here. Please see the reviews to know what other renters have written about their stay with us!

Further details

Large private salt (thus no chlorine or wasps) swimming pool (11x4), situated on one side of the house where lots of trees have been cleared for maximal sun yet enough trees nearby for shade and coolness.

Since 2012 Park la Truffière has a separate cottage for rent with 45 M2 for 2 persons. Please read reviews so you can see what all the other renters have written about their stay

Further details outdoors

This is an oak tree park so there are truffles under these oak trees (thus the name of the park Park La Truffière). It is well known in Provence that one living here must have a tree for shade. Well here the guest has many trees and it is a pure delight to be in this house or park at any time of the year.

Location description from owner

The Provence region

VAUCLUSE in the beautiful Provence, with 300 sunny days per year; Provence is an all-year round destination.
The Vaucluse is bordered by the Rhne to the west and the River Durance to the south. Mountains occupy a significant proportion of the eastern half of the department, with the Mont Ventoux (1,912 m), also known as "the Giant of Provence", dominating the landscape. Other important mountain ranges include the Dentelles de Montmirail, the Monts de Vaucluse, and the Luberon. Fruit and vegetables are cultivated in great quantities in the lower-lying parts of the department, on one of the most fertile plains in southern France.
Important urban centers include Avignon, Orange, Carpentras, Cavaillon and Apt.
The Vaucluse is in the heart of Provence, where the Luberon lies, with its hilltop villages.Provence is home to the Mont Ventoux, lavender, wine and sunflower fields. Provence has as its capital city Avignon, which is ranked as a UNESCO world heritage site. The Provence has lively markets, truffles, olive oil and outstanding wines,Chateauneuf du Pape, Ctes du Rhone, Gigondas etc.
A 30 minutes drive from St Didier leads you on a tour of all the famous Provencal towns including Gordes, Roussillon, Menerbes, Bonnieux and Lourmarin which have been made known by Peter Mayle and his books .
An antiquing weekend in l 'Isle sur la Sorgue, a hike around Vaison la Romaine, a wine celebration in the wine villages, a charming house in St.Didier, provides you with every secret of the true Provence.

St .Didier itself is a very charming typical Provencal village with shops, restaurants and cafes. It has everything one needs( bakeries, butcher, magazine shop, grocery shop, pharmacy, markets, library, tennis club, special nougat maker, old church and monastery). It is surrounded by wine, cherry and fruit fields and is very near to the ancient famous hilltop village of Venasque. From Venasque one can go by bike or car over the Colle de Murs or Route de Gordes to the very famous village of Gordes and into the Luberon Valley. Gordes is only 14 km away from St Didier. Half way to Gordes one pases the incredible Abbaye de Senaque with its lavender field entrance and Gregorian chant invitations from its monks. Once into the Luberon, all the villages made famous by Peter Mayle's My Year in Provence are near. Roussillon, Menerbes, Lacoste, Bonnieux, Apt, Goult all are near to visit. But coming back over to the St Didier side, there are gorgeous villages going to the Mt Ventoux direction: Crillon Le Brave, Bedoin, Mormoiron etc. Avignon is 30 minutes away with its papal residency. Aix en Provence is also 1 hr drive as is Marseille and the sea. One hidden jewel is Cassis just east of Marseille on the famous calanque hills which jut directly into the sea.
Horse back riding, swimming, tennis golf, parasailing, mountain and rock climbing, visiting the Haute Provence, the land of Jean Giono with villages like Manosque and Sisteron. Provence and the Vaucluse are cultural havens with festivals for food, music, theatre, sport, art, ceramics. The Provencal will make every excuse to have a festival to celebrate anything. The guest in the Vaucluse can be as alone as you like or gathering with locals and internationals .

“Beautiful loxurious summer residence”

Reviewed 20 Aug 2014

We have spent our holiday in Susanna and Dominic’s lovely house in St. Didier. We were my wife and I, my oldest daughter and my youngest daughter with her husband his daughter and their 2 dogs. The house has enough space for all of us and the lovely big garden where the dogs loved to play. We enjoyed very much the lovely salt water pool which is much nicer than the usual pools. The house is very nice equipped with all kinds of modern facilities and especial the kitchen is very well equipped. During our stay Susanna and Dominic stay in the small cottages in the front of the house. They were very helpful and very discreet and because of the very big garden and land it was no problem at all. We can strongly recommend Susanna and Dominic’s house if you want to have a nice stay in one of the most beautiful parts of France. Our key word is: nice, calm and exclusive. Lis & Hans

“Perfect holiday”

Reviewed 30 Jul 2013

From the start when I communicated with Dominic and Susanna this promised to the perfect holiday. And it was. The property is lovely in a wonderful location with fantastic facilities including a superb pool and great relaxation and leisure facilities. This is the perfect venue for a large group. Dominic and Susanna recommended several places to visit and we were able to contact them very readily if we had any queries. We do hope to return to such a wonderful holiday home.

“Lovely St Didier”

Reviewed 14 Jul 2013

We had a wonderful time in the Provence. The owners gave us a lot of useful about where to go near St Didier. They also helped us to book two of the restaurants that they recommended. The house was spacious and charmingly Provencal with a very large swimming pool, lots of flowers and trees for shade from the hot sun and lovely colors in and outside of the house. The location of the property in St Didier was perfect to set off everyday as we did to discover the Vaucluse. It was a special trip for our family and friends.

“Lovely Cottage in a perfect setting- wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt!”

Reviewed 14 Dec 2012

Me and my wife enjoyed this 2 weeks in the Cottage "Parc la Truffière" very much. A perfect equiped cottage for 2 persons with its own sitting place under oak trees. The cottage is lovely furnished and has all what you need for a pleasant stay- small kitchen with nice round kitchen table-great walk in shower, comfortable double bed, lots of light. We loved also the pool and it's sport's aera. St.Didier is a very nice village with 5 restaurants a small market on Monday and from this village you are just a short trip away from the Luberon and some of the most beautiful villages. Susanna and Dominic gave us lot's of good advices for trips, tours, restaurants, painters galeries etc. we recommand this place for younger and also for older persons.

“A wonderful home from home”

Reviewed 3 Oct 2012

We were just two, and thought we might be lonely in a house that could easliy accommodate three couples, or two with lots of children (and even more, if you take the gite as well). The kitchen is large and well equipped, with room for three or even four to work together in crazy harmony. There is a back patio as well as a large front garden, with plenty of outdoor furniture, so separate groups can get away fom each other when they want to. And then there is the pool area, at the side. But in fact, we enjoyed having it all to ourselves, the large, cool rooms and the outside space, because it is such a friendly, lived in house. You feel that "the others" will be back soon, and you can enjoy the luxury of being alone for a while. The attentiveness of the owners, who telephoned a few times to make sure we were comfortable and had found everything we needed, added to the friendly feeling, So did occasional visits from a local friend of theirs who came to water the garden, and a man who came to clean the pool. Both were willing to chat if we were in the mood, or to do their thing quietly in the background if we didn't. (We chose to chat.) There are neighours quite close at hand, but we saw and heard almost nothing of them - just an occasional waved hand and smile or a call of "bonjour". St-Didier proper is just five minutes away by car, or a pleasant 20 minute walk, and has all the day-to-day necessities -- a fine 'de luxe' restaurant and others more modest but still very good -- a boulangerie, a mini-marche that somehow finds room for everything (including excellent fruit and veg), and a little general store. There's a market on Monday mornings with stalls for everything from straw hats via dried herbs and fresh olives to local cheese and honey. And all this in the very best location in Provence, with the Luberon to the South, the Vaucluse to the North and easy access to Avignon, Arles, Orange and Nimes for those who care for history (or shopping). In fact, Carpentras (just 15 minutes away by car) is all the "town" anyone really needs, and has some interesting history. We had a very happy ten days here, and were really sad to have to leave.

We enjoyed having the both of you so much in our home. You were both so courteous and kind even when we spoke with you before you rented and we knew already that you would be the perfect guests. And you were! It seems that you enjoyed every aspect of the property, the front and back porch with views, the hammocks, the pool area, the tables set under certain trees and so we have created the house and land in every detail. We look forward to having you again as you have expressed the interest to return. Our house and property welcomes you again and again.

“A Fantastic Family Haven”

Reviewed 23 Sep 2012

Our family (7 of us including 5 girls aged 3-15) had a delightful week in the main house. We were made to feel very welcome by Dominic and Susanna on our arrival, and through the week they went out of their way to ensure that all of our needs were met - this included taking us to a local swimming spot which otherwise would have been impossible to find. The main house is spacious - there are 3 very large bedrooms downstairs, and a large bedroom/bathroom upstairs. The house has been recently, and tastefully, renovated and has good quality furnishings. The yard is large, with a number of pleasant dining/lounging and play areas for a large group to spread out in. The pool is recently installed, and a good size. We really enjoyed our time in this house - it is a pleasant walk from the house into St Didier, which is a charming village with good dining options, and close to several other lovely villages including Venasque. Our greatest challenge was to persuade our children that we should leave the pool and go sight-seeing! We look forward to returning when next we can.

It was really great having your whole family at our property. It was wonderful to see the whole property, house and land, being used by all your daughters and the parents as well. While some were in the pool, others were playing badminton while you and your wife were relaxing under the shade of one of the great oaks, having a glass of wine. As you told us also, the way the house is designed, being so open and accessible to the outside and also being mainly on one floor, made it so easy for you to keep an eye on all your girls! It was also very nice to hear that you as a whole family walked from the house to the village almost everyday and really supported the village restaurants and local businesses. You all made a lasting impression upon one of the restaurant owners we know especially with a family of seven coming almost every evening and particularly with five girls. We feel we have really made new friends and look forward to seeing you again in Provence or when we come to Melbourne.

“Challenging owners but house worked well”

Reviewed 29 Aug 2012

There are two houses on the property including a gite and 4 bedroomed house. The gite is new and suits 2 people maximum but is incredibly hot with no shade at all, and no phone or TV. Wifi was being added during our stay in the gite but technical difficulties remained . The main house is in excellent condition, with good amenities and the pool worked well. If the owners are on site then they will be continually interacting with guests as well as gardening and cleaning around you, and borrowing the phone for their own use. The house is cool with some shade and the surrounding trees provide some relief from the heat.

These renters stayed in the apartment for two weeks then moved over to the house for two weeks. They knew fully that we as owners would be here on the property. Please read the real facts and truth of this situation 1. When the first cleaning took place, it was discovered that there was a large scratch on the brand new sink in the bathroom. When we showed it to the renters, they denied that they did it and became outraged and embittered towards us and they stayed this way the whole time. We never accused them but simply showed them this scratch which only they could have done since they were the first and only ones with the new sink. I suppose that is why they write we were “ challenging owners”. After we asked them many times if all was fine and they said yes and they received their full deposit back which we paid to them after they left , they then wrote this falsified review. 2. The apartment had and has wifi and phone and we even put in a stronger transmitter for the man since he was on the computer all day after which they commented,” it works perfectly”. It was advertised no television so they knew it but satellite tv has since been added. 3. The apartment is for two persons as advertised but the renters decided to invite their adult daughter to stay with them. We bought a new air mattress for her and even offered that she stay in the house. They refused our offer and furthermore we did not charge them a penny for her stay. So one can only imagine what it was like for them in the apartment and for us! The renters broke our rules but we did everything to please them. 4. We told them from the first day that we, not our workers, would have to water all the plants and clean the pool daily and we even told them when exactly we would do this so as not to disturb them. Never once did we clean around them or clean when they were in the garden or pool! 5. The apartment indeed has shade and also an iron and bamboo cover and also there are many umbrellas and of course a large swimming pool. The property has over 200 oak trees and the trees with so much shade are one of the great features of this property. But the renters hardly ever sat under the trees or ever used the pool. It was 35 to 40 every day this summer and of course it is very hot and dry in Provence. That is why we have kept the trees and have such a large pool but they need to be used! And plants must be watered and pool cleaned daily or the plants would die and the pool turn green! 6. We told the renters that we would only need to use the phone in the house for long distance calls if there was an emergency and there was ( credit cards stolen). We would never have used it otherwise but they were alerted to the fact but chose to write negatively about even this. 7. We did everything in our power to please these renters as we do with all but once the scratch was pointed out, they really had it in for us. What is an owner to do? Here are the real facts and please read all the other great reviews to know the truth about this property. Also see all the photos and then make up your own mind!
