|Further details indoors|
The farmhouse kitchen is well equipped with a hob, self-cleaning oven, dishwasher, large fridge-freezer, washer and condensing dryer in the laundry room, (which is stacked with ample bedding and towels), welsh dresser, table for 6/8 people and a Godin wood burning stove.
The beamed and stone fireplace gives a great focal point to the dual aspect sitting room and the retention of one bedroom on the ground floor is useful for those who prefer not to use stairs. Of the two first floor bedrooms, one has a king size bed and en suite bathroom with separate shower cubicle. The second first floor bedroom has a larger than standard shower cubicle and glass wash basin.
|Further details outdoors|
The large courtyard will park 3/4 cars easily and offers plenty of room for outdoor living. A large dining table and 6 chairs are provided for outside use, plus four sun beds and cantilevered parasol. A barbecue and charcoal are available, plus two sets of boules for games on the petanque court.
The lawned area is ideal for sunbathing. The property has fields on two sides with views over to the church, and a quiet lane to the front. We regularly see swifts and bats in the early evenings and, because there is little light pollution, star-gazing is magical on clear nights.
Le Gue Poullain is situated in the small village of St Clement and a car is essential. There are two double and one twin bedrooms. There is ample room in either of the two first floor bedrooms or the hall for an additional single bed which is stored as a truckle bed in the ground floor bedroom. In order that you don't have to travel with everything but the kitchen sink with you, high quality bedding and towels are provided and there should be everything any good cook (or otherwise) could want in the kitchen.
The Basse-Normandie region
Basse-Normandie offers a wealth of places to enjoy, including the fabulous UNESCO World Heritage site at Mont St Michel, the Bayeux Tapestry, the D-Day landing beaches and memorial sites, particularly Colleville Cemetery, along with numerous museums, quaint villages and towns. The seaside town of St Malo is well worth seeing, giving ferry access to Guernsey and Jersey. Historic Domfront and Villedieu-les-Poeles which is famous for bell-making, are also recommended.
The area offers a variety of cycling routes, walking, bird-watching, riding, delightful beaches and more. The area is famous for Calvados production and Cidre and there are many places for tastings or "degustations" so look for the signs as you drive around. There are antique shops and depot vente in abundance and, of course, excellent places to eat.
The nearest town to Le Gue Poullain is Mortain - under 10 minutes in the car.
There are a couple of supermarkets and a high street with a range of small food and non-food shops, several bars, cafes and pretty public gardens. There is also an excellent tourist information centre. Outdoor markets are held weekly in each town. Most weekends there will be a car boot sale or "Vide Grenier" in a nearby town where you can find some exceptional bargains. A list is available at the tourist information centre.
