Description from owner

Description

Our house was built in the 16th century and was an Auberge called "Le Cheval Blanc" until the early 20th century when it became a private house. We're proud to be returning the building to its original function and name.

Guest rooms are on the second floor, while most of the first floor is communual. We have a fully equipped kitchen you're welcome to use and a large and rather grand dining room/lounge area.

Our favourite feature is the large, sunny courtyard. It's rare to have such a large outdoor space in the centre of a medieval town and you'll find it a tranquil place to eat or simply relax. The walls are like a history lesson in stone, and it's fascinating trying to figure out how how and why they evolved over the centuries.

Location description from owner

The Occitanie region

St Antonin is a medieval town with buildings dating back 900 years. You can lose yourself in the warren of narrow, car-free streets where you'll find wonderful architecture at every turn. Despite this, the town is so compact that you're never more than a few minutes walk from the centre.
The town has a really nice balance between tourism and rural French life. It's a popular destination, but life still goes on here for the locals much as it has done for centuries. On Sunday one of the best markets in France spills out from the main square into many of the streets, and there are cultural events and festivals to enjoy throughout the summer.

The village recently featured in the 100 Foot Journey Foot Journey (starring Helen Mirren) and is one of 22 villages which has been selected as one of the best in France.

In recent years an arts community has started to thrive, so there are galleries to visit where you can talk to the artists and participate in workshops.
