But even more exciting, we are very fortunate to have a family of resident Pine Martens, Britains second most rarest mammal, they visit the feeding station on each of the veranda's to find their favourite treat of Peanut Butter, Jam or even a raw egg. They are here through out the day but are much more active during the early to late evening.

The nearest pub in walking distant is The Eagle Inn on the Water, a floating Dutch Barge this is seasonal, open from February to end October.

"A memorable holiday"
It was only a short trip to Scotland but you could not ask for a better location and friendly owners.

"Cosy wooden lodge in stunning surroundings but bring your own kitchen utensils!"
The lodge was cosy and had character but a little smaller than expected. Unfortunately the kitchen was poorly equipped making it a bit of a challenge to cook a meal from scratch. The lack of sharp knives in particular was tricky, had to end up using a pocket knife for cutting vegetables and meat. Definitely worth bringing your own set if you like cooking.. And also some more teaspoons, we had two between the four of us! The location was stunning and good to explore different areas from - spent quite a bit of time walking at Fort Augustus, Invergarry, and Fort William and also made day trips to Skye (1..5hrs) and the Black Isle (1.15 hrs). The small single track road that leads from the main road A82 to the lodge was a bit of a pothole challenge. Especially the last stretch is very bumpy (forest track) and takes a good 10 mins to get to the main road (2.5 miles). The pictures look as if you are directly at the water but the lodge is actually much higher up. A little path leads down to a set of steep stairs that take you to the water. There is no path, lots of rocks to walk over if you fancy a 'stroll' by the water. As it's a wooden lodge it's also worth mentioning that the walls aren't very sound proof and you can hear every step and almost every word anyone is saying anywhere in the lodge. Overall it was a lovely holiday, as the location was great for walking and the place had a cosy feel. However, the value for money wasn't quite right for us. It was a lot more basic than expected.
Dear Guests, Thank you for writing such an informative review of you stay here with us in Rowan Lodge. However I feel it is only fair that I verify some of the comments made with reference to your stay. I personally handled your booking with us from the enquiry stage through to your departure. I met you on your arrival, escorted you to your lodge, showed you how everything worked and also told you about some of the little gems that we are so fortunate to have on our door step. During this introduction I also explained that if you needed any help at any time during you stay not to hesitate to contact me by either coming to my house as we live here on site or by mobile. On your first day you called to request a weather report, this was done within minutes. You also requested a large casserole dish even though you already had two in the lodge, this was supplied for the duration of you stay. Now I think I know where I went wrong.... On your second day you also requested the "Free Use" of our little rowing boat, we could not respond to this request straight away as we were in Inverness for an appointment and was not able to issue you with the Health & Safety Life Jackets and Disclaimer Brief. You did not ask again and I wondered why, now I think I understand? The kitchen in Rowan Lodge is very well equipped and has a large wooding Knife Block and is also supplied with a small Knife Sharpener. Even more confusing is why was it so hard to aske us to sharpen them for you. We also complete a full inventory on each departure so where the 2 teaspoons between 4 comes from I have no idea, again why did you not ask us for more? I really do not understand why on the morning of your departure your parents shook hands with Ian and Thanked him for a "Wonderful Stay" Even more confusing is as you drove by on your exit, laughing and waving whilst shouting we will be back! We pride ourselves in trying to ensure that all of our guests enjoy their stay here with us and the majority of our past guests would agree that we do this and more, Kind Regards Ian & Claire

"Heaven is here!!!"
To start with we would like to say a BIG thank you to Claire and Ian for looking after us so well! You two are the best hosts ever and the most wonderful people! We enjoyed our stay at the Great Glen cottages especially my parents who had come from India for a visit and our 15 months old daughter. In my parents' words "This place feels like Heaven!" If you love nature and some peace and quiet then this place is for you. Our daughter loved watching the birds from the living room, her favourite spot;)) and enjoyed exploring around the cottage, tapping her feet on the wooden floor:)) The location is perfect as a base for exploring the highlands and to relax amidst natural beauty! And the icing on the cake are the wonderful hosts! We have already been back to say hello to them and to get our daughter's favourite ball back!!!! We wish you both lots of good luck for the future and KUDOS for being such lovely hosts. Hope to see u again soon! N.B. Sorry for the late review!!
Thank you so very much for such a Wonderful Rewarding Review. It was a pleasure having you to stay with us and even more so to be able to meet both of your parents and family when you popped by to pick up the ball for your little daughter, all the way from Edinburgh! We would be delighted to see you and your family again!

"Dream place to stay"
Situated in a picturesque location on the shores of loch lochy. No need to go out for sight seeing, you can simply sit outside your lodge and observe the changing scenery throughout the day. You can even see the mirror image of the trees, mountains and clouds in the lake. Claire and Ian are perfect hosts and are very helping. Cottages are comfortable and fully equipped. If given a chance, I would definitely like to go back and stay here.
Thank you so very much for taking the time to write such a lovely review. We are so pleased that you and your family enjoyed your stay in Rowan Lodge, especially the amazing ever changing scenery that never ceases to amaze us! Many of our guests return time after time, it would be wonderful to welcome you to stay sometime in the future!

"Great doesn't do it justice"
From booking the stay to leaving on the final day of our holiday - the service received from Claire and Ian was second to none. Having stayed in Bramble Lodge two years ago I contacted Claire to book this again, as this was not available Claire suggested we use the larger Rowan Lodge for the same price. The Location, The view and the Lodges themselves are all excellent. The daily visit of the Pine Martins (encouraged by bread and marmalade) is something that never fails to raise a smile. The thought that Claire and Ian have put into the information supplied to guests in the folders the put in the lodges is well worth reading and is rewarded many times over - having now been to see the dolphins at fortrose and the deer and other wildlife on the road to nowhere on a couple of occasions based on their recommendation. The location is ideal for exploring, whether its people like me fascinated by canals, locks, swing bridges, viaducts etc (fort augustus, banavie, garlochy, culloden, glenfinnan) or WW11 history (Cromarty, Arisaig) Older History (Culloden, Glencoe) Film History (Morar - Local Hero, Glenfinnan Viaduct -Harry Potter),.the area has it all. Just looking for places that are nice to look at and places to stretch your legs (Loch Morar, Arisaig, Falls of Foyer). The only criticism I have is that there is too much to do and not enough time, good enough reason to go back. I haven't even mentioned Eilean Donan castle (on the Skye Road) or island hopping on the ferries or Oban, Fort William and many other places. This is the perfect spot fro exploring and then on an evening the perfect place to relax - I can't recommend this place highly enough.
Many, Many Thanks for taking the time to write such a wonderful and amazing review! With endless idea's for day's out within easy commuting distance, even some I have yet to visit myself! It was a sheer pleasure seeing you both return for a second time and it goes without saying we would love to welcome you back sometime in the future!
