Location description from owner

The East Anglia region

North Norfolk is a special place and a wonderful place to explore on holiday. So many visitors who come here, fall in love with the coast and countryside, the friendliness and the pace of life that they, like me, return here to live. We have sandy beaches, unique salt marshes, waterways, rolling countryside with panoramic views.

Coach Cottage and Southrepps is perfectly situated to take advantage of all the attractions to the West and those, lesser known, to the East, The delightful villages, magnificent churches and seaside offer a wealth of attractions, events and activities - something for everyone.

Southrepps

Southrepps, being in the east of the UK is sheltered from the Atlantic and has one of the lowest rainfalls in the country. Being a few km / 3 miles inland from the East Anglian coast, it is also sheltered from the colder north and east winds. Only 4 miles from the coastal village of Mundesley (voted in 2016 best Blue Flag Beach in Great Britain) or 5 miles from the town of Cromer with its Victorian Pier, Coach Cottage offers easy access to the many heavenly sandy beaches.

Walking around Southrepps, one can see the rural heritage. The countryside has a mix of small woods and hedgerows, Outside the house is a rookery and the sound and sight of birds is part of the joy of North Norfolk. In the nearby Southrepps Common, a site of scientific interest and nature reserve, there is a large variety of nesting birds such as Reed Warblers, Reed Bunting, and Sedge Warbler. The woodland areas are habitat of such birds as Greater Spotted Woodpecker, Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Barn Owl and Tawny Owl.

The past wealth of the village of Southrepps is evident in the size and majesty of St James Church that dominants the sky and is visible from the Lounge and garden. In August, Southrepps hosts its celebrated music festival and there are many other concerts at other times of the year in the church or other local churches, such as Trunch & Mundesley.

Life in the Southrepps and the nearby villages is colourful. Throughout the year there are markets, festivals and events to enjoy. The local Vernon Arms pub hosts real ale events. The nearby towns of Cromer, North Walsham and Sheringham have theatres and cinemas. The Norfolk Broads offer fun on the water, hiring a day boat taking a picnic hamper is a popular activity. Whilst the magnificent city of Norwich (22 miles away) with its two cathedrals offers everything one can ask for, all in a very compact space.

“Perfect for our family get together”

Reviewed 7 Feb 2017

Coach Cottage was just what we were looking for. Located in a quiet village near a very good locals pub and a shop. The property is well maintained and equipped. Underfloor heating is a real treat. There were so many thoughtful touches, milk bread, cake, wine, too many to list. Kathryn was very helpful both before and during our stay.

Owner's reply: So glad to hear that the cottage provided a good base for your family reunion, and that the underfloor heating and wood burning stove made it warm and cosy - we do seem to be having rather a chilly February! Thank you for posting - reviews help us stay in tune with guest's needs.

“Awesome off the Beaten Track Cottage”

Reviewed 18 Sep 2016

Not your regular choice of location! Pretty much hidden away! What a surprise to arrive at such an idyllic location in a quiet cul de sac near to a fabulous church ( The second highest tower in Norfolk) church bells on a Friday (practice) and Sunday. A great local pub with food, the Vernon Arms, within walking distance. I have to mention the skies, with little light pollution the skies are spectacular and if you are lucky you could get a glimpse of the northern lights. The owner Kathryn is so proud of her cottage she will meet you on arrival and you will find some lovely embellishments whilst you settle in. In the words of Craig Revell-Horwood "Fab-U-Lou's" Kathryn if you ever sell up please give me 1st refusal!!

Owner's reply: What a charming review, and your "Strictly" reference made me chuckle. Thank you. I am very pleased you enjoyed your stay and thank you for teaching me about St James Church. I didn't realise it was the second highest tower in Norfolk. It is certainly most impressive - no wonder the Southrepps Music Festival is so popular. Have passed on your comments to The Vernon Arms who are very pleased. Will let you know should I sell!! Meanwhile, I hope you do return!

“Lovely Weekend”

Reviewed 19 Apr 2016

A very comfortable cottage with everything you need for a lovely stay. Lots of added extras, the marmalade was lovely! Our dogs loved it, the garden was safe for them. Lots of info on where to go and what to do, just wish we had longer to do more!

Owner's reply: Am delighted you and your "best friends" enjoyed Coach Cottage and exploring our lesser known (but equally beautiful) part of the Norfolk coastline. Thank you for posting a review especially with the compliment about my home made marmalade; always good to learn our guests were happy. Should you ever return to North Norfolk, I hope you consider Coach Cottage for your stay. Once again, thank you.

“Perfect for all - families, elderly people, dogs, people with mobility problems”

Reviewed 17 Apr 2016

I visited Coach Cottage with my elderly parents, both 85 and with limited mobility. It was perfect for their needs in every way, no stairs, beds the right height and is beautifully decorated and maintained. As a dog owner I also noticed lots of thoughtful touches to make it easy to bring your dog. On arrival Kathryn had provided a most thoughtful welcome package with home made marmalade, bread and eggs, plus wine. My mum wrote "Excellent accommodation at Coach Cottage, the best self catering we have ever had. It’s perfect, could not be improved upon. The disabled facilities and equipment so well researched. Will certainly recommend to anyone coming to this area." in the guest book which sums up our visit.

Owner's reply: Thank you for taking the time to write such a kind review. We do indeed endeavour to provide a "home from home" as we believe it is important that when you are staying in a holiday cottage you can concentrate on being on holiday and not be stressed by things you wish the accommodation had. Furthermore, I know from personal experience, that when travelling with relatives with mobility problems or with pets, staying in accommodation that truly caters for these needs makes the icing on the holiday cake. We do hope you will consider staying at Coach Cottage again should you venture to North Norfolk again.

“The best cottage we have ever rented”

Reviewed 25 Jan 2016

Without doubt the best cottage we have ever rented and that includes National Trust properties. The very high standards of furniture and fittings with every appliance one could possibly want or need makes this cottage outstanding. Kathryn left us and our dog a great welcome pack which was very much appreciated and without intruding in anyway made certain we needed for nothing. The village is lovely and the Vernon Arms is a great traditional pub with a roaring fire, good food and not in the slightest pretentious. Dogs are made welcome, so as long as you have an animal that gets on with other dogs you can relax and enjoy a meal or just have a pint at the bar. All in all the best UK winter break we have had in a very long time.

Owner's reply: Thank you for taking the time to post such a delightful review - you quite made my day. We strive to ensure our guests are happy with their stay at Coach Cottage and feedback really helps us know how we are doing. We are so lucky having such a pleasant traditional pub a stone's throw from the cottage. Should you return to North Norfolk I do hope you will consider staying with us again, not least as the views of return guests are so valuable in maintaining high standards all year round.

“Home from Home”

Reviewed 20 Nov 2015

“Our third visit to what we consider our second home. Once again welcome packs and Billy’s treats went down a treat. Bracing walks along Cromer, Mundesley and Overstrand beaches. Visit to seal colony at Horsey a great experience even though we got soaking wet. Several fires enjoyed as well as meals with friends and family. Excellent meals at Vernon Arms. As ever Kathryn is a superb hostess. Nice to see the place developing and properties restored. Beer glasses and gravy boat christened. Only the summer season left now to complete our visits – we will be back to complete this, have no worries. North Norfolk and its beaches are our favourite destination.”

Owner's reply: Once again, thank you for choosing to return to Coach Cottage and also for taking the trouble to post a review. Whilst the weather may not have been particularly mild, warm or sunny November is one of the best times to see the seals on Horsey beach. We are so very lucky to have so many wonderful sights (natural & man made) so close by. I am delighted you enjoyed so many of them. Until next time, best wishes.

“Home From Home”

Reviewed 6 Nov 2015

We just loved it. The attention to detail, warm friendly and personal welcome. Everything we needed was provided. Time flew by and all too soon had to leave. A lovely area to explore or just light the woodburmner, close the doors and open the courtesy bottle of wine, (with the kids tucked up in bed - heaven and now TV films to enjy for free as well!!)

Owner's reply: Am delighted you "loved" Coach Cottage and appreciated the efforts we go to so our guests have a enjoyable "home from home" stay. Thank you for taking the trouble to give feedback on TripAdvisor and to us - it really does help ensure we maintain an approach our guests appreciate. I do hope you return.

“A perfect holiday home, a true home from home”

Reviewed 30 Aug 2015

“A lovely holiday home, a real home from home. Everything you could possibly want / need is provided, such attention to detail is thought of. Mundesley beach is great, along with skate park which kids loved as we brought scooters with us. Small Arcade too. We visited Davenports Magic show, great for all ages, as well as BeWilderwood. Cromer pier – great for crabbing. Muckleburgh military collection was enjoyed by the boys. A great time had by all. Thank you.”

Owner's reply: I am delighted that you found Coach Cottage a "perfect holiday home". We make every effort to ensure our guests feel at home. Southrepps is well located for so many of our amazing local activities - Muckleburgh, BeWilderwood, Mundesley beach / skate park - I do hope you return to explore the many others wonderful places North Norfolk has to offer. And when you do visit North Norfolk again, I do hope you consider staying at Coach Cottage, we'd love to have you back. Thank you for posting a review.

“A wonderful place to stay”

Reviewed 2 Jun 2015

I can't recommend Coach Cottage highly enough. Everything you could need (and more) was there. The owner is very helpful and has also provided lots of information about places to visit, eat, etc. One of our party was disabled and once again the facilities provided were exactly what was needed. A lovely village setting and very relaxing. We were also able to take our dog and found dog bowls and towels had been provided. The welcome pack was excellent - and included a little something for our dog!

Owner's reply: Thank you for your kind review of Coach Cottage. I am delighted that you found the cottage a wonderful place to stay and that the mobility equipment in the cottage proved its worth, enabling your whole party to enjoy Coach Cottage and the lovely village of Southrepps. As dog lovers we know how good it is to be able to go away with your "best friend". Southrepps, and North Norfolk as a whole, is a great place to holiday with a dog - so many dog friendly cafes, hotels, pubs especially in the villages and wonderful beach and rural walks. Should you ever venture this way again, we'd be very pleased to welcome you again. Once again, thank you for coming to Coach Cottage.

“Coach Cottage is friendly and welcoming with a high standard of accommodation.”

Reviewed 20 Apr 2015

“We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Coach Cottage this week. Kathryn has been so helpful and friendly and we felt very welcomed from the moment we arrived. The cottage’s facilities have been excellent – lots of space for our party of 5 adults and one child of 12 years. Southrepps is a lovely friendly village. We enjoyed a great meal at the Vernon Arms, and the local walks have been beautiful. We would have no hesitation in recommending Coach Cottage to friends and we may be back at some time in the future ourselves.”

Owner's reply: Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your stay at Coach Cottage, Southrepps. I am very pleased that the cottage and facilities in the village were to your liking; we are so lucky to have such a great family / dog friendly pub a short walk away. Should you venture this way again, we would be delighted to have you to stay.
