La Grange is a lovely converted barn which was converted and renovated by the owners about 4 years ago. The original parts of the buildings date back to the 18th century and although they have been carefully brought into the 21st century, period features such as exposed beams and inglenook fireplaces mean that guests are still able to appreciate the character of what was once part of a working French farm.

Location description from owner

The Basse-Normandie region

Fishing
Normandy is a land renowned for its green landscapes, its horses, cider and cheeses with one added rare asset - its rivers. Normandy is at present one of the best regions in France to fish for salmon, and is undisputedly the best region for sea-trout. Its rivers contain the famous brown trout, the growth rate of which is one of the fastest in France. The lakes, "marsh lands" and other rivers in Normandy all tend to have good quantities of pike and other carnivorous fish.

Golf Courses
Normandy is blessed with the geography and climate of a golfer's paradise. Of 37 diverse courses which are open year round, 23 have 18 holes or more.

Castles
France possesses a splendid array of castles, Renaissance châteaux and mansions, some of the best examples of which can be found in Normandy, ranging from the forbidding medieval fortress to the hospitable half-timbered country residence with its thatched roof.

Lac de la Dathée
Set in the open countryside 4 miles South of Vire, the beautiful Lake Dathée is circled by footpaths enabling peaceful walks (it takes about an hour and a half to walk around the entire lake), and for the more adventurous kayaks, canoes and sailing boats can be hired. There is also a golf course next to the lake, it is currently a 9-hole course but is undergoing extensive upgrading and will be open in 2007 as an 18-hole course.

D-Day Beaches
Le Memorial de Caen is a museum dedicated to the history of the 20th Century. The Museum runs guided and self-guided tours of the D-Day beaches, for full information visit

Bungy Jumping & Adventure Park

Located on the historic viaduct built by Gustave Eiffel, 61 meters over the Souleuvre River, A.J. Hackett Bungy offers you a complete and one of a kind experience. www.ajhackett.fr

Festy Land
This is one that the kids will love! Vikings and Pirates galore and all the geography and history of Normandy blend together in the biggest regional amusement park. All in all there are more than 30 attractions for all the family and a trip to Festyland promises an unforgettable day.

Sourdeval

Sourdeval (5 minute drive) is the closest town to Normandy Grange and can be reached by car in 5 minutes. The town has several bars and restaurants and is an ideal place to nip out to for those forgotten supplies.

Vire (15 minute drive) is definitely worth a visit, especially for the food – the town is best known for its andouille sausages and for the salmon and trout caught fresh from the river Vire - there are lots of restaurants and bars to choose from. You can stock up on food for the week at the market at Martilly on Sunday mornings, and peruse the delicious fare of the charcuteries, boulangeries and pattiseries that line the streets of this typically French market town. There are lots of activities to take part in the area surrounding Vire, including horse riding, tennis, mountain biking, kayaking, swimming, fishing, golf and many more, contact details for these activities and more information about the area can be found at www.vire-tourisme.com

Saint Server (20 minutes drive)
Within 2 miles of Vire is the small town of St Sever which has a good Saturday Market and a wealth of fetes throughout the year, just next to the town is a magnificent forest with woodland walks and abundant wildlife.

Mont St Michel (40 minutes drive)
The monastery island of Le Mont St Michel is famous worldwide and is an amazing place to visit. There are many things to see and to do. The main street is filled with quaint shops, the museums full of history, and the walk around the ramparts with views out over the sands of the bay is exhilarating!
