Location description from owner

The Campania region

AMALFI COASTThe wild and rocky Amalfi coast is full of sharp stones and pinnacles and declines towards the sea. Using these stones and pinnacles, the hand of man has for centuries obtained, the terracing upon which the people of Amalfi lie (they look like they hang onto the cliffs) along with a series of terraces with olive, citrus and vine trees. The trip from Positano to Amalfi offers vast panoramas. One of the most characteristic fjords found along the Amalfi Coast is the Vallone di Praia, a fjord that can be descended by following a path formed by rock and arriving at a gracious little beach with a limpid and not yet contaminated sea.

Sorrento

The Villa's location is an excellent starting point for trips to the entire Amalfi coast, Positano, Sorrento peninsula, Capri and Pompei.AMALFI COASTThe wild and rocky Amalfi coast is full of sharp stones and pinnacles and declines towards the sea. One of the most characteristic fjords found along the Amalfi Coast is the Vallone di Praia, a fjord that can be descended by following a path formed by rock and arriving at a gracious little beach with a limpid and not yet contaminated sea.POSITANOThe splendid gorge in which Positano is found, can be reached from the 'Nastro Azzurro' (main road 163). On the road trip, one can admire beautiful landscape. The roads are very windy with tight curves that follow the course of the mountain and wedge into the rocks. Along the last stretch you come to a panoramic viewpoint from which you can see the picturesque town. Positano consists of a group of white, pink and orange houses with spherical caps that decline towards the sea, connected by alleys and narrow staircases.CAPRIThis is one of the most famous pearls of the Tyranean Sea. It was once the residence of roman emperors including Tiberio and Augusto. Today, the so-called 'piazzetta' is a meeting place for artisans and famous people from all over the world. From the top of Mount Solaro one can see the whole island including its rocks that stretch out and the delightful vegetation that declines towards the deep blue sea.SORRENTOSorrento is a town with less than 18,000 inhabitants and is found in a magnificent geographical and environmental location on a tuff terrace that falls upon the coast with rocky slopes. It is a very pleasant place with natural landscape and enriched by its prosperous citrus cultures, by the vast panorama of the Gulf of Naples , the Vesuvio and the Campi Flegrei and the Flegrei islands, the extraordinary seafaring transparencies and an exceptionally clear blue sky. All of the above make the city one of the sanctuaries of international tourism.POMPEIIPompeii is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world. Every year millions of visitors come to see the spectacular ruins of this ancient Roman town destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in A.D. 79. Excavation work only began in the XVIII century but since then has gradually brought to light the splendours of an ancient civilization, including magnificent frescoed villas and an imposing amphitheatre.HERCULANEUMHerculaneum, said to have been founded by Hercules, is a remarkably well-preserved Roman town. Built some time between 80 and 70 B.C., it was destroyed by the eruption of Vesuvius in A.D. 79. Unlike Pompeii, however, Herculaneum was not buried by lava and lapilli (burning fragments of pumice stone), but was submerged by thick mud which then solidified into soft tufa rock, thus preserving the many frescoes and artefacts you can still admire today. The town was discovered in 1709 and excavation work since has brought to light sumptuous villas, baths, theatres and even a villa thought to have belonged to the father-in-law of Julius Caesar.VESUVIUSMt Vesuvius is one of Naples' most well-known landmarks, and one of the largest active volcanoes in the world. The mighty mountain standing forebodingly over the city and the bay is accessible by bus up to a height of 1,000 m. From there on the visit continues on foot with licensed guides to the edge of the crater.PAESTUMPaestum is one of the most important archaeological sites in Italy. The Greek city of Poseidonia was founded here in the VII century B.C. and developed into a rich and flourishing centre of trade. You can visit the Temple of Poseidon, the Temple of Ceres, the so-called Basilica dating from the VI century B.C. (in actual fact a temple dedicated to the goddess Hera, the main divinity of Poseidonia), and the small museum housing the famous Tomb of the Diver.
