The Balearic Islands region

Menorca is "The jewel of the Mediterranean islands " having more beaches than Majorca and Ibiza combined. Son Bou is the longest (2km). About a 2 hour flight from most UK airports the island is a quality destination unspoilt by over-development so perfect for family holidays.

Owing to Menorca's natural beauty and cultural heritage where society has accepted an economic development compatible with the conservation of nature, UNESCO has declared the island a Biosphere Reserve, one of 411 places on the planet.

Menorca has a population of approximately 88,000. Its highest point, called El Toro or Monte Toro, is 358 m/1174 ft above sea level. The island is about 30 miles (48.7km) long and varies in width from12 miles(19.5 km) to 8miles (13km).

Menorca enjoys a classic Mediterranean climate, characterised by mild winters and hot (though not excessive!) summers with up to 11 hours of sunshine per day.Rainfall in Menorca varies widely, with virtually none during the summer and a lot in winter. The result is a verdant green landscape throughout all but the hottest periods, whilst the island still sees over 300 days of sunshine per year.

There are many places to visit from the major towns of Mahon and Ciutadella to the quaint fishing villages of Fornells and Es Grau, splendid views from Monte Toro and sites of historic interest.

The capital Mahon has one of the largest natural harbours in the world (4.5km long ) Open air markets selling clothes , arts and crafts travel around the towns and villages in the morning from Monday to Saturday.

The island therefore offers a wonderful holiday destination catering for most tastes
