Description

Stay in a recently converted "grand designs" house, perfect for an extended family or group of friends to celebrate or holiday together. Eighteen can dine together in a fabulous double height room with bi-fold doors leading directly onto the garden and with views over the countryside. The lounge has a wood burner and superb surround sound Smart TV/audio system, then to keep everyone entertained there is the glass fronted games room with pool table and table football. Outside in your private garden enjoy your own hot tub(all year) and large sauna (all year), table tennis and a football field. Relax on your private terrace at the shared heated pool (May to Sept) or play croquet on the lawn (April to Oct). Bedrooms are all large and ensuite and can be configured to suit almost any combination of doubles and singles. Two bedrooms are in the smaller detached Spring Barn a stones throw away sharing access to a shower room with their own lounge. If the house is booked for 18 then this will include an extra barn (The Cider Barn) with own bedroom, and open plan lounge, kitchen diner, so giving 7 bedrooms in total. The house is completely private with its own entrance, lots of parking and fields on two sides. If you would like we can help you tailor your celebration or holiday with a chef, catering and meals in local pubs as well as activities on-site such as archery, axe throwing and pampering or off site such as cider tasting, golf and clay pigeon shooting. Google "Tobooka" to see whats on offer . We also offer a full service package with towels, robes, daily housekeeping, welcome groceries and end of let tidy up. Just ask for details.The main house has three reception rooms plus a kitchen and utility room, every room leads out into the garden with wraparound patios and paths and the house is incredibly light due to the double height glass and bi-fold or French doors. All rooms are open plan to create a really sociable environment. The kitchen is fully equipped for a large group with a range cooker, two dishwashers, an extra oven and microwave, its granite worktops and maple inlaid units make cooking a delight, chat to friends in the dining room or snuggle around the wood burner. All four bedrooms in the main house are ensuite (the main bathroom interconnects with two bedrooms), with high quality mattresses you will have a great nights sleep and be refreshed in the morning with a power or rain shower or relax in the double ended bath. There are another two bedrooms and shower room in the smaller barn which also has its own sitting area for a quiet coffee and croissant.The bedrooms can be configured in a variety of ways to suit almost any group, with some on the ground floor making access very easy. Bedroom one is a King with ensuite shower room and extra daybed (sleeps 3 max), bedroom two has a SuperKing zip and link bed plus a daybed (sleeps 3 max) with a large ensuite shower room, bedroom three has a Superking zip and link bed and 2 daybeds (sleeps 4 max) and shares a bathroom (rain shower and double ended bath) with bedroom four upstairs which also has a Superking zip and link bed and day bed (sleeps max 3). The smaller barn has a Super King zip and link and a single (sleeps 3 max) and a double bedroom (sleeps 2).

There are buses to local towns such as Taunton, Street, Wells and Yeovil. You can walk to the local village with shop and pub and there are lots of footpaths from the house.

We welcome you when you arrive and are always available if you need us. But if you don't need us then you won't see us. New year stay with the whole family fabulous house with great facilities hot tub sauna games room with pool table and football table kept the grandchildren amused all weekend I can’t recommend this place enough it has that extra special feeling xx

We stayed at Upton Bourne Lodge for my 50th. What a perfect choice for a large family gathering. The kids loved the hot tub and field to run around in, and the adults loved the big dining table, comfortable beds and well stocked kitchen.

The Somerton location is perfect, with lots of visitor attraction within easy reach. The accommodation was excellent for our large family, 8 adults and four children the eldest being 5 years old. There was plenty of room for us, and with the hot tub and sauna for the adults and pool and games there was always something to keep everyone occupied. With plenty of pubs, restaurants and take-aways in the local area we only cooked 2 meals. We visited the Haynes International Motor Museum, Minehead on the West Somerset Railway, Weston Super Mare, Glastonbury, Wells, Wookey Hole and Cheddar. A wonderful holiday made even better by the excellent accommodation and facilities.

We stayed 8 months ago, I am so sorry it has taken so long to write this review but better late than never! I hired this house for my 50th birthday weekend with 10 friends and incorporated Yoga into my weekend. We bought our own Yoga instructor and we had the best time. The house had literally all you need for a comfortable stay and the facilities are excellent. The was so much space but at the same time it was cosy and warm. the bedrooms were all of a high standard and very clean. We thoroughly recommend this place and would book again if coming to the area. Communication with the owner Gill was also excellent at all times.

Amazing time had at the lodge great space for 14 of us, dining area great for big evening meals, the heated pool hot tub and sauna were perfect and used a lot. Pretty cottage garden and a great field for ball games, lovely village with lovely pubs the Devonshire arm and a short drive is the halfway house both excellent. The owners were very helpful if you needed anything.

We had an amazing experience staying at Upton Bourn Lodge and Spring Barn. The booking was easy and hassle free, the directions and checking in procedure was also very easy and well structured. We were met by one of the staff/caretakers who helped us to settle in and answered all of our questions. The properties themselves were outstanding in all areas; cleanliness, modern, functional, kitchen equipment, audio visual equipment, outside facilities, etc. I cant find any reason to make anything other than statements of complete satisfaction. The weather was very stormy the entire time although the properties and quality of furnishings and fittings more than made up for our slightly dampened spirits - there were amply games and children s toys to keep them occupied indoors. The only negative perhaps would be that we had to bring our own towels and due to the fact most of our extended family flew from various locations we had to buy towels. In summary, this is a perfect venue for an extended family reunion or a quiet relaxing holiday, whichever your looking for. We'll definitely be back. Thanks Gill and Simon!

I hosted a large number of folks who regular meet with each other at a number of venues. Upon Bourn Lodge met all of our requirements with large open areas and a highly configurable room setup. Wifi provided and an excellent TV system in the main room. I'd suggest only using the wood burner in the living room if its very cold as that thing kicks out some serious heat. Multiple ovens, double large fridges and a freezer ensure you've enough space for everything. Local supermarket delivered to the door. There is also a huge supply of plates, pans, utensils etc. I would recommend you bring sharp knives if carving. Excellent recycling from the local council, so everything is sorted out. Useful when your group consumes a number of bottles and tins. The Lodge isn't isolated although it does have access to fields and its own hot tub and sauna, all put to good use over the weekend. If you wanted total isolation this isn't it. The owner provided a good walk around and tour on arrival, the property is in good condition. A welcome cake was a nice touch. Hot water and heating were amazing. A booklet of hints, tips, local attractions is provided and useful. The property provides no towels, if you're organising the event I suggest bringing some had towels along for the various bathrooms. I am looking to book the property again in the future.

We stayed at this property for a long weekend. The owner had provided us with very helpful information before we arrived and as a result we managed to book a meal at a local pub. There were 11 in our group ranging in ages from 12yrs to 72yrs. We ate at the lime kiln inn on Saturday evening and had a fabulous meal. Very generous portions and attentive staff. The house was clean and well equipped although we did have to take our own bath towels and hand towels which I think for the price we paid for the weekend these should be included. Some of the downstairs bedrooms were quite chilly and we needed to keep the heating on to take the chill off. The hot tub and sauna were a nice touch. Wifi was very poor and found we could only get a signal in the dining area, although we did have a lot of devices. Would have been nice to have sky tv or sky sports. Beds were comfy and plenty of storage. Hot water was fine all weekend. Walked to the local village and visited cheddar gorge and Clarks shopping village during our stay. Both worth a visit. Used the local Indian and Chinese takeaways as well neither delivered but food was tasty and reasonable. Owner Gill was very helpful and also made us a lovely fruit fake which was appreciated. Plenty of room to spread out in the lounge and was nice to all be able to sit together for meals.

To celebrate a 50th birthday, 7 of us stayed at Upton Bourn Lodge because of the wealth of facilities there (sauna, hot tub, pool table, table football, log burner, large TV with blue ray and surround sound, free WiFi, swimming pool in the summer). The lodge is modern and bright, and has wonderfully large, open communal areas and plenty of bedrooms with the Spring Barn available to us as well. There are ground floor amenities and bedrooms for anyone with limited mobility, but we're still a fairly sprightly bunch and made good use of the outdoor areas, as it has been a mild January, although we stayed on site rather than explore the area because of the early, dark nights and occasional rain. There are plenty of different board games in the lounge, to help keep younger generations occupied and enjoy shared family time, and there are multiple fridges and cookers if you need to cater for large parties. A home made fruit cake and fully laid out tea tray greeted us, which was a lovely, personal touch, although I would recommend you heed the advice and bring towels! ( 2 of our party didn't, so the washing machine came in handy and the spirit of sharing won through) Upton Bourn Lodge is an excellent venue, in a lovely setting and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a great place to stay with a large group.

Upton Bourn Lodge was a lovely place to stay. Our group of 12 had a really great long weekend away. Perfect for relaxing in the colder months! Gill was so kind and helpful when we had some trouble adjusting the radiators. Highly recommended and we hope to come again.
