Further details outdoors:

Lower Mill Estate has two tennis courts, play areas, trampolines and with seven lakes there are lots of perfect opportunities for bird-watching, fishing, boating and numerous walking and cycling trails throughout the nature reserve, many of which are fine for a sturdy baby buggy.

The estate has a speed limit of 10mph and pedestrians have priority so it's the ideal place for children to roam freely on their bikes. Many comment that Lower Mill often feels like a time warp back to a lost world, in which children could play safely outside all day and temporarily forget computer games were ever invented.

Just two minutes walk from the house, guests have inclusive access to the £6 million ArtSpa featuring a slate-lined 20m indoor pool, heated slate-lined 10m outdoor pool, outdoor plunge eco pool, steam room, sauna, gym and treatment rooms where you can pre-book indulgent massages and pampering sessions to sooth away the stress.

Enjoy a coffee and croissant at the onsite cafe or stock up on last minute provisions in the shop with locally-sourced meat and vegetables. You can also order fresh bread or newspapers for collection in the mornings. Next to the spa is new Ballihoo restaurant which is exclusively for the use of guests at Lower Mill Estate and offers a comprehensive breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and takeaway menu using the finest and freshest local produce.

Located in the heart of the Cotswold Water Park there are many other activities for visitors to enjoy nearby whilst on holiday - including water-skiing, wake boarding, paint-balling, sailing, horse riding, cycling, fishing, shooting and golf. Bicycles and kayaks are available to hire locally. There's even a beach and lake for paddling at the nearby country park, just 10 minutes walk from the house. Historic Cirencester is 5 miles away and if you fancy eating out locally, there is a local pub with a good menu and real ales only 20 minutes easy walk, with several others within a short drive.

Please note that with the close proximity to open water throughout Lower Mill, young children should not be allowed to play unsupervised.

“A wonderful place to stay with a group of friends and family of all ages”

Reviewed 30 Dec 2013

We spent a week in Trout Lodge over Christmas. It was a lovely, spacious lodge, with the double height ceiling in the living space a great feature making the place feel even larger. The owners have taken a great care with the small details, like children's plates, games, DVDs, a Christmas tree with decorations and little touches like dishwasher tablets that are often not provided. The bunk beds are large enough, even for adults, and the bunk room on same floor as the main living area is far enough away from the lounge areas to not be interrupted by noise. The facilities in the spa are great and it is very near by (1 minute walk). Only negative would be that the fridge is small for large groups, but then we did have Christmas dinner to deal with..... Very happy to recommend this to anyone, winter or summer.

Thank you for your kind review. We are very pleased you enjoyed your stay at Trout Lodge and hope you will visit us again soon.
