Description from owner

On Britain's first private nature reserve is this cosy retreat. Cross the stone bridge over the Thames, through the double gates and you are in Mill Village on the Lower Mill Estate, a cluster of Cotswold stone cottages.

This safe, gated nature reserve means wildlife on the doorstep. The 500 acre reserve, with seven lakes and three rivers, has become a haven for fish, otters, European beavers and wintering fowl. There is a small shop, an outdoor heated pool (seasonal), tennis court, sauna, trampoline and children's play area, plus the opportunity to fish, cycle or take a walk around the lakes and rivers (including the Thames) on the Estate. A bird and wildlife lover's delight.

A lovely old pub, serving good food with a great atmosphere, a roaring log fire in the winter months and pretty garden for al fresco dining in the summer, is just a 10 minute stroll through the village.

Fairhazel Cottage has two bedrooms and two en suites, a sunny garden (unfenced stream/ pond)

Explore the quintessentially English honey-coloured villages that punctuate the Cotswolds landscape - Broadway, Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water, to name but a few. Explore their pretty streets, brimming with delightful shops selling antiques, gifts and other quality goods, along with fine dining restaurants, traditional pubs and olde-worlde tea shops. There are some splendid towns and cities too such as Oxford, Bath and Cheltenham.

Must-see places include Westonbirt Arboreteum, the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust, Hidcote Manor and Gardens, Berkeley Castle and Malmesbury Abbey. Family-friendly options include Cotswold Farm Park, the 'Home of Rare Breed Conservation' and Cotswold Country Park, home to the UK's biggest inland beach, with water sports, fishing, toddlers' paddling and play area, adventure centre and lakeside walks and cycle paths.

Walk the Thames Path, enjoy a day at Cheltenham Races, watch a game of polo or perhaps a day of pampering at the thermal Roman baths in the city of Bath.

Or if leisure activites are your choice the Cotswold Water Park with over 140 lakes offers plenty of land and water based sporting activities from waterskiing and wakeboarding to angling and hiking or cycling around the lakes, rivers (including the Thames), Thames and Severn canal and three nature reserves.
The Cotswolds offers something for everyone from plentiful leisure activities to beautiful countryside, picturesque villages to good family entertainment, great food to watersports at the Costwold Water Park.

“Lovely cottage in a beautiful location.”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2014

We spent a week at Fairhazel in August and absoloutely loved it. The cottage was clean, well presented and already equipped with the basics ( tea, coffee, sugar, milk, cleaning supplies, hand soap, loo roll. All little things but it saved having to dash out to the shops straight away. Natalie had also left a bottle of wine and some locally made cakes, which was lovely! The estate was also great, self contained, picturesque with lots to do (over the bank holiday weekend there were additional activities arranged) along with the pool which was lovely and warm, the tennis court, trampoline, play area for little ones and little shop for convenience. There is lots of lovely walking routes in the area, a nice pub within walking distance and the county park with lots to do (about 30 mins walk with a 5 year old in tow!) There is lots more to do and see further afield and Natalie provides a really helpful information pack with everything you would need to know!

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. Hopefully I can welcome you and the family back real soon!

“Homely cottage in a beautiful park”

Reviewed 21 Mar 2014

We had a wonderful few nights in this pretty cottage. The owner welcome us with a cake and card. The cottage has a well equipped kitchen for those who wish to "self cater" - we preferred to walk to the local pub (take a very good torch!) Shampoo, shower gel, hairdryer all supplied. There is a small shop on the park, swimming pool (in season), tennis court. For children there is a play area and chickens who come and greet you. This cottage will be ideal for families, couples and friends, but not those looking for party nights. There is plenty to see and do in the beautiful surrounding area (need your own transport). There is a station in a village about 5 miles away, which we used to go to Cheltenham races. Look forward to visiting this lovely place again.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback! Hopefully I can welcome you back sometime soon.

“Beautiful cottage in a peaceful setting”

Reviewed 5 Nov 2013

We stayed at Fairhazel cottage in the October half-term. The cottage itself was beautiful with old wooden floorboards in the lounge/dining area and a lovely fresh feel of blues and creams throughout - it had almost a seaside feel about the decor and furnishings. It also had the added advantage of having ensuites for both bedrooms and a downstairs loo. The outdoor heated swimming pool was an instant hit with our 9 and 13 year old daughters and they spent as long as possible in it every day we were there. A definite bonus if you have both young and teenage children! The cottage was set in the Lower Mill Estate which had an eclectic mix of traditional type cottages in the lovely local yellow Cotswold stone, then to the other extreme in an area of the estate it had very contemporary glass fronted properties by the lake. Certainly something there for everyones tastes in accommodation! The only minor drawback we found with the estate itself was that the little shop that sold basic groceries and provided lunches, snacks, coffees etc was only open for about 3/4 days of the week (maybe that was because of the time of year though). If you're after a holiday that offers quality accommodation, peace and quiet, a very natural setting, cycling on your doorstep and lots of watersports to hand then I would definitely say that this cottage and location delivers on all these fronts.

Thanks very much for taking the time to provide your lovely feedback. Unfortunately, the owners of the little estate shop can only afford to open at busy times of the year. I hope to be able to welcome you and the family back soon!

“Beautiful cottage”

What a fantastic week away we had... The cottage was clean and exceptionally well equipt. We were welcomed with a lovely card and cake ,which we all enjoyed. The location and resort was perfect for families and our two children aged 7 and 12 loved the outdoor heated pool. Highly recommended.

“Fab cottage in fab location!!”

Reviewed 16 Aug 2013

Fairhazel was a lovely cottage. Travelled with two children aged 8 and 12 and the estate where the cottage was located had lots to entertain them. Cottage was a good size with separate bedroom and bathroom for the children. Bathrooms ensuite for additional privacy which was great. Cottage was easy to find with the instructions and will definitely stay here again! Thanks Natalie!

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback! I hope I can welcome you and the family back in the future.

“Lovely Cottage, great stay”

Reviewed 3 Jul 2013

We recently stayed at Fairhazel Cottage and had a wonderful relaxing time. We found the cottage just as described, with lovely welcome gifts waiting for us. The cottage is nicely decorated, clean and well presented with lots of extra touches which are not normally found in holiday rentals. It is obvious that Natalie, the owner has put a lot of thought into her preparations for visitors. The little garden is very sheltered and a lovely space to sit. It is a great location with many things to do in the area. Would love to visit again.

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. I hope to be able to welcome you back soon! After recently receiving a really odd negative review, it is great to know that Fairhazel still is a lovely place to stay.

“Relaxing break, great for toddlers”

Reviewed 20 May 2013

Stayed for two nights at Fairhazel Cottage, party comprising myself (very pregnant), husband and 3 year old daughter. Just what we needed - fantastic facilities and child friendly (but peaceful at the same time!). Communication for booking easy, clean comfortable and great cottage with some extra touches such as the choccies on arrival and use of outdoor games for kids and DVD's for grown ups. Heated outdoor pool fab. Would highly recommend.

Thanks Gemma for your feedback. Hope to welcome you back when baby no. 2 has arrived! Natalie

“Relaxing, cosy cottage”

Reviewed 4 Apr 2013

We stayed at Fairhazel Cottage in March 2013 with a small group of friends, we were welcomed with a lovely bottle of wine and card from the owner - and the cottage facilities and furnishings were pristine. The weather for March was horrendous - with snow and rain every day, however the lovely log fire, local pubs really made up for it. I would definitely recommed this cottage for all those who would like to get away from the hussle and bussle of city life. Thank you for such a wonderful stay.

“Fantastic place for your next break”

Reviewed 6 Jan 2013

I booked this cottage last minute as I decided to go away with my partner for New Year. I actually couldn't believe my luck. I was a tiny bit worried that I would be stuck with something that would be typical of something you normally get when you do something on a whim but I couldn't have been more happier with my stay. The cotswolds is an area that I love anyway but this cottage gives you the perfect base to visit some of the wonderful attractions the area has to offer. (I just wish I had a bit longer) The cottage was beautiful. Clean, quiet and with some lovely touches that the owner had furnished for us. I was also delighted at how thoughtful the owner had been. She had provided maps of areas to go walking, and had explained everything that we needed to make our stay as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. This is a perfect place to go if you don't know the Cotswolds very well as she has taken the time to give you everything you need. I cannot recommend this place enough. If you want a beautiful place to go to in the Cotswolds then you have found it.

Thank you so much for the lovely feedback. I hope I can welcome you back to Fairhazel Cottage sometime soon!

“Wonderful stay overall..”

Reviewed 2 Nov 2012

Overall stay was 2 thumbs up! Travelled with my family of 4 (2 adults/2 children). Cottage was clean and tidy when we arrived. Host was meticulous that we get all the information to get in the estate and into our cottage asap. Great job, Natalie! The cottage was very well equipped and we even had a great selection of movies (DVD), tennis rackets, table tennis etc.. that we could play within the estate. A truly satisfying stay with nothing to complaint about.
