The Tuscany region
The city of Pisa offers treasures of inestimable value that make it one of the most important Italian art cities. The core of his fine art and architecture offer is the Piazza dei Miracoli, from which arose the famous Leaning Tower.
The white marble monuments, which seem to arise from the turf from the square, offers visitors a unique spectacle. Complete the offer of the Art Museum Sinopie square, within which are housed the preparatory drawings of the frescoes of the Monumental Cemetery and the Museo dell'Opera, the rich collection of sculptures, paintings and ancient shrines.
In addition to the Piazza dei Miracoli Pisa offers a fascinating walk along the banks of the Arno that uses the highest beauty of night due to street lights and buildings that are reflected in the waters of the River. During the Night of San Ranieri, June 16, the profiles of buildings and bridges are decorated with lights to celebrate the patron saint of the city is the magical atmosphere of the Illuminations.
The Arno river are also the scene of the Game of Bridge, a famous historical pageant in which, after a long procession in costume, the two factions towns of North Wind and the South will compete in a test of strength, trying to push in against a heavy cart on rails.
Concludes the patron, in the events of June Pisano, the Regatta of Saint Ranieri, the legacy of the prestigious tradition of the Maritime Republic of Pisa.
Ancient village of Etruscan origin. Terricciola is located at the confluence of the valleys of the Age of the House and the stream Steer. The village, originally studded with towers, from which the Latin "Turris" Terricciola name, plays a significant role in the territories under the Bishop of Volterra, in the twelfth century.
Contention from Pisa and Florence, in 1284 the population of Terricciola swore allegiance to the Republic of Florence and entered the case in disputes between it and the city of Pisa that took control until 1406.
From the capitulation of Pisa, Terricciola follow the fate of the territory of Florence.
The memory of this contention remains the symbol of the town, where there are half and half Florentine lily cross Pisa.
Among the most significant works of this territory are to mention the shrine of Our Lady of Monterosso, the ancient Abbey of Camaldolese Morrona, with an adjacent Roman church of the twelfth century, the two villas Gherardi Del Testa and Cempini Meazzuoli, the village of Soiana, with a bell tower Bellincioni Baroque architect, the church at Pitti.
