Location description from owner

The England region

West Soar is situated in the South Hams area of South Devon. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty, with glorious beaches and coast and plenty of unspoilt countryside.

Nearby are the harbour towns of Dartmouth and Salcombe. Salcombe, the nearest town to Soar Mill Cove, is a popular resort for fishing, shopping, some great places to eat out as well as the lovely beaches.

Dartmouth, founded by the Normans, has long been used for trading, mainly due to it being a deepwater port. Now it is a popular sailing resort, as well as having a small fishing fleet.

Totnes is located further upstream on the River Dart, on the West bank. Historically Totnes was an inland port that exported cloth around the world. Some architecture from its heyday remains and there is still a small working port down on the river.

Soar Mill Cove

For the explorers in you, we have caves so dark that even grown ups will chicken out and great dog walks along the coastpath.

There are 3 golf courses nearby, sailing opportunities for all abilities, horse riding, clay pigeon shooting and outdoor adventure courses.

“The combination of benefits are quite unique”

So here we have: A detached house Hands on owners live next door Hotel next door but one with great pool is yours free of charge without restriction! Great restaurant happy to deliver to the house and NO extra charge Housekeeping done by hotel with extra midweek clean no problem, at a cost but very fair Our rate included (at my request) breakfast for all our party, worth every penny just to avoid the washing up. We didn't cook a thing, my idea of heaven! Add to this its completely surrounded by the national trust countryside and has the most breath-taking views, I think we were truly in heaven. I don't believe in nit picking and am certain that if we had any problems they would have sorted them without a fuss or complaint, they seemed that sort of people. We will be back, if they'll have us?

Delighted you enjoyed West Soar and our rather special home by the seaside in the same way that we do. it always works so well for families and multi generational holidays. Look forward to welcoming you back next year I hope

“Amazing house with unparalleled views”

We booked into West Soar for a family holiday. Our family live in the UK and Dubai and we wanted someplace special. West Soar more than exceeded our expectations. The location is fantastic - with amazing views over the hills to the sea. The 8 minute walk to the beach was perfect. Keith and family made us feel really welcome and having the hotel facilites right next door was really handy. All in all a super holiday and I would highly recommend it.

How slow we are to say thank you for such a lovely review. Jenny and I are delighted that you had such a lovely holiday and thank you for feedback

“A beautiful location, home and part of the country - go here !”

My husband and I rented West Soar for Christmas arriving on 22nd December and extended family arriving on 24th and 26th. On arrival, owing to the horrendous rain which had affected Devon badly we learnt that our games room was out of action owing to a landslide and flood. The hotel next door had also suffered and the swimming pool and spa were in the process of closing. Naturally we were disappointed but this was in no way down to anything other than mother nature and Matt on reception couldn't have been more apologetic. Every effort had been made to start the drying process and we got the games room back into action for 24th. On arrival we were greeted with a lovely cream team with lashings of clotted cream and a pot of rasperry jam - a really nice touch. Also it was nice to be met shortly after arrival by Keith and Jenny who braved the wind and rain to knock on our door and welcome us in person. The home was oil centrally heated and this was very effective and warm. I feel the cold so its nice to be able to say this wasn't an issue at all in this house. The views are wonderful and the master suite is extremely spacious and well designed. The kitchen is lovely and well equipped. We did buy some large mugs for our tea as those provided were quite small but otherwise it had everything we needed along with instruction books for applicances and plenty of room. The washing machine was also great considering the muddy clothes we generated each day romping across the local cliffs. The hot tub was also used daily despite it blowing a gale all day every day. I really enjoyed my stay and would love to come back one day. The place would be spectacular on a warm summers day.

Woe, what a lovely review and my goodness weren't those challenging weather conditions. Christmas is rather special at soar Mill Cove and I am so glad you enjoyed your holiday. Best wishes to all
