The Province of Munster region
Enjoy the multitude of Beaches. An extensive sandy beach in Derrynane Bay, one of the most beautiful and cleanest beaches in the world. The beach is situated in proximity to a Natural Heritage Area. Close by you will find the most beautiful site you will ever find for a graveyard (the old abbey)...The famous Kerry Way walking trail runs through the area as well. Some less known beaches are only accessible in low tide, for others you need to walk along the coast, to find lonely coves where you can relax in piece and quiet, and enjoy our beautiful bay. We can reach most of them with a car or paddle out to them with a canue.
They are all there just waiting for you to take a few spins down to enjoy the evening by the water.
Situated on the Northern side of Kenmare Bay, lying between the towns of Kenmare and Waterville, is the picturesque village of Sneem. Resting near the foot of a spectacular mountain range dominated by the 2,245 ft Knockmoyle, this village with its unusual "hour-glass" shape is divided in two by the River Sneem and traversed by a bridge which is the focal point of the village.
Located on the famous Ring of Kerry, Sneem provides an ideal base for anyone exploring the Kingdom of Kerry or West Cork. A previous winner of the Bord Failte run "Tidy Towns" competition, the main source of income for this little neat village is tourism. With its immaculately kept greens, colourful houses and haven of activities, Sneem is a must to visit. Its popularity is reflected by its long list of famous personalities who have visited the village including: Princess Grace of Monaco, Bernard Shaw, Charles De Gaulle, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Charlie Chaplin to name but a few.
One will never be bored in Sneem with plenty to see and do. Sea Kayaking is very popular in this area and is available at a number of locations. The most magical of these are, probably, Oysterbed and the Parknasilla Islands. With numerous families of seals, various species of birds and tree covered islands, the area provides spectacular scenery and ideal conditions for the Kayaker. Many other activities are also available including: golf, horse-riding, wind-surfing, water-skiing, sea-angling and sailing.
