Sliema

The resort of Sliema is located on the Malta’s east coast 5km north of Valletta by road and just 0.5km by ferry

Sliema occupies a peninsular with sea fronts on ‘The Strand (Ix-Xatt)’ facing Marsamxett harbour, Valletta, Sliema Creek & Manoel island or ‘Tower Road (Triq It-Torri)’ and the open Mediterranean sea

Transfer time between Luqa airport and Sliema is between 30 minutes to 1 hour, as always depending on local traffic.

Sliema is the main coastal resort on Malta, and it also has a large residential area. For holidaymakers who like a little sightseeing whilst on your holiday, combined with sports and good food, then Sliema fits the bill. This busy resort town centres on The Strand, a broad promenade with views of Valletta just 0.5km to 1km away. Sliema’s is renowned for it’s shops which are among the best on the island - Check them out for Maltese lace, fine silverware, pottery, and woollens. When night falls, the actions diverts itself to Sliema’s bars and restaurants, which are relaxed and mellow in mood with a cosmopolitan feel.

If you stay or visit Sliema then you must ensure you check out the fabulous view of the magnificent fortifications and church domes of Valletta rising high above Marsamxett harbour, from The Strand in Sliema. This is one of the best views of Valletta available and is easily recognisable as Malta’s capital.

As with many of Malta’s seafront resorts, Sliema comes with a flat rocky shoreline perfect for those looking to sunbathe without the sand getting here, there and everywhere. This shoreline makes it great for watersports enthusiasts. Swimming and snorkelling is very popular from the rocks but it is imperative that you locate a suitable exit point from the water, and be aware of the black sea urchins found on the rocks. Bugibba and the neighbouring resort of Qawra are both fronted by flat seafront promenades which are perfect for a pleasant stroll along the front in the cool of the evening after a long hot summer day.

The seafront at Sliema runs from St Julians in the north to near Manoel Island and Gzira in the West. For most of this distance there is a wide promenade with seating, cafes, children’s playgrounds statues and fountains. This is an area which the local authorities have extensively refurbished over the last 5 years making it a pleasant walking experience for young and old visitors to the resort. Please note however that in some areas these facilities are on different levels.

Most of the promenade runs along the busy main roads, Tower Road and The Strand. with several bus routes running along these roads, then if you get tired all you have to do is hop on the bus. Sliema promenade. Besides hotel pools and sun terraces at along the promenade, golden flat rocks are popular with sun worshippers with an easy access to the sea for a cool down in the hot summer months.ainly overlooks a flat bed rock beach. There are 2 swimming pool lidos and hotel pools towards Qui Si Sana.

“The location is excellent and the apartment is spacious and clean”

We were very happy with the apartment. The owner is very easy to deal with and her communication is prompt. She is very friendly and reasonable. The apartment is very spacious and clean and has everything you would need (including easy to use washing machine and a small yard outdoors to hang the washing). We didn't need to use the lift in the building and just used the stairs to the first floor. The location is excellent, being one street back from the seafront. It is a couple of minutes walk to the Sliema seafront. Plenty of cafes, restaurants, shops, supermarket, chemist are all walking distance. The bus stop is a few minutes walk away where you can get a bus to most parts of the island. We used this alot as we did not have a car and it was very convenient. It is also located within walking distance to St. Julian's Bay and my teenagers even walked back from Paceville. In the other direction we easily walked to the Sliema ferry and fashion shops, including The Point. The rent is also very reasonable for this apartment considering all of its favourable features and I would highly recommend it as a place to stay in Malta.

Very good apartment. Idel for up to 10 people. Very close to the sea and picturesque beach. The nearest market away about 500 meters.

I stayed in this apartment for a month with my children (10 and 1). The apartment is in very convinient location with all necessary shops nearby (2 big supermarkets are within 15 mins walk), very nice fruit&vegetable shop round the corner, various shops where you can buy clothes and other things for a baby (Mothercare etc) are also within 15 mins wak. The nearest beach is 5 mins walk, but you can't access it with the stroller. However, there were two other beaches where you can go with a stroller within 15-20 mins walk along the wonderful promenade. You will also find fantastic playgrounds near these beaches. Various restaurants and bars are all around. My daughter was going to Inlingua school which was also about 15 mins walk from the apartment. The apartment is only one floor above the ground and there is a lift in the building - so if you are with a stroller, you only need to lift over 4 stairs in the basement which was not difficult. The owner's family used to live in the apartment before, and you can really feel that it was arranged and decorated for a family and not just for renting out - this makes you feel at home once you've walked in. All facilities were functioning well, no problems during the whole month. When we rented this apartment through the agency, we were told there is no washing machine - but there was one, which was working perfectly well! Marieneve (the owner) welcomed us when we arrived and explained everything, and was also very helpful throughout our stay. She provided us with the baby chair and a crib which was very helpfull. She recommended a cleaning lady who was a great help to me. I managed to forget one valuable thing in the apartment when we left, and Marieneve was very kind to send it to me. The apartment has a lot of space which was great for my baby who was crowling (and then walking) all around. At the same time, it has all necessary furniture in every room where you can put your things. The apartment does not have a sea view (you can only see the sea from the balcony), but as a result of it you do not get direct sunlight during the day and therefore it does not get very hot. We used an aircondition only occasionally. Overall, it was very nice stay, we enjoyed Malta and I really hope we will be back.
