The house is a product of loving design and attention to detail, curving surfaces and all natural materials including wood, marble and natural eco paints. The sensitive renovation & building work inspired a best-selling book called The Healthy Home. People visiting from the city often find they sleep unexpectedly deeply, feeling rested and rejuvenated.

The 750 year old original cottage was extended in 1997 by conversion of the barn and then in 2004 the stunning extension was added with its 2-storey high 2m wide windows, offering a twenty mile view over the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. A beautiful conservatory built out into the private woodland overlooks the panorama.

Two private terraces offer magnificent views and the garden is a nature haven with a small field and woodland behind and a protected hillside wild garden in front. Organically cultivated for the forty five years we have owned it, the garden is quite a nature sanctuary…. we've counted 30 species of birds. The nature garden also features a pond often visited by Mallard ducks.

Location description from owner

The Yorkshire region

The Yorkshire Dales are one of the UK's favourite destinations ... the area so beautiful and varied,it has been used by dozens of film makers as the backdrop for movies and popular TV programmes. Yorkshire, England's largest county, was put on the world map in 2014 when the Tour de France cycle race started here and millions watched the breathtaking aerial photography as the cyclists travelled around the ancient roadways and villages.

Skipton

The Healthy Home is on a hilltop ten minutes from the market town of Skipton, gateway to the Dales and now recognised as the best place to live in Britain, in an annual poll judged by the Sunday Times newspaper. A vibrant market, cobbled streets, shopping that attracts visitors from all over the north, and of course all set in the most beautiful countryside. This town (old meaning of Skipton is "sheep town") is the centre of the region's sheep farming. The historic Leeds-Liverpool canal runs right through the town.

“Beautiful, large and interesting house”

Reviewed 10 Dec 2015

This was our first and hopefully not last stay at the Healthy Home. Gina the owner is keen on ensuring the best quality items are in the home and the result is a stylish yet practical holiday home-from-home. Our extended family met up and celebrated our son's 18th birthday with a big get together of close family. We had ages from 2 to 60 and there's a bedroom to suit most family make ups. The range of lounges and rooms, from the snug library to the very large dining room to the conservatory meant that all demands were well catered for. We were visiting in the most appalling rains and floods around the North including Skipton so we spent ALL our time in the house as it wasn't fit weather for outdoor pursuits - were we bored, no, nor the children as they spent time playing and exploring the nooks and crannies and rooms in the house. Highly recommended with lots of information from our hostess which we appreciated. Should you arrive at night, it is much more difficult to find as the house is with just one other - no address as such so try to arrive in daylight if possible. We hope to arrange another family 'do' soon. We will return!

Owner's reply: Thank you Chris .. we'd love to welcome you back. I'm so pleased all the celebrations went well. We are grateful for the care you took in leaving the house in fabulous condition. Very kind of you , thank you.

Had a wonderful time. The house is great accommodation for a large party (easily ten people) but can accommodate more by arrangement. Beautiful views of the Yorkshire Dales and please of space for special dinners. The house is very well furnished and equipped. A great time was had by all.

Owner's reply: Thank you Gary, I am so pleased everything went well for your special celebration weekend.. We hope to welcome you back another time

“fantastic place to stay, highly recommend”

Reviewed 30 Sep 2015

Myself and 9 friends spent a weekend in the healthy home to celebrate a 30th birthday. From the offset Gina the owner was incredibly helpful and she kept in regular contact with me to see if there was anything she could do for us whilst we were there. She sent me numerous links to local bars/restaurants and also provided some suggestions in regards to activities we could do both locally and in the house given that we were celebrating a birthday. The house is a little hard to find at first, unfortunately the postcode only takes you so far and then you have to find the rest of the way yourself however once you've found it it's easy to find again it becomes quite simple! The house itself is beautiful and the sheer size of it was simply gobsmacking the rooms were never ending. I would recommend that if you are spending a couple of nights there to spend at least one of them in the house to make use of all of the space that there is. We spent the first night in the 'party room' and it was more accommodating for all of us along with the numerous games that we had brought with us. Skipton town centre is about 15 mins in a taxi and there are pubs and bars and shops to keep you entertained so although it's in the countryside you won't be stuck in the middle of nowhere. If you are thinking of renting the house then please do so, you won't regret it. I will definitely be looking at coming back

Owner's reply: Dear Nicolle, Thank you. I am so pleased that all went well for your birthday weekend. We'd love to see you again... hopefully before your 40th !! Yes the house is very secluded and hidden but thank goodness most people nowadays have satnav on their phones. The maps do usually bring you right here, to the farm next door: you just need to watch out for our track and the white stone markers ... rather like a Treasure Hunt! ... :-)

“Away from the Madding Crowds”

If you want VERY comfortable peace and quiet, unbelievable views, and walking to die for ( not literally hopefully) this is the place for you and family or friends, Winter or Summer.

“A magical place....”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2015

I've stayed at the Healthy Home twice now, & both times I have loved it. The location is quiet & beautiful, the perfect place for a retreat or some time away. The house is of two old cottages into one & is laid out beautifully, with lovely places to sit & be. Plus a nice area for holding group meetings & a fab kitchen. We had everything we needed & we were comfortable & cosy. The garden is very pretty indeed with magnificent views all around, and plenty of walking around the fields. Thanks Gina - it's a truly special place.

“Singularly enchanting”

Reviewed 7 Jul 2015

Gina's healthy home is like nowhere else I have ever stayed. Not only in a wonderful location and beautifully laid out, but also packed with interesting features and curios. It was an education for our group of ten not particularly spiritually inclined or harmonious 30 year chaps. We found it difficult to decide which of the many lovely sitting rooms to hang out in next. Soothed by the overall effect of the place after three days, everyone was very reluctant to head back to their city jobs and boring houses and flats.

Owner's reply: Dan, thank you for your kind review. I am so glad that you had such a special celebration for your birthday. I agree, it is difficult to tear yourself away and head back to city life ! :-)

“Spectacular rental for a large group”

Reviewed 9 Jun 2015

We were a group of 11 friends going away for a weekend catch up. The accommodation is isolated enough to allow for spectacular views and good walks on the doorstep, but only a 10 minute drive from local amenities. We were welcomed by Joanne, one of the housekeepers, on our arrival who showed us around the property and explained where everything was. The house itself is astonishingly nice, with plenty of relaxing spaces, a good size kitchen/dining room and large bedrooms meaning that you never feel cramped. We were lucky enough to have good weather for our stay and so we were able to enjoy the garden on the Friday evening which, like the rest of the property, was well laid out and a pleasure to spend time in.

“Spacious, characterful home in the heart of serene countryside”

Reviewed 2 Jun 2015

Healthy Home was an excellent getaway for a large group. The fact this is an already lived in house made the stay more relaxing as it was already populated with all the things that make a place homely. The kitchen was the heart of the home during our stay and made all the better with a wood burning stove and seating for about 10. The view from the newest part of the house is stunning whether it's bright sun or rain and, whilst feeling very rural (one of the main reasons we booked) there are a number of towns relatively close and not too expensive via local taxis. A very thorough briefing email was provided by the owner prior to the stay and there are details of local activities, places of interest and walks already in the house.
