Description

Pelagos - a newly modernised four ensuite bedroom property with stunning views, tennis court, heated pool and yoga area - only a seven minute drive from the sea.

Here, you are on top of the world or imagine yourself on the deck of a luxury yacht watching other boats drift far below! Inside the vilia light flows in from so many different angles always giving wonderfully varying views - indeed Pelagos really seems to float.

This small villa with it's airy, full of light, feel good factor, sleeps eight guests with their own ensuite bathrooms and is characterised by a large terrace overhanging the steep drop away hillside, with bird's eye views over the sea to Kefalonia and along the indented coastline of Zakynthos . At night the lights dance magically along the coastline.

With parking space on the drive below, the approach to the villa is through the garden via the pool terrace and up some steps to a large terrace with French doors leading into the general living room area.

This includes a modern kitchen layout below wide windows looking past olive groves down to the sea, making even cutting the vegetables a joy as you prepare dinner! Or perhaps gossip with your friends seated around the kitchen island hardly realising that you are inside.

But what a romantic setting this is for lunch or dinner sitting under the pergola surrounding by open picture windows revealing uninterrupted panoramic views!

The four bedrooms each with their own bathrooms are very different. The largest is the newly converted loft bedroom with space for families to have two blow up mattresses for young children, or a couple to delight in the magical feeling of space. This bedroom has a bath right under the eaves from where you can look through a velux roof window at that blue blue sky so unique to Greece or watch fluffy clouds dance by. The loft bedroom is reached by a few steps along the side of the villa leading up to a large private deck and into the bedroom itself.

Two more bedrooms lead off the main floor living room, one with a double bed and the other with twin beds while the third is situated under the terrace, looking straight onto the swimming pool. Perfect for 'granny'! The bedroom lay out works for four couples, two families or one large family.

For the fit, your own private astroturf tennis court is a five minute walk away, but it is equally easy to drive there with an ice box of cold drinks! Running the entire width of the villa, the wrap around terrace leads to a yoga area at the side of the house. For walkers, especially in spring & autumn, the location of Villa Pelagos offers hiking trails and paths with ever changing views and then there is the joy of stretching out in a heated pool. But in July and August merely lounging by the pool, enjoying the sea breeze, is perhaps a better option!

The Port of Aghios Nikolaos is seven or eight minutes away. This typically small port is where the ferry from Kefalonia arrives and returns twice daily and from where you can get boat trips to the famous ship wreck and/or the blue caves! Here you will find a small super market with its cafe overlooking the port, a tourist shop, tavernas, a filling station and a hotel.

There is also a beach with free sun beds and at the far end of this beach there is a waterside taverna L'Astoria which expands with tables onto the beach. Although plate throwing has now been banned in Greece, every week the L' Astoria Restaurant, has a' Greek Evening' with local dancers when hundreds of white paper napkins are thrown instead of the traditional plates which are now banned -children really love this running round and collecting them, but it is a great event for all ages! Sometimes they even do throw plates - these are cleared away very fast before the dancing is resumed.

This beach side taverna and the supermarket are run by the Greek management team who look after our villas - so not only will they offer you a 10% discount at the shop but they are wonderfully helpful and will do their best to get anything you want from Zakynthos town for the following day, including meat and fish as they receive daily deliveries . But the croissants are baked on the spot! They have their own boat trips & give our guests VIP treatment!

Taking the coast road in the other direction away from the port (five minutes from the villa), after passing a few tavernas, there is a long beach, Makri Gialos with the usual umbrellas and pedalos.

Very much worth a visit a few hundred meters before Makri Gialos is Micro Nisi restaurant, a typically Greek family run taverna which overlooks a varying collection of boats moored below and has its own tiny little beach from where you can swim and have a refreshing shower before lunch! It is possible to rent different sized boats from the owner Nikos (for larger boats you will need to produce an ' I.C.C.' certificate).

Getting around

As there are no trains nor regular buses, it is essential to have a car. Even though our management team can deliver food and drinks from the minimarket seven minutes away, without a car you would miss out on going to the beaches, tavernas and exploring the island. It is possible to prebook a car for collection at the airport from most major car rental agencies. It is a forty minute drive from the airport to the meeting place where our manageress Nicoletta will meet you and take you to your villa.

Interaction with guest

Our policy is to respect the privacy of our guests. So once our manager, NIcoletta has taken our guests to the villa and explained how various things work she will make a point of leaving you in peace but this does not mean that she is not always available and is delighted to answer any questions about the variety of wonderful places, tavernas, boat trips, e.t.c. that are available. So if you are keen to know all about our favourite places, please do not hesitate to ask.

House rules

We have 7 grandchildren all under nine years old! But, like most houses there are areas as well as the pool where they could hurt themselves so itt is essential that toddlers and crawling babies are supervised.
Well behaved dogs are welcome, but we do not appreciate dogs that sleep on the beds or the sofas.
Smoking is only permitted outside but please remember that here is a serious fire risk on the island!
