Description from owner

Description

Cuán Beag is a brand new purpose built luxury Eco holiday home that sits very peacefully on the shores of sheltered Loch Treaslane (a subsidiary of Loch Snizort). There is a wealth of wildlife with Seals, Otters, Sea Eagles and many other birds frequenting the shoreline; and dolphins & porpoises have recently been seen swimming up the loch. Cuán Beag provides direct access to the shore for kayaks and small boats.

Cuán Beag's major asset is the bright and spacious open plan kitchen, dining and lounge area with strategically placed windows that give panoramic views of the loch and out towards the Outer Isles where the ferry can regularly be spotted in the distance arriving and leaving from Uig. The south facing decking area is a real suntrap even in winter sunshine. With an underfloor heating system throughout and individual room thermostats the whole property is very comfortable; there is also a wood-burning stove for those cosy evenings.

The south facing decking area is a real suntrap even in winter sunshine. With an underfloor heating system throughout and individual room thermostats the whole property is very comfortable; there is also a wood-burning stove for those cosy evenings.

Cuán Beag is as well suited to a romantic retreat for two as it is for a group of friends or family to relax and enjoy the surroundings. As with our first holiday let, (Moeraki) we have once again prioritised on quality key furnishings (in particular luxury mattresses, bedding and settees for your comfort at the end of the day) as well as carefully planning the layout of and fully equipping the kitchen to enable many creative dishes. Built-in appliances include a double oven with grill, separate Induction hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and freezer as well as a coffee machine. In addition to the usual toaster and kettle there is also a sandwich press, food processor with liquidizer along with weighing scales and other baking accessories, dishes and trays and a large range of kitchen utensils including good quality kitchen knives that are kept sharp.

The Master bedroom with its own door opening onto the south facing decking can be set up as a Super King size double bed or as two 3ft wide twin beds and has an en-suite bathroom with large walk in rain shower. The second bedroom also has a large Super King size double bed and en-suite shower room. The third bedroom can be set up as either a Super King sized double or as two 3ft wide twin beds. This room has access to a luxury bathroom with modern free standing bath. Adjacent to the main entrance is a utility area where outdoor clothing and equipment can be stored and also located here is an additional sink, washing machine and tumble drier if required.

The large 55" Flat Screen HD TV has a "Sound Bar" and access to Freeview channels with an easily accessible HDMI port to connect to your own devices. There is also a Blu-Ray DVD Player and a selection of DVDs and a Hi-Fi System that conveniently connects via Blutooth to your own devices. We also provide a selection of traditional games, cards and a wide selection of books, walking guides and maps; not forgetting a handy pair of binoculars to spot the wildlife through those windows!

This is a low allergen home, so we do not permit any pets or smoking. We regret that we are unable to safely provide a fire guard around the stove and therefore our insurance does not cover us for children aged 12 and under.

Location description from owner

The Scotland region

Cuán Beag is ideally situated about half a mile off the main road with Portree the Island's capital being conveniently only 10 minutes drive away. There is easy access over to the Trotternish peninsular with it's spectacular Quiraing and the Old Man of Storr as well as to the Waternish and Duirinish peninsulars for more really dramatic scenery including the famous Neist Point where there are regular whale, dolphin and basking shark sitings. In this area there is also Clan Macleod's Dunvegan Castle, Skyeskyns (traditional sheepskin tannery - free tours), or you may wish to visit the 3 Chimneys restaurant for that special celebration. The Cuillin mountain range, Glen Brittle and the Fairy Pools are within easy reach by car from Cuán Beag.

“Five stars for comfort, facilities and location”

Reviewed 17 Apr 2017

Usually when I hear a property described as 'stylish, contemporary & open plan' I mentally add the the words 'impractical, uncomfortable and soulless'. Nothing could be further from the truth at Cuan Beag. The house is wonderfully comfortable for six adults to stay together and the rooms can all be re-formatted to accommodate families with children as well. the decor is stylish, contemporary and comfortable. The house is equipped with everything you could possibly need and more - the only thing we couldn't find was a schnitzel hammer! The location is perfect for exploring the island with easy access to both the north and south of the island. Portree is only 15 minutes away by car but when you're in the house it would be easy to believe that you are miles from civilization. The views out onto the loch are stunning you don't have to venture out of the house to start spotting the local wildlife! We have stayed at this owner's other property in Broadford and the best compliment we can pay Cuan Beag is that we think this is even better! If you are looking for a top class self catering rental in Skye you won't find a better property than Cuan Beag. We will definitely be returning!

“Peaceful location”

Reviewed 5 Apr 2017

Cuan Beag is a beautifully equipped and furnished cottage in a truly peaceful location. It was lovely to be able to sit and watch otters, seals and various ducks through the windows using the top quality binoculars provided. The property is very cosy, thanks to the eco air source heat pump and a log burner is provided for chillier evenings. We were lucky that in March the weather was warm enough to allow us to sit outside on the decking. Beds are very comfortable, the bathrooms luxurious with lovely fluffy towels. Everything you could need is provided. My particular favourite is the fantastic coffee machine. Crockery, cutlery and glassware are all matching and of very good quality. Situated not far from Portree, this property is ideally located for exploring the northern half of Skye. Dunveagan with its castle and some good restaurants is an easy drive. The Three Chimneys is also within about 30 minutes drive, book well in advance, and the village of Stein also boasts some great places to eat. Skye Skins and Shilasdair are both close to Stein. We saw some stunning sunsets from Cuan Beag. Definitely a place to help you relax.

“Very comfortable”

The house was very comfortable and well equipped. Everything was to a very high standard and could not be faulted. Great views of the loch

“The perfect place for rest and relaxation.”

Reviewed 26 Mar 2017

Everything you could wish for in a holiday home. Lots of thought has gone into making this a home from home. From the well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and wood burning fire for the cold nights. We have been to Skye many times in the past 10 years and stayed in lots of different holiday homes but this has certainly been the best so far. Stunning views, great local wild life from the comfort of your living room. Easy access to the rest of the island. I would recommend this home to anyone. Jenny and Dave have thought of everything and were very helpful. The welcoming bottle of wine was a lovely touch. We will definitely return.

“Fantastic cottage”

Reviewed 19 Feb 2017

We had a lovely week at Cuan Beag. The property is well equipped and finished to a high standard, with everything we needed. Comfy beds, good showers, welcoming stove. The views are amazing and we were prividledged to see a pair of sea eagles. The weather was a real bonus. Highly recommended.

“Wonderful modern, relaxing house in the perfect location for exploring Skye. Highly recommended.”

Reviewed 27 Nov 2016

We spent 3 nights at Cuan Beag and loved it. The house was extremely clean, very modern and fully equipped with everything you could need. The house is right by the water and provides a beautiful sunrise location (see pic). We spent our days exploring Skye and evenings cooking in the house, enjoying the log burner and the huge TV with lots of movies to choose from! We would highly recommend this house to any couple, group or family!
