Location description from owner

The England region

Warwickshire is a landlocked county in the West Midlands region of England. It came into being as a division of the kingdom of Mercia in the early 11th century, and the first recorded references to Warwickshire date back to 1001, when it was known as "Wæringscīr". During the Middle Ages, Warwickshire dominated the textiles trade from the heart of England. In 1642, the first pitched battle of the first English Civil War took place in Warwickshire, at Edgehill. And, during the Industrial Revolution, Warwickshire became one of country’s foremost industrial counties. So, Warwickshire has a rich and colourful history to explore, which is reflected in the county’s many historic attractions and its picturesque towns, including Warwick, Royal Leamington Spa and Kenilworth. Warwickshire is also home to the birthplace of George Eliot, the renowned Victorian author, and is sometimes referred to as “Shakespeare’s country”. William Shakespeare, widely regarded as a great writer the world’s pre-eminent dramatist, was born in Warwickshire’s Stratford upon Avon on 16 April 1564. As a result, the county is today host to an array of cultural attractions and associated places of interest. Dovehouse Farm in Shustoke is an ideal location from which to explore the wonderful county of Warwickshire.

Shustoke

Shustoke is an ancient village in Warwickshire, recorded in The Great Survey of 1086 (Domesday Book) as “Scotescote.” The parish registers are some of the earliest in the country, dating from the reign of Henry VIII, and include entries in the handwriting of Sir William Dugdale, who was born on Shawbury Lane and is widely regarded as the country’s first and greatest antiquarian. Today, Shustoke retains its village character, in a quiet and beautiful rural setting close to Coton Lakes and Ladywalk Nature Reserve as well as other areas of natural interest off the beaten track.

For the business traveller, Shustoke is just a short drive from key Midlands venues such as the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) and The Belfry conference centre. Hams Hall Business Park and Birmingham Business Park are also close by. So, Dovehouse Farm in Shustoke offers an ideal setting for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle whilst travelling to the Midlands on business.

For the leisure traveller, Shustoke is an ideal base for a peaceful getaway, whilst also catering for a multitude of interests, activities and pursuits in the immediate surrounding area. These include, for example:

Golfing – The Belfry, Forest of Arden, Maxtoke and Stonebridge courses are all within 9 miles

Walking – Shustoke is set in delightful countryside, on the Heart of England Way, and there are many public footpaths around the village and surrounding area

Watersports – The Kingsbury Water Park is just 6 miles away and, right on the doorstep, Shustoke reservoir is host to Shustoke Sailing Club

Cycling – There are some tremendous local cycling routes, and Shustoke is just 6 miles from Meriden, home to a memorial to all the cyclists who died in the First World War and an annual event at which thousands of cyclists pay their respects

Shopping – Shustoke is a short drive from the new Resort World near the NEC, and around 25 minutes’ drive from Birmingham city centre, home to the Bull Ring, and the centres of shopping in both Solihull and Coventry

Spa days – The Belfry Spa and the Cedarwood Spa at Forest of Arden are just a short drive away. We are also able to arrange a variety of beauty and massage treatments in the comfort of your cottage at Dovehouse Farm

Family Fun Days – Drayton Manor Theme Park, home of Thomas Land and packed with a host of great rides and attractions set in 280 acres of lakes and parkland, is only 10 miles away

Various horse riding and fishing destinations are also located nearby, and the property is close to the Shustoke Farm Barns wedding venue.

“Most welcoming amazing cottage”

Reviewed 18 Aug 2015

Rented this for our daughters wedding as the venue was just around the corner. Was not disappointed with any part of our stay both before, during and after the wedding. Gorgeous interior and exterior.

We are really grateful for the review, and it's genuinely satisfying to hear that we met with expectations: we strive for this with every party of guests.

A fab cottage with everything you need for a great stay. Clean and warm. Couldn't fault it. Very welcoming, friendly owners. Highly recommended.

We greatly appreciate the review and feedback. Thank you.

“Lovely stay”

Reviewed 20 Jan 2015

We stayed with our 5 year old daughter during the back end of half term. The new owners of the property hadn't long taken over but were friendly and eager to optimise our enjoyment of the property. Our daughter loved the property and commented that felt like she was staying in her own little village. It is picture postcard pretty. We used it as a base to visit friends in Solihull and took day trips to Cadbury World and Warwick Castle. Handy for the motorway but very peaceful as well. Recommended.

We really appreciate the review comments. We are also acting on additional feedback provided by this guest in order to further enhance the property and our service.

“A charming cottage in a beautiful and peaceful location”

Reviewed 14 Jan 2015

We had a family break here just after Christmas two couples and our toddler. From the moment we booked the owners were helpful and accommodating. The cottage itself is set in a lovely courtyard and is a great mix of traditional features and modern convenience. We had pretty much everything we need and enjoyed trips out and about. Seemed to be lots to do outdoors nearby, but we didn't have great weather. We would definitely come back, thank you Ken.

Thank you for your very kind comments
