“A haven of peace in an idyllic rural setting”

Reviewed 8 Oct 2013

If you are looking for peace and quiet interrupted only by the gentle cluck of hens or bleating of sheep, then this is the place for you. There was a warm welcome from Clare and Laurence, complete with delicious home-made cake and a bottle of wine. There is no traffic noise; just perhaps the occasional distant tractor. The local pub at Muddiford can provide the best Sunday roast you will ever taste. The surrounding hills will keep you fit, yet you can be in Barnstaple in under 20 minutes by car. Leave the car at Barnstaple Station (under £2.00 after 10:00am) and you can be in Exeter by train in another hour or hire a bicycle for the day and explore the Tarka Trail - Bideford, Torrington or Braunton. Go north from the cottage and you can enjoy Arlington Court (NT), the narrow gauge Lynton and Barnstaple Railway or explore the delights of Lynton and Lynmouth. Exmoor is close at hand and there are many good pubs to be tried. Good local food is available from the Barnstaple Pannier Market. Altogether a memorable place to stay.

“Wonderful country getaway”

Reviewed 22 Oct 2012

We booked to stay in the Courtyard Cottage for a long weekend. We found the cottage well equipped and clean. Our two boys aged 1 and 4 loved exploring the garden and visiting the chickens & sheep. The pool facilities are a short drive away but well worth going to, our eldest son wanted to return every day. Claire and Lawrence were extremely welcoming, supplying a delicious cake and bottle of wine on our arrival. They were also very helpful providing us with information about the local area. If you are going with young children we would recommend that you bring a travel stair gate as the stairs are accessed from the open plan living area. During our stay in North Devon we visited Croyde Bay, Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park and Combe Martin Village. All these places are within a 30 minute drive from the cottage & kept our boys entertained. We would recommend this cottage to friends and would consider returning in the future.

“Fantastic cosy rural cottage to stay at great base to visit the local area!”

Reviewed 12 Sep 2012

All local attractions beaches etc 10 miles in the car perfect base. Cottage is lovely and clean the open fire is great for marshmallow roasting! Great for children and people looking to relax! Love the 2 pet sheep and chickens in the rear garden, a pair of buzzards sit on the telegraph pole on the drive most days. We were made to feel very welcome great cake and wine on arrival will definitley be visiting again! Thank you for a lovely stay!

Thank you very much for the great feedback hope to see you again. Laurence & Clare & family.

“Lovely cottage in beautiful rural Devon with helpful and friendly owners”

Reviewed 12 Sep 2012

This property is very well equipped and located in an exceptionally beautiful part of the country. On arrival we were given a warm welcome by the owners, who live next door. Inside the cottage, a wine, milk, flowers and a delicious home made cake were waiting for us. There was also plenty of information about the cottage and the surroundings in a folder. We had lovely weather and explored the countryside and beaches as well as some nearby towns. It is also worth noting that the property has access to the garden and that the owners' sheep and chickens are at the end of the garden. A car is a must as the cottage is rather isolated and would be difficult to reach by public transport, however this does mean that your stay will be very peaceful and you will be surrounded by rolling hills. I would highly recommend this cottage.

Thank you very much for the great feedback hope to see you again. Laurence & Clare & family.

“Lovely Family friendly get away!”

Reviewed 30 Apr 2012

I had an urge to get away from London so found myself looking for a cottage for a week. I took my best pal and her little lad with me so needed somewhere toddler friendly that was close to beaches and activities. I came across the Courtyard Cottage on Holiday Lettings. I loved the look of it and knew the area somewhat so booked a week. And what a lovely week it was, the cottage has everything you could need plus we were left a delicious cake, bottle of wine and pint of milk to turn up to. We loved the beach at Croyde which became our fave and even though it was April were in the sea in our wetsuits. We also visited the dinosaur and wildlife park. To be quite honest though, all my friends son needed was the chicken and lambs owned by the cottage owners who were kind enough to let him feed them (twice a day!). Thank you very much for a relaxing and lovely week!

Thank you very much for the great feedback hope to see you again. Laurence & Clare & family.
