Location description from owner

The England region

The Isle of Wight is a beautiful island just 23 miles by 13 miles and is located just off the south coast of mainland UK with ferry crossings from Southampton, Portsmouth and Lymington.

Known as the Garden Isle because of its stunning natural beauty, the Isle of Wight is the perfect UK destination for holidays and tourists, catering for all age groups.

Due to the warmer climate that The Isle of Wight enjoys, being gently warmed by the Gulf Stream, the Island is often warmer than the rest of Mainland UK. It also helps to make The Isle of Wight a year round destination. The Island in Autumn and the winter months is peaceful and breathtaking. Whilst in Spring you can walk through woodland carpeted with Bluebells. In the summer you can enjoy the beach life and the many events that are held around the island.

The Island plays host to the Isle of Wight Music Festival, which is in June and the Bestival during September. In addition, the Island is famed for top acts playing at Osborne House (which was Queen Victoria's holiday home) Carisbrooke Castle as well as the Garlic Festival and County Show. There are also many local bands, singers, entertainers and events on offer throughout the year.

Shanklin

Shanklin is a very popular seaside resort which nestles on the South East coast of the island and benefits from a micro climate with the longest sunshine hours in the UK.

Just a few minutes walk from the Albury are two lovely sandy beaches; Hope & Small Hope beach which eventually meet Sandown beach and are accessed either by the Beach Lift from the nearby Eastcliff Promenade, via the Osborne steps or a short stroll along Keats Green, past the famous beautiful Chine, the stunning Chine and Heritage Centre (a deep ravine with a waterfall and diverse flora and fauna) which was the islands first tourist attraction. There are cliff walks, active Sailing Club, Rowing Club and Deep Sea Fishing Club, numerous water activities, beach huts, Esplanade amusements & arcade, crazy golf, shore angling, cafes, restaurants and pubs along the waterfront with stunning views of the Culver cliffs and the sea.

In addition to the beaches the Albury is located only a stones throw away from Shanklin's many interesting shops, good restaurants, bars, pubs and tea rooms, the historic, quaint, pretty Old Village with its gorgeous thatched cottages and the Shanklin Theatre.

With excellent transport links from the Island Line railway, the bus/rail services around the island including the “Sandown Bay Tour” an open top bus serving the main tourist areas of Shanklin and Sandown, The Albury is a perfect holiday location.

“This is a Gem and ticks all the boxes!”

Reviewed 30 May 2013

This is an immaculately clean establishment offering the choice of both B&B and self catering. It is in a great position just a few minutes walk to the beach in one direction and the town in the other. It is in a quiet street and I slept in the front of the establishment and didn't hear a thing! It is great value with added extras to make you feel special. The landlady is very warm and friendly and extremely helpful in all aspects. I have recommended it to my family and friends and now recommend it to anyone who reads this.

“Absalutely brilliant weekend Great location!”

I had not been to the I.O.W for many years so when I arrived at the Albury I was pleased that the owner had so much local knowledge of the Island and activities that were happening at the time I was there. The Albury is a family run business and you can tell that a lot of care and attention has been made to even the smallest detail. I stayed in the self contained cottage which was clean and had every convenience to make our stay a pleasurable one. The owner was very hospitable and keen to show off the B&B rooms for us to pass on our recommendations. The breakfast was what you call a 'Hearty English Breakfast' and I really am looking forward to returning very soon in the summer.
