The Isle of Wight region
The Isle of Wight is the UK's most popular holiday island and has one of the mildest climates in the country along with being one of the sunniest places in the UK.
The Isle of Wight is very small being diamond shaped and measuring just 16 miles by 23 miles. This adds to being a great holiday destination as everywhere is within easy travelling distance. The isle of Wight became a fashionable place to holiday in the Victorian era after Queen Victoria opened a summer home at Osborne House in East Cowes. The towns of Shanklin, Sandown and Ryde are the most popular tourism resorts on the island with the West Wight being more rural.
Over half of the Isle of Wight is designated an area of outstanding natural beauty with 60 miles of beaches including heritage coastline. For those who like walking and cycling you'll never be bored as the island boasts over 500 miles of well maintained clearly signposted routes and pathways. The Isle of Wight is home to the biggest annual walking festivals which occur in May and September each year.
For families the Isle of Wight is absolutely packed full of things to do and attractions to visit. The Needles is probably the most famous of all island destinations and here you can enjoy a chairlift ride that takes you from the clifftop down to the beach giving you a birds eye view of the stunning coloured sands that this area of Alum Bay is famous for as well as the 3 rocky stacks and lighthouse that you can get closer to on a short boat trip.
Blackgang Chine offers many surprises and goes down in history as being the first theme park in the world to open! It is also well known for it's Disappearing Village attraction.
Cowes in the North of the island is world renown for it's yachting and sailing events throughout the year.
There are many places of historical interest open to visitors including Queen Victoria's Osborne House, Carisbrooke Castle, Appuldurcombe House and many more.
Shanklin nestles in the South East of the Isle of Wight and has a wonderful mild climate with above average days of sunshine. Shanklin Villa is located just a few minutes walk away from Shanklin Beach and Esplanade. Along the Esplanade you can hire deckchairs, play crazy golf/putting let children work off energy with the indoor play areas and get some light refreshments from cafes and bars. There is a stunning Cliff Walk 2 minutes from your apartments that takes you to Sandown and offers some stunning views of the sea. For an easier walk you can go along the sandy beach or Esplanade.
A few minutes walk from the apartments takes you in to Shanklin Old Village with its traditional thatched cottages. Here you'll also find Shanklin Chine with it's deep gorge and waterfalls. Shanklin Town Centre is close by with it's high street shops and supermarkets.
Along the seafront you can access a variety of watersports

“Shanklin Villa Apartments.”
A return visit and once again we weren't disappointed. Friendly staff and even got a text message to tell us the 'Beatrice' was ready earlier than we expected. Sea view this time and all equipment we needed was provided. Made use of the leisure facilities at nearby Luccombe Manor Hotel and the local buses to tour the island. (Bus stop close by and could use bus passes!) Great to go earlier in the year and take advantage of Shanklin Villa Apartment's special deals. Weather was kind to us too. Hope to return next year, if the deals are on. He he.
Would stay here again very clean and everything you need for your stay. great place to stay for walking along the beach. Only two negative things I would say and they or they should change is that the thermostat needs to be moved from behind the door and put timers on the exactor fans in the bathrooms so they don't come on between 11pm - 6am, when you are lying in bed at night you can hear then humming. Nothing really, I think it a nice place and a great welcome from Mary.
very comfortable room, very clean, and all you need for a great stay. thank you. will stay again. Location perfect.
“the luxury of a hotel with the benefits of self catering”
We stayed in the Beatrice apartment. It was extremely well equipped and spotlessly clean. toiletries in the bathroom , dishwasher tablets.....milk in the fridge everything you needed was there. The TV incorporates a DVD player . the apartment is bigger than it appears on the internet and surprisingly it is not at all odd to cook a meal in the same room as the bed. The thing that we liked the most was the wonderful view of the sea and sky from the window. We enjoyed a very nice meal ( local Bembridge Lobsters) watching the ever changing cloud formations . Our only criticism was that the room was very warm and it was only possible to open the windows a small amount due to safety bolts . I think it would have been quite unpleasant in the height of summer and if no alteration can be made to the window openings then certainly a fan needs to be provided in the room. We were able to check in early and leave later at no extra cost which was much appreciated. The hot tub was fun but it could do with some screening as it is quite amusing to suddenly realise that the passengers on the top deck of the passing buses can see you!
“Lovely apartment, excellent location”
The Beatrice apartment was so clean and furnished to a very high standard. The location was perfect, in walking distance to Shankin old village and the beach. The price was very reasonable too, we would definitely stay again.
