Location description from owner

The Occitanie region

Aude is surrounded by two mountainous massifs (North, the Black Mountain (Montagne Noire) ; South, the Pyrenees) and two basins (East, the Languedoc basin; West, the Aquitaine basin). Aude has 47km of Mediterranean coast under Mediterranean climate. Landscapes are nevertheless very diverse, from the Mediterranean Sea to the Pyrenees mountains.

Amongst a rich heritage, discover the medieval castles, the « Citadelles du vertige » (literally, head spin citadels), evidence of the Cathar epic ; romanesque abbeys and cloisters; the Medieval city of Carcassonne; the Roman city of Narbonne; prehistoric caves; and many other unique locations all around the department.

Aude offers a wide range of outdoor activities in spectacular landscapes : walks under the centenarian trees bordering the famous Canal du Midi, hiking, water sports, cycle touring, mountain bike tours, speleology, and many more.

Above all, Aude hosts the biggest and oldest vineyard of France : no need to say that gastronomy is an art in this region, where you'll be delighted by local recipes and grand wines.

Servies-en-Val

Set in the beautiful Corbieres region with panoramic views of the mountains and countryside, this tranquil village is close to beautiful lakes, walks and cycling areas, whilst also being a short driving distance to Lagrasse, Carcassonne, Narbonne Plage, and not a great distance from the Pyrenees.

There are many beautiful places close to the village where you can relax or unwind. Castles and villages steeped in Cathar history; long sandy beaches; the giant chasm of Cabrespine.-one of the largest caves in the world open to the public - 80 metres long and 220 metres high. The geology of the cave is unusual, with a huge range of crystal and rock formations; In Carcassonne you will also find a man-made beach at Lac de la Cavayere, along with the Australien Parc which is a leisure park and zoo. If you like the series of books that Kate Mosse wrote 'Labyrinth, Sepulchre, Citadel then this is the region that was written about and filmed around.

There are various events throughout the year which include a 'lively' annual 3-day fete during the last weekend of July, which is enjoyed by the whole village. La Tour de France races through Carcassonne, and the grape-picking season is throughout September.

“Excellent, tranquil and perfect”

Reviewed 18 Jun 2014

Perfect vacation for us. Quiet little house with everything you could need as a family. All the shops you could need in the village, and everyone very friendly and inviting. There are lots of places to walk to and see, but we also hired a car which meant there was so much more opened up to us. Local lakes, beaches and tourist spots. Would very much go back and recommend it..

“Beautifully located cottage”

This is a fabulous place to go and holiday and it's one of though must go to places which once you've discovered, you'll want to keep going back to again and again! Typically "lazy" French village surrounded by fileds and vineyards all around, but still having the essential small shops you need to buy everythigny ou'll need while staying there, and there's even a local bar which is fabulous for chilling out and relaxing with the locals, who are all incredibly friendly and warm. I've been going there for quite a few years, both when my son and daughter were small and again when they were much older, and each time we've all fallen in love with the house and village all over again! There's some beautiful walks and scenery, and close by are various lakes you can simply just dive in and enjoy with the locals and they all seem to be open to the public, and if you're an artist or photographer, you'll be seventh heaven, as the views are breathtaking! You have local countryside, local produce, and only a short drive away the gorgous medieval town of carcassonne itself, filled with all it's lovely market stalls. In Carcassone also you'll find a wonderful man made beach and lake which is perfect for the kids, I know, because my two loved it and still do! The coast is also very close if you fance a day by the "seaside" nad to be honest, of you're looking for a fabulous holiday in a gorgeous region of France with really friendly locals, you will absolutely love your visit to Le petit Bleu!

“Perfect french village escape”

Woke up with the church bell ringing and the girls desperate to visit the very lovely lady down the street who sold delicious bread for breakfast. With our mood determining the choice of having lots to do or staying in the village. A walk in the vineyards at night to star gaze will be a lasting memory as will the wonderfully friendly village who could not do enough to make sure we had a memorable stay. Highly recommended to those who want to walk/cycle/tour the local area.
