The Languedoc-Roussillon region
The House and surrounding area: This beautiful village house situated just a 25 minute drive from the medieval city Carcasonne, Frances 2nd most popular tourist destination. It allows you to escape but to also enjoy good food, wine and relaxation. Le Manoir itself is built into the outskirts of the village walls, and in previous years has been an old school house. It is spacious enough to enable families to holiday together without getting on top of each other, and with local amenities such as a restaurant, bakery, butchers , cellier and general store all located in the village of Servies en Val, you need not even leave the village if you so desire. In our and neighbouring villages there are fantastic restaurants and only 10 minutes away by car there is the town of Lagrasse which is one of the 'Plus beaux villages de France' one of just over 100 villages in france that have been awarded this recognition to help preserve traditionally historic villages in france, it has many stunning restaurants and historical sites of interest.
The Languedoc-Roussillon / Aude region
Situated in the stunning valley of the Val d'agne surrounded on all sides by the expansive foothills of the corbieres mountains and located in the heart of the Cathar region, with numerous medieval castles, monasteries and churches to discover, including of course, the largest walled city in Europe, Carcassonne ( A UNESCO World Heritage site) and the influence behind Walt Disneys designs !. Local towns such as Narbonne and Mirepoix are within an hour drive but if you want a larger city, Perpignan, Toulouse and Montpelier are all about one and a half hours drive away. From the house to the beach is about a fifty minute drive, through the beautiful undulating Corbieres hills surrounded on all sides by vineyards .Visit one of the many chateaux for wine tasting experiences coupled with produce from nearby markets creating a gastronomic experience to die for.
A truly sumptious place for lovers of good food, good wine and life in general.
A superb destination for families and groups in search of that quintessential southern France experience.
Servies en val is only 12 km from Lagrasse . Built around the original chateau it is an unspoilt rural french village but with everything you would need to be completely self sufficent.
Nearby small lakes and rivers in abundance to explore on foot.
Lagrasse itself has multiple award winning restaurants and bars being part of the Les Plus Beaux Villages de France association ("The most beautiful villages of France").
The two highlights of the village are the eponymous Abbey, and the bridges, although the narrow medieval streets of the village itself are also very attractive, and remains of the town walls can still be seen
.Canal du Midi (20 mins drive)
The 300 year old Canal du Midi skirts the sun-drenched shores of the Mediterranean before meandering inland through ancient villages, Roman fortifications and famed vineyards. This canal is defined by its beauty, lined with plane trees and crossed by pretty arched bridges.
This is the perfect place for cycling or walking along scenic tow paths. In the distance you can see the Pyrenees, whereas closer to hand are the vineyards that stretch for thousands of square miles .
Lac de Cavayere
A man-made lake covering 18 hectares.Often called Carcassonne plage it is a just outside the small village of Montlegun on the outskirts of Carcassone.
This beautiful expanse of water is home to an abundance of wildlife and fish. The designated swimming areas are supervised by qualified life guards during the high season, and there are special roped areas for young children and less confident swimmers. It takes approximately 1 hour to enjoy a walk around Lac de Cavayere, or why not simply sit back and watch the boats, pedallos, fishermen and the occasional family outing by the nesting duck population?

Have visited the property twice, both during druing the summer months, once as a couple and once with children. We found the house spacious, cool and very relaxing. The location means you are away from the noise of the city but still close enough to neighboring villages and towns with all of the amenities you could need. For example the house is within 30 minutes of Carcassonne where we visited more than once for dinner. Id reccommend this to anyone looking to explore a beautful region of France from within the confines of an immaculate house.

"Has everything for a great holiday for the whole family, will definitely go back."
House has loads of space with large individual rooms which have authentic French furniture. The bathrooms and shower rooms have a modern clean finish. kitchen and dining area are great for family meals with plenty of storage and prep surfaces. Sky Tv and DVD player keep kids entertained. Swimming pool area has everything you need as there is a great eating and outdoor kitchen with barbecue. Ample sunbathing and relaxation area with WIFI, very safe for kids as is self contained. The house is in a small town which is small enough to be friendly but still has handy services like baker, butcher, small convenience store, wine shop and resturant/bar. Very pleasant countryside for walks especially around river. Great attractions within short drive, my kids especially enjoyed the O2 park at the local lake which had loads zip wires and climbing areas.

We stayed here with friends and 4 young children last summer. We had a brilliant time. The house is furnished to a high standard, and the pool area is safe and idyllic both in the sun and out of it. The local village is friendly and accommodating and we loved tacking trips out in the surrounding countryside. We are booked in again for 2013!

We stayed here last summer and had an incredible time. The house is spacious and the conversion has been done with obvious care, the property retaining many original features. It is set in a traditional rural village with amazing views of the countryside, especially from the roof terrace. The swimming pool completely sets this place apart. If you are after a relaxing holiday, away from the hustle of everyday life this is the place to escape.
