Description from owner

Description

This enchanting cottage is on our working family farm in Drax near Selby. Cosy and traditional with a log fire but with the comforts of modern living such as free wi fi.

The cottage has two bedrooms. The double bedroom has a very comfortable kingsize bed overlooking the farm yard, the twin bedroom overlooks the orchard where the chicken and geese live. Downstairs is a kitchen, with traditional pantry, sitting room with a large dining table great for family meals or games. There is a seperate sitting room with comfy armchairs and a log fire.

The cottage opens onto a large garden with BBQ and wooden table and chairs. Feel free to walk around the farm or ask for a guided tour. We will help you collect eggs from the chickens. There is always a dog, cat or horse to pet.

We can guarantee plenty of peace and quiet on the farm. However we are well situated for lots to do, although a car is essential. It is only half an hours drive to beautiful historic York, or fascinating

It is only half an hours drive to beautiful historic York, or fascinating Hull the other way. Leeds and Doncaster are not much further away, nor is the beautiful hills of the North Yorkshire moors and coast and the well kept secret the Yorkshire Wolds.

Come and enjoy a warm Yorkshire welcome on our farm. We live in the farm house next door so are always around to ask advice or have a chat.

Ideal for families or couples who want a quiet getaway.

We look forward to welcoming you

Location description from owner

The Yorkshire region

The farm is situated in the fertile Vale of York so we don't have too many hills, great for easy cycling and walking. Although the cottage is rural in its location it is close to good roads such as the M62 allowing easy access to many places of interest.

We tend to get the best of the Yorkshire weather, however we always recommend guests bringing their wellies for walking around the farm in all seasons except perhaps summer.

Selby

Its a great area for doing plenty. In the village of Drax there are some lovely walks that incooperate ponds and farm land. There is also the fascinating power walk that takes you through Drax power station and to the nature reserve.

Goole and Selby are our nearest towns. Goole is the largest inland port in England, the Waterway museum and boat ride is an interesting trip. Selby is a market town ans has a very old Abbey. It is on the American heritage trail because one of its stain glass windows depicts the Washington Family arms that evolved to become the star and stripes of the American Flag.

York is half an hour away, famous for its minster, the shambles, shops, restaurant and museums. The Railway museum should not be missed out, nor should the Yorvik or the Castle Museum.

Just beyond York there are the North York Moors with hills, heather and ancient Abbeys and Castles (Castle Howard and Hemsley) to explore, not forgetting the North York Moors Railway that could take you to heart beat country or fabulous fish and chips in Whitby.

There is the rolling chalk lands of the Wolds, and if you come in March the Kiplingcoates Horse race, the oldest one in England.

Hull is also worth a visit. See the Deep (an under water museum). Other museums are free. Leeds also has its share of great museums such as the medical Thackray museum plus some fab shopping and restaurants.
