Description

At the end of a white-washed row of terraced former quarrymen's cottages, Hause Gill Cottage looks out across the valley below into beautiful Borrowdale, with its delightful walks and scenery. Across the bridge spanning the tumbling beck from high up in Honister, Hause Gill Cottage is approached via a private track up from the tiny hamlet of Seatoller. There are stunningly pretty walks right from the cottage doorstep, with the high fells and oak land woods all around. Approached via the back entrance, a yard with white picket fence leads to the rear door.

The front door, with roses growing up and around is not used. A small lobby off the back door has a bathroom to the rear. The kitchen has a large table for dining, a pantry, cork flooring and plenty of cupboard space. The sitting room is light and airy with windows to the front and side, giving inspiring views across the bubbling beck to the hamlet below and the surrounding fells. A three seater sofa and two armchairs nestle around

“Quite disappointing”

Reviewed 27 Aug 2016

I have stayed at many holiday cottages around the UK at both lower and higher price points and I can honestly say this is the worst I've stayed in. Our daughters bedroom rooms smelt awful after every flush of the upstairs toilet, I did phone them and they did respond by cleaning the trap in the sink which reduced the smell - however keeping the sink trap clean should be part of a routine cleaning schedule. Overall the property is tired and in need of updating to be on a par with other holiday cottages. We did notice that there were new mattresses and clean white bedding in all the bedrooms so I'm hopeful that the management will continue to invest in this properties potential - there's a certain charm to an old cottage and an open fire. Perhaps what is most frustrating is that it would not require a huge amount of money or time to improve the quality of a holiday makers stay. The location of this property is absolutely amazing - a short drive away from your essential amenities in Keswick yet within the Borrowdale valley and Scafell Pike on your doorstep, stunning views and a picturesque gill roars just outside the front door. This was a fantastic holiday destination.

“Lakeland delight - primed for the hills!”

Great location in Seatoller at foot of Honister pass. Slightly tired and dusty inside - but deceptively spacious.Missing a few key kitchen utensils (eg casserole dish!) -and well used mattresses plus slightly dodgy plumbing. We felt it expensive for the quality of accommodation - but overall a good experience with the stunning location a big plus - high fell and valley walks on the doorstep. Watch out for the narrow stone bridge that gives access over the stream to the cottage - it also gave my car a scratch!!
