The Sicily region
Sicily is fantastic island full of History and archeological sites for the many invasions. The weather is for most of the year temperate. From april to late october temperature ranges from 20 c° to 33 c°.Best period to come and visit is from April to November .Places of interest to visit are: Zingaro Park (2 Km.), "tonnara" of scopello, Segesta with termal pool, San Vito lo Capo, the historical Erice, Trapani, Saline in Trapani with the salt museum, , Egadi Islands, Marsala famous for wine and Mothia Island, Ustica island, Palermo, Monreale, Cefalù, Selinunte and Temple's valley of Agrigento. All these places are within an hour drive from the villa.
Sicily is an island full of strong contrasts, a land rich in history and culture, lively, beautiful cities of art, ancient fishermen's villages where time seems to have come to a standstill and amazing natural wonders, beautiful beaches and islands where you can relax surrounded by crystal clear waters. The island is a crossroads for populations who were completely different from one another, who have all left permanent traces of themselves in the island's culture
Castellammare was a fishing town, now is a touristic town with a lot of attractions.Every year on 19 August takes places the feast the Madonna del soccorso that protects the town.
There are a lot of fish restaurants where you can taste fresh fish at low-prices.You can also buy fresh fish directly from the boats in the port when they come back in early mornings at about 7 a.m.
There are also a lot of good pizzerias. In Castellammare you can also taste the local dish Kous-Kous with fish that is a speciality of Trapani area.
Scopello is perhaps the more evocative and colourful place of the entire gulf of Castellammare. It is a small village risen at the end of the 18th century around the "baglio", on a previous arab country house. In the low-lying wonderful cove limited by the stacks and protected by old towers, there is the "tonnara" (tunny-fishing structure), known since a long time ago (it is mentioned in documents of the year 1200); it has worked until few years ago, together with the"baglio", the buildings and the warehouses. You can reach it from Castellammare driving through the state street 187 in the direction of Trapani, deviating at Km 32.4, passing the bay of Guidaloca on which there is a 16th century cylindrical tower. The name of Scopello probably derives from the Greek "scopelos" (rock), from the Latin "scopellum" (rock) and from the arab "iscubul iactus" (high rock). It has been inhabited since the prehistoric period (finds discovered in the caves of the inland document the human presence, starting from the palaeolithic period), the zone has been known since ancient times because of the abundance of tunnies, which were fished in its sea, so much that the Greeks called it "Cetaria", that means "earth of the tunnies".
