A wide veranda surrounds the house with extensive al fresco dining area, barbecue, comfortable seating areas, and table tennis. The house stands in 2.5 acres of mature grounds with many tropical fruit trees for guests to enjoy and a good-sized pool (16'x32') which is serviced 3 times a week. 6-day maid service with cooking/babysitting if required. Gardens are well-maintained, safe for children and toddlers, and are home to many varieties of exotic birds and butterflies. Beaches, restaurents and shops are all within easy reach. The Ambassador's House was built on the site of the original plantation house for the Concordia Estate, a large estate producing cocoa and sugar. Many fragments of European china have been found in the ground around the house and these have been dated to around 1850 indicating that the plantation manager who came from Scotland had his own china shipped from home. Some of the fruit trees date back to the 1960s and are interesting varieties rarely seen nowadays, others have been planted by the owner who is a keen gardener. For anyone interested in plants or birds this place is a source of endless joy.

Further details outdoors
Beautiful mature grounds extending to 2.5 acres. Many species of tropical flowers and fruit trees which attract a wide diversity of birds. Pool has internal and external lighting for evening swimming. Secluded but not isolated, you are perfectly placed for visiting all parts of the island. Many visitors staying in the tourist areas in the west of the island rarely get to see more than a day's trip round the island, but from The Ambassadors House at Windy Edge it is a short drive across the hills to the Caribbean coast where there are many beautiful unspoilt beaches and little fishing villages to explore. Our friendly local naturalist will pick guests up from the house and take you birdwatching in the rainforest to see the dancing Mannakins or the brightly coloured Trogon. There are many other activites including scuba diving and snorkelling around Little Tobago, golf at one of the 2 high quality courses on the island, or a boat trip up the coast with swimming, snorkelling and barbecue on the beach. On the Atlantic coast you can drive up to the far end of the island with spectacular views round every corner, certain beaches on this side are not safe for bathing so take care and follow local advice. For shopping there are several good supermarkets nearby and Scarborough has a wonderfully vibrant market for fruit and vegetables and many other things. From the house you will hear the sound of the Conch shell which the fishermen blow to tell people they have brought in a catch for sale. There is a wide variety of restaurents all within easy reach of the house, and details of these can be found on our website, www.windyedgetobago.co.uk .
Location description from owner
The Trinidad and Tobago region
Tobago is the unspoiled gem of the Caribbean. Set close to Venezuela it is well below the hurricane belt and shares many of the flora and fauna of South America. It contains a very old rain forest reserve which was preserved in the 18th Century to ensure adequate rain supplies for the plantations. The whole island has a good rainfall which ensures that it remains green and fertile with wonderful tropical plants and flowers. People are friendly and the beaches are easily accessible with safe bathing in warm waters.
The area known as Concordia used to be a large cocoa estate in the old plantation days. Now it is a pleasant residential area in the hills about ten minutes from the nearest beach, Little Bacolet Bay. Ambassador's House lies up a drive just off the road across the island to the northern Caribbean coast, where you will find many beautiful beaches, some with small bars, some by a small fishing village. The main town of Tobago, Scarborough is down the hill about a 10-minute drive away. It has a vibrant market and banks, pharmacies, supermarket and post office. A variety of activities and trips are available; rain forest hikes, birdwatching, deep-sea fishing, scuba-diving, snorkeling, sailing, golf and swimming.Restaurents are located all over the island and very accessible from the house, the nearest are the 'Salsa Kitchen' or 'Ciao', both in Scarborough. Phone numbers are in the phone book at the house. The dry season extends from December to June and rainy season June to December. However there is much sun at all times and usually some rain at night during the dry season. Temperature variations between approx. 28 - 38 C.

“An ideal family getaway that isn't far away”
Spacious yet cozy, a place where you can be noisy without disturbing the peace or find a secluded spot whilst everyone else is partying. We had a large group and everyone was comfortably accommodated. The location was very private yet close to all amenities. Just be careful of what's left outside as 'Goldy' would surely get hold of it.
Fantastic garden and so many beautiful plants and flowers. I learnt a lot about palm trees and their magnificent fronds as well as all the exotic plants. The housekepper is simply superb and really cares about you and wants to make sure your holiday is great! If you get a lot of rain as we did the lower slopes of the garden will become very sodden and the access to the house can be a bit traumatic in the rain and the mud but is not a criticism of the owner or her house. Being higher up you suffer from few mosquito bites which is wonderful for overly sensitive people like me. Enjoy feeding the birds your toast crumbs and watch out for the parrots flying past and the amazing land crab spotted in the garden. If you travel with young children you will need to make sure that you go with them to the pool as it is some distance from the house. Tobago is a fantastic island to visit with the locals being the friendliest in the West Indies and from the UK good value for money. Windy Edge is probably better suited to adults rather than families but a wonderful place for wildlife spotting and a haven for photographers. If you have never been to the West Indies this would be a great place to start your experience.
These guests obviously had a great time, their comments were complimentary, they genuinely seem to have loved the place and would recommend it to others; I am disappointed that they only gave us 3 stars, where did we go wrong?
