“Great Place to stay, a good base and a working farm with a great welcome”

Reviewed 15 Apr 2014

Can't fault the cottage or our hosts. The cottage was very clean with comfortable open plan accommodation and lovely comfy beds. It's off the beaten track with no through road which is great for children but at the same time it's only 15/20 minutes from the coast and central Scarborough. You need a car, but then it states that in the description. This is probably going to be key for if you like the place & location. We wanted a base and we got a perfect base. Think of it as such and you'll not be disappointed. There's a garage and mini-supermarket within 1.5 miles. You're kitted with everything you'd expect from a modern kitchen and we cooked every night and didn't want for anything. ( You are spoiled for choice in the area with famous butchers but we can vouch for the butchers at Castle Howard ... awesome.) It's fully open plan so if you have a toddler as we do, kitchen, living, dinging all together on the ground floor suits us, so again, depends on what you want. We can keep an eye on his nibs much easier in open plan areas and still stay together. Janet was great and made us feel very welcome indeed. We have actually already recommended the cottage to my partner's mum and dad. If you want a very comfortable and secure base, off the beaten track but close to coast and dale, then this is a fine place. Recommended.

Thank you for the review so glad you enjoyed your holiday with us we try to make it a 'home from home' so people can go home feeling relaxed

“Peaceful, dog friendly working farm.”

Reviewed 19 Jun 2013

We have had 3 holidays at spikers hill farm and would be happy to return again. Very welcoming owners who are busy working the farm but always have time to talk and give you tips on places to visit (they were kind enough to post something we had left). The cottage itself is very well equipped and very clean and maintained to a hight standard. It is a great base to discover East Yorkshire, we love going out for the day and returning to spend a cosy evening watching a film with our teenage lads. Even though it is in an rural location (but only 4 miles from scarborough) the boys really look forward to going back and seeing the animals etc.It is great to be able to take our dog and she is very welcome on the farm, there are Also some lovely walks around the farm. You will have a very peaceful and relaxing break if you stop here!
