Description from owner

Description

This pretty cottage is Grade II listed with a newer extension offering family sized accommodation. There are two double bedrooms and one twin bedroom. With a new bath and shower room upstairs and a second toilet / sink downstairs. The light, airy layout includes a large kitchen and a large cosy living room with wood & coal burning stove. To the back of the cottage is a long lawned garden with fruit trees and lots of wild flowers. It is fenced and safe for children and looks out onto the water meadows. To the front is another lawned garden and ample parking on the gravel drive.

The cottage is one of three converted from this 16th century farmhouse, many years ago. There are beautiful oak beams in the original rooms.

Surrounded by fields on three sides, the cottage is ideal for a family with children and for nature lovers. You may well glimpse the beautiful white barn owl around the water meadow at the bottom of the garden where you will also see some beautiful Suffolk

There are short, medium and long walks - for all sizes and ages of legs - right from the door.

At night, there's no local light pollution and the sky is often amazingly starry.

Even in winter, with the gorgeous East Anglia light, far-reaching views together with the smell of woodsmoke, make it a perfect getaway.

In a small hamlet, it's a very quiet location. It's an ideal quiet spot as a writer's retreat - now with internet! A car is recommended and there's plenty of room to park on the drive. Bicycles are handy too. The nearest pub is a 20 minute walk across countryside. We can arrange pony & trap transport to and from the pub in the Summer!

5 minutes drive away is the pretty market town of Saxmundham which has many shops including Waitrose and Tesco. Saxmundham is 2 hours by train from London Liverpool Street Station.

The lovely Suffolk coast is 15 minutes drive: Aldeburgh, Orford, Dunwich are in easy reach.

The Alde Valley is known locally as a particularly special area. Fantastic produce is available all around: fresh eggs, fish, meat and veg from nearby places including Friday Street Farm Shop. We leave basic groceries for people to use and replace to save you starting your stay with a massive shop!

Location description from owner

The East Anglia region

The Alde Valley is a particularly beautiful, relatively undiscovered part of the lovely county of Suffolk - a local's secret! The gently undulating countryside is a world away from everything and yet only 2 hours from London. The sea is nearby and the coastline very unspoilt. You'd have to look hard to find a tacky coastal town with arcade games and fish and chip shops. There's a wealth of things to do, to do with nature, the outdoors, culture especially music, sports and food and drink.Have a look at our blog for some local snaps and websites of attractions: http://watermeadowcottage.tumblr.com/East Anglia is often dry and sunny when the rest of the country is not!
