THE DORDOGNE GIVES YOU A CAMERA SHOT AT EVERY TURN
The spring months are very pleasant with everything coming into bloom the weather can be changeable but it is perfect for sightseeing without the crowds. Easter is a time for flower festivals and egg hunts, many of the chateaux open up the grounds for these events a great day for the kids.
June is the start of all the fun and festivals, such as the music festival in June and local events to kick the Summer into gear..again a perfect time for sight seeing with out the crowds and enjoying the river although a little warmer with temperatures usually around the mid 20's but can be warmer.
July and August - this time of year is the busiest, but also the time for the fetes with one to go to nearly everyday of the week, from wine fetes, bread fetes, strawberry fetes etc + the theatre festival and Fete Nationale, markets galore, art galleries, canoeing etc etc... I will let you know of any events for your stay... The climate is very warm during this period can get up to mid 30's, so bring plenty of sun cream and sun hats..
Sultry September...the crowds have gone but the weather is good, not as many fetes but tons to see and do...
As autumn kicks in the quietness takes hold and lazy walks through charming country villages and stunning views perfect for photos and roaming the markets..
SARLAT : Sarlat dates back to around the 9th Century and some say before , but it was probably at the beginning of the 9th Century, with the founding of a Benedictine abbey that the real history of the city began. As time went on Sarlat evolved even coming under English rule for 10 years in 1360.! following repeated episodes of plague, famine & flooding and local uprising - Sarlat remained unchanged - indeed forgotten and slowly fell into dis-repair, totally unsuited to modern day living with narrow streets & lack of sanitation. But this handicap was to become an asset when the city was one of the first to benefit from the Malrux law of 4th August 1962. This law on protected areas quickly led to extensive renovation work. Today, this restoration work carries on an architectural heritage that remains the main treasure of Sarlat, indeed Sarlat is often used as a backdrop for Films such as Les Miserables and holds 'The Sarlat Film Festival' each November.
