Location description from owner

The Turkish Aegean Coast region

On the south west coast of Turkey where the Aegean and Mediterranean seas collide in a profusion of colours, sights and sounds giving it the name the Turquoise coast. Surrounded by the wooded Toros mountain ranges, rugged rocky outcrops and beautiful beaches, this scenic and historical area is packed with fascinating natural, archaeological and cultural gems which offers both bustling market towns and secluded peaceful idylls away from the crowds.

This area of Turkey is renowned for its luscious unspoilt landscape, where orange and pomegranate groves abound in the valleys and long sandy beaches stretch as far as the eye can see, framed by the beautiful, often snow-capped Taurus mountains. There are many areas of historical interest within striking distance such as the ancient cities of Ephesus, Patara and Caunos for example. For the more adventurous there are opportunities to go white water rafting, scuba diving, Jeep safari driving, quad biking and much, much more!

There are many interesting boat trips or you can also visit the ancient ruins of Knidos and Kaunos or visit the remains of the Roman city Hierapolis and bathe in the city's thermal waters or spend a while basking at the calcified waterfalls of Pamukkale, near to the city of Dixizli. Alternatively. just relax in this sun soaked stunning corner of Turkey.

Sarigerme

The village of Sarigerme is a short walk from the Villa where you are still able to catch a glimpse of real Turkish life but still be able to enjoy the many shops, excellent restaurants and bars and chat with the friendly locals. With a tradition of agriculture, the region produces cotton, citrus fruits and vegetables. A short walk away is 7 km of pine fringed beach with its shallow waters.

The local towns of Dalaman and Ortaca are just 15 minutes away by car or you can take the little dolmus buses. The larger resort town of Dalyan is just 20 mins drive away and is overlooked by the imposing rock tombs of the Lycian kingdom cut high into the mountainside above the town. It the also the breeding ground for the loggerhead turtles and you can watch the turtles swim or visit the famous mud baths and hot springs of Sultaniye and the Iztuzu beach.

Just 50 mins away in Fethiye you can climb the ancient Lycian rocks tombs or explore the stunning national park surrounding Oludeniz with its glorious beaches, sparkling blue lagoon and fabulous walking opportunities in the pine clad mountains which frame the bay.

The market in Sarigerme is on a Wednesday and is a great opportunity to mix with the locals and try the fantastic array of locally grown produce or just browse for gifts and souvenirs. There are several tour operators in Sarigerme offering a whole range of day trips and informative tours to suit everyone at very reasonable prices.

Ortaca market in on a Friday and Fethiye which has the largest market in the region, takes place on Tuesdays and is well worth a visit. Here the tourists can mingle with the locals as they sell everything from colourful handmade pottery, to aromatic herbs and spices. The separate fish market is open everyday. Here you can buy freshly caught fish and seafood which can then be prepared and cooked for you at one of the restaurants in the square. Fethiye harbour offers daily boat trips and a ferry service to the Greek island of Rhodes.

Gocek is an international yachting harbour and resort about 25 minutes drive from Sarigerme, offering vibrant nightlife with a selection of sophisticated bars and restaurants.

The bustling resort of Dalyan is well worth a visit with its ancient rock tombs and the nearby mud baths at Koyzegi Lake. Take a riverboat or drive through the pomegranate fields to idyllic Iztuzu Beach where you can see the nesting sites of the giant Loggerhead turtles which breed here between May and August. Vital conservation work is being done here and you can see injured turtles being nursed back to health before being returned to the wild.

“Wonderful peaceful place with a fantastic view”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2016

Arriving at the villa up quite a steep hill we were very pleased to find such a wonderful setting for such a lovely villa. Yes the hill is quite steep to drive up, but it's easy to park outside the villa once you get the nack of it. The villa itself comes fully equipped with washing machine and dishwasher with very a vey good quality feel throughout the villa. With all bedrooms with ensuites there would be no problem with two couples sharing. We went with my family and had a sea view each to wake up to each day. To look over the bay each morning and then going for an early swim is something quite wonderful, especially in such a peaceful, not overlooked position. The pool is fantastic, lovely and clear and big enough for a family of four to use all together. From the pool you have a very nice place to sunbathe on an ample amount of loungers and shade if you want it. The pool area gets sun all day and is like a bath for that lovely evening swim. The village of Sarigerme has enough restaurants to suit most tastes, but there is also a great beach and excursions to the places that are not to be missed directly from the village. Don't bother with the Wednesday market as there are some great places to go, with much more choice. Dalyan is a must for a visit, but take an excursion to visit the mud baths also, you won't be disappointed. A car is a must to go to the surrounding area, but the airport is only 20 min away, so a taxi is a cheap option to get to the villa, but I would recommend a car. Thanks goes to Diane for being on tap for my questions and any assistance needed. This was a great place to go for a family holiday, and normally I don't go to the same place twice, but the villa was somewhere I would love to go to again.

Thank you for your kind comments, I am so pleased you enjoyed your holiday at Mayfair Villa. You and your family will be very welcome for a return visit anytime in the future.

“If you like cats, you'll love this villa”

Reviewed 13 Oct 2015

Unfortunately I'm allergic to them and the little blighters are everywhere! We had to eat inside and keep the doors shut to keep them out of the villa and away from our food but then they'd line up mewing to be let in and fed. All they got is a bucket of water chucked at them from me (sorry, cat lovers!). Unfortunately, one snuck in as we were leaving and we didn't realise. Apologies to the owners who had to clear up its mess the next day. YUCK! Note to self: check out the local cat population before booking any villa in future! The villa is well equipped, very comfortable and has lovely views. We arrived late at night after heavy rain and had to pick up the key at a bar in town and then find our way up a precipitous mountain in the dark. It was SCARY - and then we couldn't work out how the key combination worked. We felt like we were on an episode of Crystal Maze! An hour later, back to the bar where someone followed us back up and let us in. If you book this villa, insist that someone takes you there and gets you in. Unfortunately for us, the Internet and TV wasn't working for the whole of our first week, (due to a thunderstorm) which was important for us and when we woke up on the 6th day to no power or water, we felt it was time for us to leave. The owners were very understanding and refunded our 2nd week. I think we were very unlucky after reading all the other excellent reviews.

Oh dear, another old couple at Mayfair Villa!! Yes these guests were very unlucky as all the other excellent reviews confirm. Prior to their arrival an electric storm damaged the broadband signal over many areas in Turkey. Regrettably it was nearly Bayram, a 3 day celebration (like our Christmas), when lots of businesses and services are closed or unobtainable. It was for this reason that the villa key was with a friend in the village, who was trying desperately to arrange for an engineer to look at the broadband prior to the start of the celebrations. Due to the widespread scale of the problem, an engineer had not arrived in time. We did request that the guests were escorted to the villa and regret this did not happen but a quarter turn of one key to gain access is not that tricky!! I was 2 hours away in Kalkan on a holiday myself but this guest rang me complaining continually spoiling my break. Unfortunately, there was no internet coverage in Kalkan either and the problem was not one I could resolve and although willing to purchase a dongle for them, the shops were closed until the end of Bayram.. The guest became rude, abusive and demanding when I could not deliver the dongle and Sarigerme suffered a short power cut. I invited them to leave and they did thank goodness and we were able to return to our beautiful villa for a few days before the next guests arrived. A joy after the very unequipped accommodation we stayed in at Kalkan. There are a couple of cats in the area and they occasionally come to the villa for a drink or a comfy seat, surely we cannot begrudge them that. The sneaky cat only left a few cat hairs inside although she had been without food or water for 24 hours bless her. Could all potential guests please read all our other 5* reviews and consider Mayfair Villa for your next holiday in beautiful Turkey.

“A fantastic, relaxing and well equipped villa with views to die for!”

Reviewed 23 Aug 2015

Myself, my wife and two kids stayed at the Mayfair mid July, it was brilliant! We have visited sarigerme many times but normally stay in the first choice holiday village, on this occasion we decided to try a villa. It was the best decision we could have made! The villa is set up in the hills which gives it great views, it has everything you could need. All bedrooms have ensuites and balconies for the before mentioned views. The pool is a good size and a welcome relief when cooling down from the heat. A car is recommended due to the three steep roads you need to climb to get to it, having said that we didn't and actually came to like the climb! Unless it was mid day sun! There's a good team of people to look after you in sarigerme and Diane the owner was in contact before and throughout our stay to help with anything we needed. A few bits I would recommend, mosquito spray, we saw a lot of them mainly when eating in the resort and thanked our stars we had the repellent on! Another insect problem we had was with wasps, there were quite a few buzzing round the pool from the day we arrived, they didn't seem to bother us till the last couple of days when they seemed to target me and my wife? A good Raid spray would have helped us! Naurals supermarket on the 'main strip' was a great place for essentials and Harry the younger owner is great he offers to deliver your shopping and does so promptly with no extra charge. We even sent him an order on Facebook to save a phonecall and he got back to us in 10 mins! A great guy! Eating out is definitely recommended, the people in sarigerme are very friendly and give great service, our favourite restaurants were the joker bar and next door the paradise. At the bottom of the strip there is another restaurant with a big yellow sign (can't remember the name) but this place was also very good. I'm sure there's many more bits to say but trust me when I say the villa is fantastic, if you want a relaxing and comfortable stay in an extremely well equipped villa then look no further. We are now looking at next year and will most likely book here again!

Thanks Pete for taking the time to post a review, other potential guests find them so helpful. You will be very welcome should you wish to return in the future. PS there is a can of Raid in the kitchen cupboard. I am also taking some tennis racket bug zappers, the last lot were confiscated from our hand luggage, they should help.

“best villa best sea view.”

Reviewed 25 Aug 2014

the mayfair villa was super clean ,loved the sea view ,we really enjoined our stay ,one small thing i would like to point out is that we stayed 2 weeks and no mid week cleaning of the villa was done ie,sheet changing and over all cleaning of the villa which we are normally use to when we stayed in other villas, but that was fine the villa was clean when we arrived and we done our best to keep it that way,but would be nice if your guest staying 2 weeks to arrange for cleaning and changing of bed sheets on the 2nd week :).

Thank you for taking the time to post a review for Mayfair Villa I would just say that, as their is a washing machine, washing powder, fabric conditioner, washing line and pegs provided completely free of charge previous quests have been happy to wash their own bedding and towels throughout their stay. In addition, cleaning equipment and products are also provided free of charge to enable you to do some cleaning should you wish to. I hope other than this you enjoyed your stay, the villa, the views and meeting the friendly locals. You will of course be more than welcome to stay again.

“Fantastic villa, view and ammenities”

Reviewed 14 Aug 2014

The villa has fantastic views of the sea, it is large and airy with a really good layout for the five of us. It is well equipped with everything you need and had a feel of being brand new, definitely the best villa we have ever stayed in. The pool was brilliant, spent many a night just sitting in the garden with a BBQ going and a glass of wine. Gulsen the property manager based just down the road was really helpful with anything we needed and the pool man came nearly every morning to check and clean it. The village just down the hill was full of very friendly people, there is a wide choice of food in the restaurants and shops for all your needs. The market on a Wednesday is great fun, haggling with the stall holders and you must try the pancakes on market day they are great.

Thanks Rob for taking the time to give us a great review. We would love to have you back to stay at Mayfair Villa anytime.

“Excellent accommodation, stunning views”

Reviewed 2 Sep 2012

Knowing we wanted to return to Sarigerme we searched available villas in this area. So pleased we chose to book Mayfair Villa. It was absolutely stunning just like the photo's on the website. Very clean, lots of nice extra touches, sheer luxury and everything you could possibly need. We arrived on a night flight, we were welcomed by a young local man who handed over the keys. The fridge was laden with the basic essentials which Diane (the owner) had previously arranged for us (this was a really nice touch, especially the ice cold beers!! ). Prior to going out to Mayfair villa Diane and I had spoken and exchanged several emails, she gave us lots of helpful hints and tips and even throughout the stay we weren't forgotten about, the support network was fantastic. I have to say that the villa is set on the side of a steep hill which could be off putting for some but this is why it enjoys such fantastic views, although not ideal, don't be put off by this as we hired a small jimmy jeep and drove from the airport to the villa without too much of a problem. Parking was a little tight until we got used to it, once we had driven up and down to Sarigerme village a couple of times it got easier. If driving is not for you then Taxi's are readily available at a very reasonable cost. For us it was definitely worth hiring a car, Sarigerme is basically a one street village with lots of shops, bars and restaurants to satisfy most needs (Dolphin restaurant excellent and was definitely our favourite in the village). Sarigerme is a really good base as it is quite central to other towns and villages to go out and about to. We spent our days having unforgettable leisurely breakfast looking out over stunning views, a few hours chilling/sunbathing around the pool (fantastic) and then most days drove out in the afternoons to different places - Gocek, Fethiye, Dalyan ,Ortaca, Dalaman. Fethiye fish market is definitely worth a visit and so is Turtle beach boat trips from Dalyan. Dalyan is located on a river packed with restaurants and bars, definitely plenty going on in the evening. All in all a really good break away would definitely consider returning. Diane is a lovely approachable person, nothing is too much trouble for her.

Many thanks for your kind comments. You will always be welcome should you choose to stay at Mayfair Villa again.

“Fantastic Villa”

Reviewed 21 Nov 2011

This villa is exactly as you see on the photos. The views are fantastic from around the pool in the day which catches the sun all day long, and great from the balconies too. The views you see on the pics are genuine views! The swimming pool was great for our kids (age 4 & 12), but when we fancied a change of scene they loved to go to the beach on the beach tractor also (park your car in the village 1minute away and catch the FREE tractor to the beach where there's a little zoo). This villa has everything you need to cook in, chill out, watch tv etc but is only a 1minute drive to the village if you want to eat out. I would definately recommend this villa, it is beautiful!

Thank you so much Sarah for taking the time to review for us. Hope you enjoyed your time at the villa and hope we get to meet you on your next visit. Diane & Robert Scott
