The Central Portugal region

The Costa da Prata (Silver Coast) is a long strip of land that stretches along the coast, beginning north of Lisbon and ending just before Porto, famous for its long sandy beaches with beautiful towns and villages. This region of Portugal is,

A year-round sportsman's paradise with its bounty of mountains, forests, glacial lakes, spring waters and the Atlantic Coast.

Steeped in history and tradition boasting many fishing villages, medieval towns, monasteries, convents, churches, castles, and archaeological sites, including the 12th-century Abbey of Santa Maria in Alcobaa, where the tragic love story of King Pedro I and his beloved Ins de Castro outshines even that of Romeo and Juliet. This region is also the setting of the many fierce battles that defined the country as a nation. The region has lots of colourful military history and it was here that Napoleon was defeated in battle.

One of the most economically developed regions in the country, home for famous traditional art treasures, such as its porcelain and crystal, as well as its gastronomy, strongly influenced by the sea and counterbalanced by its tasty Bairrada wines and mouth-watering sweets

Renouned for the kindness and welcoming of its people, so enjoy their traditions and festivals.

So for a real taste of Portugal, experience the Silver Coast!

Sao Martinho do Porto

Sao Martinho do Porto, a small traditional Portuguese fishing village, sits on the edge of a spectacular natural shell shaped bay protected from the Atlantic, so the warm, calm and safe swimming water is perfect for families & ideal for learning to windsurfing & sail. The beach is considered to be one of Portugal’s top 10. The palm lined waterfront, has recently refurbished limestone and marble pavements, granite roads and a dedicated cycle track, and is lined with traditional cafes, bars & seafood restaurants with amazing views.

The village has maintained its marvellous character and much of the older historic parts still have cobbled streets. You will also find a frequent fish and fresh vegetables market and a monthly open air antiques fair.

The area is still very much un-spoilt and traditional, and you could be one of the select few to discover the natural beauty and charm of the real Portugal. Come and stay and explore the stunning natural beauty for yourself!

“Lovely apartment, convenient location, pretty unspoilt resort”

Reviewed 15 May 2013

First trip to the SIlver Coast, slightly out of season which meant it was peaceful and tranquil with miles of empty beaches. Plenty to see and do in the area, from walks along unspoilt coastline, monasteries, castles, caves and even dinosaur footprints. Sao Martinho do Porto is an unspoilt resort - although can get busy in the height of summer we were told. We were amazed at how little we spent on eating out, the wine was good and cheap too. The apartment was immaculate, well equipped and a 10 min walk to the restaurants and pretty bay. The supermarket is a 5 min walk away. Train station a short walk away too. Easy to access the main roads to explore further afield. Would highly recommend staying in this apartment and this area.

“Lovely spacious modern apartment”

Reviewed 9 Apr 2013

We spent a week at this apartment in March 2013. The apartment was very clean, spacious and modern. The location was excellent with plenty of cafes and restaurants within walking distance as well as a large supermarket which had a great cafe. The pool area also looked lovely but unfortunately we were not able to use it because of the weather. Booking was straightforward and Kevin was very quick to respond to my e-mails prior to our arrival. A very enjoyable stay for the whole family.

“Perfect location, stunning apartment, clean and spacious”

Reviewed 7 Jan 2013

A group of us visited in September 2012. The peak season had quietened off in the week, with the Portuguese visiting at the weekends. Its crab season- yummy. The apartment entrance is a lovely marble- as is the rest of the building and apartment, the pool area modern and sleek. The apartment has all the mod cons, useful beach kit in the cupboard on the balcony so you dont need to buy when your out there and lovely clean sheets and towels. Im in love with the marbles in the bathrooms. We had a wonderful stay with amazing food at a number of the restuarants around the tranquil bay. The weather was still bikini/short weather and we came back tanned and totally relaxed. Thank you
