The England region

With accessible mountains, beautiful lakes and tarns, woodlands and moorlands, the Lake District is a haven, not only for outdoor enthusiasts, but for anyone who loves peace and beauty.

The changing seasons bring with them different highlights – spring is a time of new life with baby lambs, Wordsworth's immortalised daffodils, and walks through bluebell woods. Summer brings its own magic, either lazing by a lake or enjoying the view from the high mountain peaks. Beautiful autumn colours turn the landscape a breathtaking russet and gold. Winter is dazzling with the frosty fells and crystal lakes, giving you the chance to make the most of an open fire and a seasonal glass of mulled wine.

The beautiful lakes with dramatic fells rising from the shores are part of a great experience that includes excellent local food and fantastic activities. A holiday here will live long in the memory and have you dreaming for more.

Santon Bridge

Wasdale is one of the Lake District’s more remote areas, whilst still offering an array of things to do. It boasts England’s highest mountain, deepest lake, and one of its smallest churches. The route from Wasdale head up to Scafell Pike is one of the most popular paths, travelled by thousands every year. There are also many other impressive fells in the area, and the valleys of Eskdale and Ennerdale, as well as the coast, are within easy reach. Depending on your tastes, you can try outdoor pursuits (climbing, canoeing, and ghyll scrambling), hop on the Eskdale to Ravengalss miniature steam railway or visit Muncaster Castle, with its beautiful gardens, Hawk & Owl Centre, and family-friendly events.

“An wonderfully equipped house for a relaxing family holiday”

Reviewed 8 Sep 2012

I travelled with my family, my parents and my sister and her family. Mill Cottage was ideal for our needs. It is spacious, comfortable (loved the underfloor heating) and equipped to an extremely high standard. Loved the two living rooms; the quiet location; the comfortable couches and the huge open kitchen/dining room. It was the best self catering cottage we have stayed in, and we hope to be back. Thank you!
