Description from owner

This gorgeous villa is situated on a private road close to the village of Valverde, an easy, twenty minute drive south by car or taxi from Alicante airport and only ten minutes from the nearest beach at the seaside town of Santa Pola - the minute we walked through the villa gates, we fell in love with the sense of peace and spaciousness of both the house and the garden and everyone who has visited it, has felt the same way.

One of the things that attracted us to this part of the Costa Blanca is that visitors to the area are mainly Spanish - more paella than fish and chips and the coast offers miles of beautiful, sandy beaches, yet both Elche and Alicante are close enough for an evening in the city.

The villa has been renovated over the last eleven years to provide a very high standard of accomodation and is just as perfect for a couple as it is for a family. With garden walks, a boule court, plenty of space for just being quiet and excellent space for al fresco dining, it will surprise

We now have a brand new 40" Smart TV, FreeSat HD TV (BBC, Channel 4 and ITV HD channels), Wireless Broadband Internet connectivity, DVD player (and a big pile of DVD's), iPhone or iPod player and loads of music CD's for your pleasure.

It is perfectly possible to spend a week in the villa and not feel bored - sunbathing by the large, private pool, relaxing in the shade under the palm trees in the garden, or, as the sun sets, walking the gravel paths through the orange, lemon and pomegranate groves that surround the villa.

However, if you like to go out, the surrounding endless sandy beaches of the Costa Blanca, the old towns in Alicante and Elche, the Moors and Christian Fiestas with their colour and passion and the warmth of a summers evening in a bar or restaurant are not to be missed.

We hope that you too will enjoy your stay and feel the benefit of a well deserved holiday because of the care and attention that we have brought to our villa.

The Valenciana region

Alicante is a mediterranean city on the east coast of Spain, the capital of the Province of Alicante in the south of the Valencian Community and set in the middle of the Costa Blanca. It is also a historic Mediterranean port with a population of 334,418 in 2010, ranking as the second-largest Valencian city. Including nearby municipalities, the Alicante conurbation was populated by 458,843 residents and the population of the metropolitan area (including Elche and satellite towns) was 769,284, ranking as the eighth-largest metropolitan area of Spain.

Santa Pola

Santa Pola is a small fishing and holiday town that lies just twenty kilometres south of Alicante and is very easily reachable either by car on the National highway N-332 or by air when landing at the El Altet Airport just 15 kilometres away. It is more paella than fish and chips with a mainly spanish population that grows in size in the summer with many visitors from Madrid.

Santa Pola quickly takes you back to Roman times. It was here where the Portus Illicitanus, the Roman ruins, were found. The Roman House of the Palmeral which was built during the Low Imperial and the Roman factory for pickling and salting fish from the 4th century BC are also clear signs of this era.

It was the most prosperous fishing village on the Costa Blanca and still lands some of the biggest Spanish fish catches, but today this has been somewhat overtaken by tourism. The harbour offers a wonderful venue for an evening visit with fresh fish to buy, multiple restaurants and an evening drink and stroll along the harbour and sea front.

Santa Pola is built around the Renaissance Castle-Fortress built in the 16th century to defend the town from pirate attacks. This building is found in the city centre and has a military appearance with a wonderful calm square at its centre.

It houses the magnificent Archaeological Museum where you can feast your eyes and admire Iberian and Roman findings. Along with this, the Fishing Museum with a rich selection of maritime objects and a fascinating aquarium

There is a Safari Park in walking distance to the Villa in Valverde which has a children's park, playing area and a go-kart track. Before you enter the Safari Park there is a small cafe which serves egg and bacon to die for and another restaurant further along the lane that borders the Park.

If you can bear to tear yourselves away from the pool, there are some very nice sandy town beaches in Santa Pola itself and the beach at Playa Lissa has some great bars and restaurants where you can eat and watch the young guns windsurf and kitesurf. At the far end of Playa Lissa (to the right as you look at the sea) is a place to hire and learn windsurfing and kitesurfing but park before you leave the tarmaced road. Similarly, there are wonderful beaches at about five kilometres to the east of Santa Pola (including the magnificent Carabassie Beach) below Gran Alcant, including a naturist section for those wishing for nude swimming and sunbathing.

There are really lovely sandy beaches set in pine forests if you go south to La Marina and Guardamar and beyond. Here are the beaches of El Pinet, Les Pesqueres, La Marina and El Rebollo, where clear waters and fine sand provide excellent swimming, which can be combined with pleasant strolls among the pine groves flanking the beach. As you make your way across the salt water lakes, notice the beautiful pink flamingos to the right.

Guardamar harbour also does boat trips and has a Sunday market.

The Nature Reserves - The villa is within ten minutes drive of two nature reserves - the salt lake nature reserve and the palm tree reserve. This area offers a marvellous landscape with a very special ecosystem at the lagoon of El Fondo.

Inland from Santa Pola is the small city of Elche - you will know immediately that you are coming close because all the roads leading to Elche are lined with palm trees and there are a lot of signs proudly announcing that this city was named part of the World Heritage in 2001 for its Palmeral, the “Huerto del Cura” and for its Mistery Festival which takes place over two evenings in August.

Ever since Iberian times, Elche was an important centre of civilization as we can clearly see with the impressive statue of the Dama de Elche ( The Elche Lady ) which was discovered in 1897 and is now found in the National Archaeological Museum in Madrid.

“Beautiful well equiped villa, stunning pool, gardens and interior in a gorgeous location. This villia is a must.”

Reviewed 4 Sep 2015

I booked the villa a year ago to take my Husband, 2 children, Father in Law & Mum. This villa is absolutely stunning. I dealt with the owner Michael who provided great accurate instructions and advice. This has to have been my most relaxing holiday. It's in a very Spanish location which was ideal. We could BBQ or eat out, the choice was ours. Supermarkets were really cheap, we used the Mercadona which had everything from a fresh butcher to a fish monger. There are loads of areas to the villa where we could relax. Pool was amazing and well looked after. Everything we needed was catered for and we would go back again and again. It felt like we were leaving our home when we left we were that engaged with the villa. Thanks so much for such a lovey 2 weeks away.

“Good as ever”

We have been to the property a number of times and always have a great time and this year was no exception. The location is only 10/15 mins from the airport but not under the flight path, 10 mins from the beach and no further for a host of nice restaurants, you will need a car. The area around Santa Pola/Elche is very much a Spanish resort and there are no "English beach bars" or loutish behaviour, but plenty to do, water park (30 mins drive), zoo (walking distance), a new water ski simulator, etc.. The villa itself has everything you could possibly need for a two week holiday, we love the pool at all hours of the day and night, I personally love the garden nice shaded area's for those hot afternoons to relax. The two BBQ's were well used and we never ate inside at all. We can never fault the home or the area and is a great place for all ages to have a superb family holiday.

“Simmonds Raffo villa gets better and better”

Reviewed 9 Jul 2015

This lovely villa has been made even more comfortable with gorgeous cushions in the lounge area and really smart patio furniture (perfect for relaxing in with those chilled G&Ts while waiting for the fish bought from the splendid Santa Pola harbourside fish market to be barbecued). The villa's gardens are delightful to wander around in with interesting plants including a sweet path lined with lemon and orange trees. Santa Pola and nearby Gran Alcant have seen a fair bit of positive development since our last visit and we enjoyed several excellent meals out locally. Trips to Guadalest and Elche's lovely Huerta del Cura, both return visits for me did not disappoint. Lovely villa, great spot, easy to get to!

What a beautiful villa! The journey from the airport really was on 13 minutes away!! We wanted for nothing, we arrived late evening to find wine, cheese, bread amongst other goodies! I would rate this as the best villa my friend and I have stayed in. Pool and gardens were stunning, the villa too was immaculate and had everything you could possibly require . We will be back next year without a doubt . Thank you!!!

“Large, well-equipped villa in great location with lovely pool and gardens.”

Raffo Villa is a large villa situated just a few miles from Alicante in a quiet residentail area. The large grounds and capacious interior are ideally suited for large families or groups of friends. All age groups will enjoy the comfort of the villa and delight in the exceptionally large and well-stocked gardens, a real feature of this property. The pool is well maintained and ideal for adults and children alike. The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped and there are several delightful outside dining areas. Parking is easy and the villa is very secure. Nearby attractions include Santa Pola, Alicante, Elche and the Beaches of the Costa Brava. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return!

“Exceptional pool, and very helpful owners”

Reviewed 29 Sep 2014

We were very impressed, not just by the size of the villa as it was just the two of us staying in this four bed monster but also the amazing pool, by far in our time of renting villa's, the best pool we have ever found. The owners have a policy of asking the guest to PLEASE wash down before getting into the pool so not to have the need to over chlorinate it leaving you swimming in skin damaging bleach, it is also maintained twice a week, hence its lovely water. The villa is a real must for large families or groups of friends, or even like ourselves just two people desiring to to indulge themselves. The master bedroom again was very big had lovely views over a very extensive and pretty garden, which in turn is maintained by a gardener. In fairness the bed was very unforgiving but maybe that was just us, we do prefer a wider and softer bed and something we will remember to ask when renting our next villa. We never meet with the owners but they could not do enough for us even emailing things of interest whilst we were there as they offer free WiFi, meaning we could keep in touch with home and ask for help should we have needed it. Every morning I picked fresh figs from the tree to have with breakfast, they where so delouse and already I miss them so much. The location for us was perfect near enough to town if thats what you want, but in the country surrounded by farms, we loved it. We also received a very nice welcome pack to tied us over until we could reach the shops and stock up for ourselves. It is a brave person who rents their home hoping those who visit will respect and care for it as they would do their own home. A few things we noted had wear and tare, but by far as very experienced renters of villa's this one comes out near the top of our personal rating..

“Superb”

Reviewed 24 Jul 2014

This is our second visit to the villa and once again not disappointed in any way. We took three teenage children and an 18 month old baby girl. The house itself has lots of space, very cool downstairs and aircon upstairs and very very well kitted out, we wanted for nothing the whole two weeks. The outside has the pool (grandaugher loved it, we all did) and huge garden area with palm trees for shade when needed. The pool is well maintained always very clean, outside shower, sitting area and ample sun beds. The garden has a large grass area and a further landscaped section with olive, lemon and fig trees and all well maintained. There are two outside BBQ's, covered area's for eating outside and a garage to keep the car cool. We spent many a full day at the home, relaxing, swimming and enjoying the warm evenings sat outside. You do need a car, its only 15 mins from the airport (but not under flight path) and about the same to Santa Pola where there are nice beaches, restaurants and some shopping. We love the area, it's not in a "tourist trap" lots of locals/Spanish holiday in the area, eating out was very reasonable and we thought food and drink from the supermarkets were cheaper than home. The Rio Safari zoo is a ten minute walk away, (though you wouldn't know it from the home) the grandaugher loved to see the flamingo's and Peacocks at the entrance when we walked down before it opened. Tip if you want to go we went at 1030 when it opened stayed till lunch time came home for the afternoon and went back at 5 till 7pm when it was cooler, the shows were almost empty and the animals a lot more active than the height of the day. We would certainly have no hesitation in going back again, if you are looking for somewhere to relax, in comfort and quality away from a town or lots of other people this is the place to go.

“Wonderful villa - certainly recommended!”

Reviewed 22 Apr 2014

We absolutely love this villa. This is our second time - and it is truly a home from home. Our daughter loves that fact that we can walk to the zoo. It is ideally located for Santa Pola, but nicely away from all the mayhem of the town center. The villa is a traditional Spanish style, which is tastefully furnished and the gardens are lush and mature. We had a great time, and would highly recommend Simmons Raffo villa!

“Would highly recommend to everyone”

Reviewed 16 Oct 2013

A beautiful property set in a peaceful location, what more could we want. We didn't want for anything during our stay apparent from food (although the welcome basket kept us going) and with the supermarket only a short drive away this was not a stress. I stayed with my husband and 1 year old and also my parents, there was ample space for us all. There is always a part of the outside terrace in the shade and in the sun so it suited us all. We enjoyed walking through the garden and our little girl enjoyed smelling the oranges and lemons. We eat our dinners in different locations outside as all areas were lit and felt safe and cosy. The local village is lovely and the shop has a bakery and butcher if you didn't want to drive into santa Pola. We loved Santa Pola and enjoyed the restaurants and beaches, it was very clean and just had a good atmosphere about it. We will defiantly be looking to stay again in the near future and would recommend to anyone.
