We are located In West-Central Mexico, near the Laguna de Santa Maria del Oro, an unspoilt crater lake about 2 km in diameter at an altitude of 730 meters. The lake is surrounded by steep forested mountains that rise about 300m above the lake. Winter weather is normally sunny and dry, with temperatures more moderate than at the coast. This area abounds in birds and butterflies. There is easy walking around the lake and more challenging hiking in the surrounding mountains. You may swim in the clear waters of the lake and rent kayaks at Koala Bungalows. There is fishing for bass and perch. We are approximately 50km SE of Tepic, 210km NE of Puerto Vallarta and 190km NW of Guadalajara and 20km via a good paved road from the turnoff to Santa Maria del Oro at km 195 on the main highway Mex15 between Tepic and Guadalajara.
You may make day trips to a variety of nearby places of interest such as the Ceboruco volcano, the picturesque colonial town of Jala, the archaeological zone of Los Toriles at Iztlan del Rio, the Agua Milpa dam, which is renown for the best bass fishing in Mexico; and Tepic, the capital of Nayarit.
I have two bicycles that you may use to visit nearby waterfalls and scenic viewpoint.
