Description

This luxury 5* apartment is located on the 'Melia' Tortuga Beach and Spa Resort, only a few steps from the beautiful Ponta Preta beach, with its crystal clear waters and tropical beaches. This apartment is the only one on the resort that has a combination of a private balcony, (most have a shared balcony), located on the 1st floor (more privacy), 2 bathrooms, faces south (sunshine all day) and is in a nice quiet position on the resort.

The resort has its own restaurants, including an Italian, Mediterranean, beach bar/restaurant, pool bar/restaurant serving fresh fish and meat. However, we recommend trying the many excellent restaurants in the local town of Santa Maria as they are all very good and very well priced.

Live music/entertainment every evening. Private spa and free gym. 2 large swimming pools with a swim-up bar. There are ample sunbeds both around the pool and on the beach (free). The resort is a secure gated community with a 24 hour concierge service.

Large lounge/dining room furnished to a very high standard in a contemporary design with leather suites and solid mahogany furniture. 42" HD flat screen TV with satellite and DVD in lounge and a further 32 inch TV in main bedroom. Wi-Fi internet available free in the main resort areas, but chargeable in the apartment. Cleaning/laundry and air-con are all included. Egyptian soft luxury towels and bed linen. Beach towels are not provided.

Further details outdoors

If you like adventure, then hire a quad bike and visit one of the many sand dunes or beaches that the island has to offer or why not try windsurfing, kite surfing or scuba diving. Deep sea fishing, catamaran trips or whale/dolphin watching are also available on the island. The resort has its own windsurfing/kite surfing hire and tuition facilities.

The Ilha do Sal region

Cape Verde is only 5.5 hours from the UK with no time difference, therefore no jet lag! The international airport is only a 15 minute taxi ride to the apartment (12 Euros), therefore hiring a car is not essential as most of the facilities are within walking distance. Taxis are plentiful on the resort, in Santa Maria and also at the airport. The resort also provide a shuttle bus that runs several times a day to the local town of Santa Maria.

Santa Maria

The quaint little town of Santa Maria, with its numerous bars, restaurants, shops, banks etc is only a pleasant 20/25 minute walk away or 5 minutes in the shuttle bus. A visit to the salt lakes, which are situated in Pedra de Lume is worth a visit or take a look at the main capital of Espargos. A trip to the Blue Eye in the northern part of the island is also well worth a visit.

“Excellent accommodation in a good resort with great weather”

441 provides great accommodation - clean, nicely furnished and spacious with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 1 shower room, well equipped kitchen and good sized lounge/diner. The south facing terrace is a real bonus for evening sun and relaxation. We didn't eat in the hotel (it is expensive to take the all inclusive route) but preferred to go into Santa Maria for breakfast and evening meals. We used the shuttle bus in the morning or walked via the beach and took taxis at night. We really enjoyed our stay and would book again. You cannot beat the weather for a short-haul holiday in February 2014 - it was 25 degrees virtually every day with a lovely breeze.

“Quiet and Relaxing”

The owner of the apartment at Melia Tortuga was very helpful through out the booking process. The info pack that was supplied was also a great help. On arrival at Tortuga we were greeted with drinks and were checked in within 5 minutes. We then had a bell boy take our cases to our apartment and a standard hotel info pack was also presented to us. The complex itself is kept to a high standard and the pool areas very clean. We stayed SC so we tripped into Santa Maria most nights to eat and have a few drinks. The apartment itself was very clean and in excellent condition with all the necessary amenities. The beach was about a 2 minutes walk with plenty of beds, although entry into the water was quite rocky with a bit of care and common sense it really wasnt to difficult. The sea is quite rough so dippers should take care. We will be staying again. Dave
