“Great villa and location”

Reviewed 2 Jan 2018

The villa itself is nice, plus it's in a good location within the resort complex. There is an issue with the front door which has been mentioned in previous reviews but hasn't been fixed - make sure you get a proper key not just the keycard. You might think it's closed but it's not locked - if you push it hard, it will open unless it's properly locked. On arrival it wasn't too clear how to get access - there was a really big queue at the resort reception and when we made it to the front, not all of the reception staff seemed to know how to deal with private rentals. We had a few issues, like an ant invasion, but the letting staff were quick to deal with it when we reported it. The all inclusive resort around the villa is very well kept with nice flowers and clean. The pools are nice. The bars and restaurants are not geared up for dealing with customers who are not all inclusive. The drinks are expensive - €7 for a small pina colada which is made from a pre-mix. You're better to buy your own alcohol from the local supermarkets (or better still duty free on the plane!). The best value dining on site is the beach restaurant. The beach is nice and the best place to swim is immediately to the left and right of the bikini beach complex. It goes deep very quickly but it's much calmer water than the main beach. It's lovely and clear and if you have a snorkel and mask there are some lovely fish to look at. As for out and about - there are some nice restaurants in Santa Maria but you're best to book because all of them have only a small number of tables. Sal island doesn't have very much to do so be prepared for that. It's more of a chill out and relax island than somewhere to go sightseeing. The pier in Santa Maria is interesting to walk around when there's a fish catch in. The Japanese restaurant in the next hotel along is worth a visit - small gourmet portions but very tasty. Chez Pastis in Santa Maria does excellent steaks. Bikini Beach - don't bother. Very very overpriced, not worth it. You can change money at reception and the exchange rate isn't bad. If you want to change money at a bank in town, you need your passport, even if it's only cash you want to change. Taxis are always parked up outside the reception. It's €3 in the day and €4 at night to go to Santa Maria, fixed price. It's only a 5 minute drive. I would go back to this villa.

“Melia tortuga”

Reviewed 16 Jul 2017

Villa is on melia tortuga resort . We Loved the beach - hardly anyone there when we stayed . We stayed in various locations in cv and this is the beach we loved the most . Sunset awesome . We were met at reception with a warm welcome and a courtesy drink and taken to villa by Fabrizios colleague who was lovely . We were transported in the melia buggy - kids loved it - good fun . I think overall villa really excellent value for money , clean , Plenty of towels , hand wash , cooking utensils , necessities etc . Good aircon in master bedroom n lounge . Good kitchen - so nice to cook . Nice also that we received a welcome pack including juice, milk etc which was really a lovely touch . It was Lovely to sit out on the balcony - could see the sea above villa directly in front .Villa is just one row back from beach . Initially there was no remote for air conditioning or a hairdryer but these were delivered to us when requested by emailing fabrizio . Self catering in sal can be expensive particularly if using the villa verde shop across the road - better to get a taxi to cazu supermarket in Santa Maria but use cash . Kids could use the kids club and my daughter for her hair braided for free as part of this - bonus ! Only negative for us was the garden could be improved Lots of tree blossom etc ending up in the pool Grass quite long etc and looked unkept didn't make us want to sit out the back or swim to be honest and gave a poor first impression .The pool cleaner did appear to come daily and did a good job but foleage soon returned etc Great price though compared to other villas on the site . I was quoted £5500 uk pounds all inclusive for a melia villa - crazy - so this is an absolute bargain ! Thank you for having us x
