Description from owner

Description

We have only recently finished the conversion of Tal-Fenka. Formerly part of a mill, dating back to the Knights of St John (17th Century), Tal-Fenka boasts unobstructed views of the fortified Citadel beyond typical Gozitan farmland.

Imaginatively converted, our farmhouse as been carefully restored and yet retains all original features which you will slowly discover, like flagstones, niches, metre thick stonewalls, arches and wooden beams. It is, however, well equipped with a range of modern appliances to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

The three bedrooms in the farmhouse can hold up to 6 adults and 2 children, with the two main en suite bedrooms being fully air-conditioned (coin operated). Fans are provided in each bedroom and also in the lounge (free of charge) For guests visiting during the winter months, the farmhouse can be kept warm as in the living room there is a cast iron Franklin stove and also a gas heather for the upper bedroom.

The farmhouse also consists of a well-equipped kitchen, an arched sitting/dining room that is indeed an architectural gem and at mezzanine level we also have a cosy reading room with a comfortable and spacious sofa which can also be used as a double bed.

Location description from owner

The Island of Gozo region

The locality of Santa Lucija's, is situated in the North West of the island of Gozo. This is a quiet area, and mainly a farming village. Victoria, the capital of Gozo is only 5 minutes drive, while Dwejra Bay, one of the most beautiful spots for scuba-diving in the whole Mediterranean is only 10 minutes drive. Ggantija Temples, a World Heritage Site and one of the oldest free standing temples in the world is only 15 min. drive. Country roads leading to beautiful country spots are only minutes away. Local Store is only 2 minutes walk from the farmhouse while the nearest restaurant is only 5 minutes drive. The area is very safe and parking is definitely not a problem. Our weather makes Gozo an ideal holiday place all year round

The peaceful hamlet of Santa Lucija, although in itself incorporated within Kercem, is quite distinct with its rustic church square empathising a calm picturesque charm unequalled throughout the whole island. Santa Lucija is slightly inhabited by country folk with a few old houses disorderly built around an old chapel dedicated to St. Lucy.

Santa Lucija's green pastures, are the local shepherd's playground, and sights of grazing sheep are very common especially in winter or spring. A number of old farmhouses in the area have been discreetly converted to country villas, with great care spent on these properties to retain a rustic look. Santa Lucija is one of the few unspoilt places in Gozo whose inhabitants stubbornly resist a hectic urban life while rendering nostalgic from larger communities envious of what they gave away in time

“Typical Gozitan Farmhouse”

Reviewed 9 Oct 2012

Amazing property! Really beautifully set-up and we felt that we were staying in a historic place! It really fits the gozitan charm! In a peaceful location however close to the main city and we used the public buses which were quite cheap and efficient! Will be back next summer!
