Intro: Can Saladrigas is a gorgeous property especially recommended for groups with children! This is a very attractive newly renovated 17C stone farmhouse situated 3.5 km from Riudarenes, 18 km inland from Lloret and Saint Feliu de Guixols beaches on the coast, an hour up the AP-7 from Barcelona. This property has a lot going for it: a spacious house of history and character on a beautifully landscaped garden with lawns and trees and flowerbeds, a larger-than-most 10x5 meter private fenced swimming pool, and an excellent outdoor covered dining area conveniently situated between the BBQ and kitchen. But perhaps most impressive of all are the many play areas for children, including ping pong table & a babyfoot, a sandbox & dollhouse and even an 8 hole mini golf!

This property has a lot going for it: a spacious house of history and character on a beautifully landscaped garden with lawns and trees and flowerbeds, a larger-than-most 10x5 meter private fenced swimming pool, and an excellent outdoor covered dining area conveniently situated between the BBQ and kitchen. But perhaps most impressive of all are the many play areas for children, including ping pong table & a babyfoot, a sandbox & dollhouse and even an 8 hole mini golf!

The grounds: this property is set on a hillside so the owners have terraced the property into about 5 different levels, meaning you have plenty of nice walks on the different levels, each with its own character, without even having to leave the walled property. On the top level just above the BBQ area and covered parking area (4 or 5 cars) you can walk through an herb garden. Below that is the main house level, which includes a large esplanade in front of the house and a play area for kids (dollhouse, sandpit, ping pong, dart board, table football, minigolf, etc) behind the house. Below that the pool level, with 14 lounge chairs plus a teak table and chairs that can be moved to sun or shade, stone surface or grassy area under magnolias - as you prefer. Below the pool level are two more levels on a stone walkway separated by plants and aromatic shrubs. The bottom level has the 8-hole mini golf. Oh, the mostly birch and pine woods you can see around the property beyond the walls are also owned by your hosts, as far as the eye can see!

The house: the large wooden doors open onto a small vestibule designed to keep cold out in winter and heat out in summer. Beyond that is a main entrance hall, with the staircase to your left, a small salon to your right, and the hall leading in to the main part of the ground floor straight ahead. The salon is a cozy sitting room with a selection of games (chess, monopoly, etc) a flat screened digital TV with channels in VO & a DVD player. There is also ADSL & wifi signal emitting from the router in this room.

Just beyond the entrance hall is the elegant main salon-dining room, with a large stone fireplace, another flat screen TV with digital box, and fronted by a 3 person sofa and two large lazy chairs. Behind that, the large dining room table is nicely halogen-lit, with chairs for 16 guests and an old-fashioned but safe wooden highchair for babies. Adjacent to the table is an elegant old commode with plenty of glasses, cups, cloth napkins and table covers... and holds the small stereo, with CD, radio, and USB port.

Around this central living/dining room there are four massive brick arches leading to rest of the downstairs: the main arch coming in from the entrance, one leading to the kitchen, one to the WC for the salon with toilet and sink but no shower, and the last archway leading to the 2 downstairs bedrooms separated by the downstairs bathroom.

The kitchen is fully equipped with all the mod cons as well as many extras and there's a breakfast table seating around 12 guests.

A wide door leads directly from the kitchen to the outdoor BBQ area, a very wise and important passageway between the kitchen and the gorgeous outdoor eating areas , with a WC near the kitchen. So, there are 2 downstairs WCs, one for the salon/dining room, and one for the outdoor bbq kitchen area.

The bedroom/bathroom distribution: starting downstairs:

bedroom 1) has two smallish double beds, 135x190cm.

bedroom 2) has two single beds, 90x200cm.

Between the two bedrooms is a bathroom with nice beige tiles and a walk-in shower stall.

Upstairs there is a central living room (with a sofa bed) around which the 4 en suite upstairs bedrooms are distributed:

bedroom 3) has a double bed, 150x200cm & private bathroom with shower.

bedroom 4) has double bed, 150x200cm & a single bed 90x200cm and a bathroom with shower.

bedroom 5) has two single beds, 90x200cm & a bathroom with bathtub.

bedroom 6) has two small double beds, the old Spanish size 135x190cm.

The two upstairs bathrooms both have shower stalls and quite elegant blue, white and grey tilework.

All but one bedroom are good-sized and the rustic decor is appealing. But where Can Saladrigas really excels is the very high-quality of its exteriors. It is a paradise for adults and children alike. Mas Saladrigas is 3.5 kms south of les Mallorquines traffic circle in the town of Sils. Sils is where I offer half a dozen other houses and is well documented in these pages, and I can send you about 5 pages worth of detailed travel info on this area, including restaurants, shops, spas, sports, etc...

For now, suffice to say that this houses is set 1.7 kms off the main paved road, the dirt track leading to the house is in good shape, and it takes about 5 minutes to drive through the woods and fields. Sils town, 5 km away, has lots of shopping, farmer´s market on Fridays, excellent restaurants, tennis club, and the commuter train into Barcelona (1 hour, 7 Euros) and Girona (15 minutes, 2 Euros).

Lloret de Mar and the coast is 18 km away and you have dozens of blue-flag top-notch beaches to choose from. My guidebook to the area is 97 A-2 pages long and will help you get the most from your holiday!
