Location description from owner

The Puglia region

Puglia is fast becoming known as the Italy for connoisseurs and has recently been named amongst the Lonely Planet's, National Geographic's and New York Times best places to visit in 2014. And there is no better time than now.

“Wild beaches, seriously tempting food and wine, affordable prices – and few tourists – await those who venture to Salento, the sun-kissed south of Puglia at the heel of Italy's boot” Kate Simon The Guardian, Friday 25 April 2014

Salento the southern area of Puglia is characterised by it's kaleidoscopic architecture with Byzantine, Greek and Arabic and Roman Influences, local languages, art and culture, crystal clear waters, white sand beaches and natural rocky swimming pools, wild forests, winding coastal roads and silver olive groves. It's an area offering something for everyone. Every town and village has a yearly sagra (food and music festival), so in summer there's a choice of several to attend every night. But it doesn't just stop in the summer, with an all year round range of festivals throughout the year. San Martino (wine tasting) is from 12-16th November is just one to look out for.

A major producer of Italy's food and famous for it's hand made pasta, seafood and DOC wines, formerly used as blending wines to raise the quality Northern wines, Puglia is now coming into it's own. The local Cucina Povera, literally translated into 'peasant cooking' uses the simplest and freshest local organic ingredients including the locally harvested and produced extra Virgin Olive oil. There are a wide range of cooking courses available in the area and we'll be more than happy to help you organise any tours.

Santa Caterina

Here sea is calm, clean and clear, emerald green and cobalt blue and as the sun sets over the Ionian the sky bursts into fire and this is what makes this area of the Ionian coast unique and in Cava Li Santi you are just 1Km away from gazing out, cocktail in hand watching nature's spectacular show.

You'll be in the heart of wild lush vegetation and just a stones throw from Porto Selvaggio, one of the most stunning Mediterranean national parks and coastal lagoons, as the result of a reforestation project carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture in the 1950s, This area is an oasis of peace and prosperity.
This is a perfect location for those wishing to explore the area's nature, beaches, local towns, vineyards, art and culture, along the 20 km of breathtaking coast. It's a cyclist or drivers dream cruising through Porto Cesareo, Santa Catarina, Santa Maria al Bagno, Rivabella, Gallipoli, Lido San Giovanni e Baia Verde with the wind in your hair.

Santa Caterina along with Santa Maria al Bagno is a part of Nardo town council area. The small baroque market town is mainly made up of private houses, offering stunning sea views, holiday accommodation and luxurious “arabesque”villas , built in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. The area has a quiet and relaxed atmosphere, equipped with all the facilities needed for a relaxing stay.
