- Very Good
We have just returned from a fabulous holiday in scenic Sant Ambrogio. The villa was amazing, set in a quiet location which was just what we needed. A well earned restful and peaceful week.
“Perfect from start to finish”
Just returned from a long weekend break at Villa Mara, what a wonderful place, the views from the villa are nothing short of spectacular, the village is beautiful quaint, friendly and has everything you could possibly need. Couldn't have asked for more.... only perhaps a longer stay :) Contact with the owner was great from the outset. Rachel helped us book a return trip to and from the Airport from a local from the village, including a little stop at a supermarket to pick up some supplies.... only to find when we got there a beautiful welcome hamper of bread, cheese, water, wine fruit, biscuits, which was greatly appreciated and extremely generous. once we arrived at the Villa we were greeted by Antonio, who provided us with all the information we needed about the Villa, Village beach etc, he also took us into Cefalu one evening and picked us up. A real gem of a place not a single complaint, cant wait to return.
“Spectacular views from every level.”
Location in small village with uninterrupted views across the sea. Beautifully maintained villa and pool. Characterful streets narrow and steep. Antonio was very welcoming and informative. Would highly recommend.
“Perfect location and wonderful views”
We spent a very relaxing week in Villa Mara with our grown-up children (aged 18 and 21). The terrace outside the kitchen and above the swimming pool was the perfect place to have meals - plenty of space, beautiful views over the Mediterranean and on clear days we could see the Aeolian islands in the distance. We made the most of the barbecue in the garden and enjoyed eating at the villa most evenings. However, we can particularly recommend the pizzeria in the piazza in Sant'Ambrogio (5 minutes walk (uphill!)). Antonio was very helpful and welcoming and the villa was well equipped and very clean, and we all found the air-conditioning to be very effective in the bedrooms at night. We went into nearby Cefalu several times, and enjoyed visiting the world heritage Norman cathedral and climbing La Rocca, as well as having drinks in the main piazza. The local beach is pebbles but very clean and not too busy (300 steps back up to the village though!). The water is beautiful to swim in. We visited a couple of other beaches too which were lovely. We would highly recommend a stay at this villa.
“Stunning Location In Sant Ambrogio”
A truly stunning location for this 3 bed villa situated in the charming village of Sant Ambrogio. You aost feel like you're on the sea when you wake up each morning to the turquoise waters of northern Sicily. The villa itself is charming and quite traditional in style, set on 3 floors. All bedrooms are air conditioned and comfortable. The odd thing about the bills is that the living room needs to be accessed via going outdoors and the beautiful French Windows don't open onto the pool, which doesn't make sense. There is no dishwasher and the kitchen equipment is limited if you want to self cater. The villa is situated on a very steep slope and not for the faint-hearted driver, but worth it for the views and location and lovely to be close to the village.
“This was a perfect spot to relax and enjoy beautiful views.”
We loved his house and the location was perfect. We enjoyed the peacefulness of Sant Ambrogio and the proximity to Cefalu and Castelbueno along with beautiful views from each level of the house. Giuseppe, the local property manager was wonderful and very helpful. We were tired and hungry when we arrived and finding the house stocked with food and drinks was so apprecited. The drive to the house is a bit steep but we were fine when parking in the village and walking down to the house.
“Stunning villa in friendly village with beautiful views”
We had a superb week in Villa Mara at the very beginning of April. The villa overlooks the sea. Its views are stunning and it is set in the rocky hillside overlooking the sea. It is on 2 different levels (the top level having 2 storeys) and then beneath the level with the pool (the bottom level) the garden continues down the hill in fairly steep terraces. We travelled with 2 children (nearly 3 and nearly 5) who are sure footed with a good ratio of adult per child (3 adults) and the garden and villa really captivated the children's and our imagination - they loved playing in it but perhaps if you had a crawler or younger child it would be less relaxing (although each level outdoors was gated so this wouldn't necessarily be a problem). For us, it was absolutely perfect. The children enjoyed picking lemons from the lemon tree whenever we needed one for drinks etc! They loved the pool and the decking next to it made it a safe area to play around. They enjoyed playing up and down the steps and making dens in different places. There were all sorts of interesting plants and many different things to look at. We were met and helped out by Giuseppe, who was very kind and welcoming and answered all our questions. The children adored him and were very excited whenever they saw him and we also liked him a lot. The views were beautiful and everything was clean. The beds were comfortable. San Ambrogio is a friendly village with a pizzeria and very close to the much busier but also lovely town of Cefalu. The time of year we travelled to Sicily was lovely - lots of flowers in blossom and enough of a buzz around Cefalu to make it fun but not so heaving with people that we couldn't park etc. We found it warm during the day (T-shirts and shorts, fine for playing on the beach and in the sea) but needed jumpers in the evening. The pool wasn't warm because of the time of year but we used it a few times for short periods of time and it was good fun and, like everything else, beautifully maintained and clean. I would recommend this property rental very highly.
“A piece of paradise for rent”
We had the most relaxing, thrilling and genuine vacation experience imaginable. The house, its pool and its beautiful setting is a paradise in itself and Giuseppe took care of us in a wonderful and most hospitable way. Sant' Ambroggio's inhabitants welcomed us in every way and we felt very much as part of the village life for a week. We would return tomorrow if we could!
“Super location in unspoilt pretty Sicilian village with great sea views”
Sant' Ambrogio is an unspoilt village built into the hillside overlooking the sea, about 6km from the bustling town of Cefalu (5-10 mins drive along the coast road). The village has a pizzeria, a bar, coffee bar and convenience store. Villa Mara occupies a prime position overlooking the Mediterranean, a lovely swimming pool and terraces. The villa itself is well appointed and equipped. It is looked after by Guiseppe who lives in the village and is always at hand if you need any assistance. He is very friendly and informative and nothing is too much trouble. We stayed in late May with our two daughters (21 and 23) and had a lovely holiday.
