The Station Master's House is the restored former Sanquhar Station building - with all the facilities you need for a luxury self-catering break in a beautiful area.

The building has been beautifully restored and its unique character retained and our accommodation is as follows:

Modern well-equipped kitchen with granite worktops and a dishwasher

Stone flagged dining room (or loggia) seating up to 8 persons and created from the Station's light and airy waiting room space

Cosy living room with a log burner, hardwood floor and plasma TV as well as a DVD player and plenty of books, magazines and board games

Three beautiful bedrooms (two king-sized doubles and one twin - zippable to create a super king 6' double)

Three bathrooms - one en-suite with the master double bedroom, one as a family bathroom with a rolled top bath and one fully accessible WC and shower room

Utility room with boiler and drying rack, a garage and secure bike storage.

The single-level layout of the building and wider-than-normal doorways make the Station Master's House at Sanquhar Station ideal for those with disabilities.

Sanquhar

The ancient Town of Sanquhar, though granted its Royal charter as late as 1598, has its origins rooted in the 8th century when Sanquhar was first called ' Sean Caer ' meaning in the Celtic tongue ' Old Fort ' or ' Old Castle '.

A good selection of local shops includes a baker, butcher, florist, chemist, newsagent & 3 small supermarkets including a Co Op. Eateries within walking distance include an a local arts centre cafe, The Nithsdale & famous Blackaddie restaurant for fine dining.

Sanquhar is the site of the World's oldest Post Office and scene of 17th century Covenantors' declaration renouncing alliegience first to Charles I, then to James VII.

Sanquhar's Tolbooth erected in 1735 at the instigation of Charles Duke of Queensberry and designed by William Adam stands intact to this day and its graceful Palladian facade enhances the town's High Street.

The Southern Upland Way runs through Sanquhar which is an accommodation location for the route.
