Getting around

There are lots of lovely walks and cycle routes right from the doorstep if you want a relaxing break without too much travelling. For guests without a car, Sanquhar station is on the main Glasgow to Newcastle line so you can arrive by train and still get around by taking a day trip to Glasgow, Dumfries or many other places on the route. There are also regular buses passing through Sanquhar to Dumfries, Kilmarnock and Ayr. To travel off the main routes, a car is recommended to visit the other villages and attractions nearby.

Interaction with guest

As owners we endeavour to meet all guests on arrival to hand over the keys, show you how the heating works and do a brief check that everything is ok for you. We will then leave you to enjoy your break unless of course you want to have a chat about the local area, we are happy to answer any questions you may have. We can be contacted by phone throughout your stay should any queries arise and live only 5mins away should any issues require us to visit Viewforth.

A beautiful warm clean and comfortable bungalow with an enclosed garden for the mutts to run around and a lovely garden for us to eat out in. The area has very good eateries catering for all tastes and pockets .The Hopetoun Arms especially good. The Mennock Pass famous for walkers of The southern Upland way ....this area has stunning scenery. We have visited many time and have now found our ideal base.

Owner's reply: Thank you for your lovely comments. It was great to meet you and we're glad you enjoyed your stay at Viewforth. Hope to welcome you back again soon.

“Super cottage in Scotland”

Booked this cottage for a short break at really short notice. The communication was excellent with pleasant efficient e-mails. The cottage was booked and paid for within a matter of minutes. The owner asked if we would ring her to let her know our time of arrival on the day. We did and were met at the cottage. The cottage was clean, cosy and very well equipped. We also had free wifi access. It had a large well kept garden and also a small field adjoining which could be used if we wanted. At the bottom end of the garden was a duck pond but it really was big enough to be called a lake. The neighbours were extremely friendly, chatting to us and giving us advice on eating and shops in the village. The village had plenty of shops for self caters and a couple of pubs which served food and was easily within walking distance from the cottage.

“Just what we wanted, perfect!”

We needed a place to stay for a couple of nights whilst attending the Scottish Kennel Club Championship Show. I noticed this property because they took dogs but also we could book for just 2-3 nights. I sent an email enquiry as to how many dogs I could take & received a very quick reply saying all four would be welcome. We ended up taking three dogs and three adults. The bungalow was easy to find in a nice location close tot he centre of Sanquhar but with a lovely garden and use of the field next door for the dogs (beware if your dog can jump/climb - one of ours discovered she could get up the bank on to the road - luckily it is very quiet & she did come back, just surprised us!). Viewforth Cottage was very clean, nicely laid out and the owner was very friendly and helpful. It is an ideal base for exploring this part of SW Scotland (which we have done several times over the years) We enjoyed our stay and will be going back again for shows in future years and also maybe for family holidays as well.
