Situated high in Garfagnana, on the outskirts of the village of Caprignana, with dramatic mountain views which we would consider to be the best in the area, Caprignana, is a very sympathetically restored quality Country House and large private pool.

The spacious, light and airy property is a 3 bedroom apartment with a real traditional feel, with all modern comforts. There are plenty of beamed ceilings, traditional style flooring in some rooms, and quality solid wood floors in the ‘night zones’. Much of the furniture is hand made, as are the kitchens, and the chestnut wood windows…

There are 2 bathrooms, one of which is an en suite shower room, whilst there is also a luxury family bathroom with shower cubicle and separate bathtubs.

For daytime living there is a good quality open plan living/kitchen/diner, giving plenty of space to gather together. There is also a large dining terrace overlooking the garden (with table, chairs and umbrella and relaxing chairs).

The kitchen is equipped with oven, 5 ring hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave, and there is a flat screen SAT TV DVD player and CD player.

Outside, as well as the terrace there is a brand new infinity style pool 6M x 12M plus Roman steps, for the sole use of guests, and decked sunbathing area. Enclosed garden, plenty of parking, BBQ & wood oven and totally stunning views!

NB the other apartment in the house (with separate entrance) is occupied by the owner and his partner (they do not use pool, are usually out at work and of course fully respect privacy of guests). They do want you to have a great time and will be at hand to help out if you need anything.

Location description from owner

The Tuscany region

The Tuscan Region of Italy is well known for its warm balmy summers, beautiful countryside, rolling hills, mouth - watering food, and of course its towns and villages, rich with mediaeval architecture…The Garfagnana region of Tuscany, often known as its ‘Green Lung’ is situated away from the milling crowds that can often be found at the most famous Tuscan locations and is totally unspoilt, remaining untouched by tourism. The scenery is spectacular, green and mountainous with views of both the Apuane and Appenine mountains at every turn…And, due to the altitude whilst the weather can be very hot, it is always pleasantly cool for sleeping…The food is usually home made, using home grown produce, and is typically simple and extremely tasty. Prices here remain very reasonable due to the fact that food is prepared with the locals, and not tourists in mind…The local wine is cheap and surprisingly drinkable! The pace of life is slow and peaceful – spend your days enjoying secluded picnics, swimming in rivers, or watching locals play bocce or ‘cheese throwing’. Visit hundreds of ancient hill top villages, or relax at home basking in stunning scenery. For ‘townie’ days, visit the mediaeval towns of Barga, Lucca, Castelnuovo, with Pisa and Florence within easy reach too…This is Olde Worlde Italy

“Lovely stay for 2 families with teenagers”

Reviewed 29 Mar 2016

We were 2 families - totally 11 peoples - with children from 12 to 18 years. We rented the entire house, and had all the teenagers staying at the upper floor. The house is really nice - big kitchen area, nice big rooms, and good bathrooms - and we were able to sit outside for all our meals - enjoying the spectacular view and the tranquility!! The owners were great. A sunbed was missing in order for all 11 people to lay at the pool, and they actually made 2 extra sunbeds themselves during the week, and brought them to us. Also they were so very kind to bring us some of the vegetables from their own garden. All and all a wonderful vacation us all.

Thank you for your review. We are glad you ha a lovely time and enjoyed the great facilities at this property and of course the views! I have also sampled some of Clara's home grown vegetables and salad, with tomatoes that are out of this world! We hope to welcome you again another time. Lorraine at tuscan-retreats

“Fabulous place with stunning views, away from it all”

Reviewed 27 Sep 2015

We enjoyed a wonderful week in this beautiful place. Il Girasole is set in mountainous countryside so a car is essential. The villa was gorgeous – stylishly presented, very well maintained and absolutely immaculate, with everything we needed. Special touches of freshly grown vegetables and provisions on arrival were much appreciated, as was the delicious home-made tiramisu which appeared one morning as well! The pool was kept beautifully clean and the views were stunning. We would certainly recommend this place for a fabulous holiday

We are glad you loved this beautifully presented and well cared for house. Carla sends her best wishes and hopes to see you again. Thank you! Lorraine at tuscan-retreats

“A little piece of heaven”

Reviewed 8 Sep 2015

Far from the madding crowds, this is such a peaceful and picturesque place! The climate was perfect - lovely warm days and cool nights and NO MOSQUITOS!!! Only an hour from the gorgeous walled town of Lucca that is definitely worth a visit. About 30 mins drive from larger supermarkets. We enjoyed early morning strolls down tiny roads, beautiful mountain vistas around every corner, wondering where they would lead us and finished with a cappuccino the village café/bar while we waited for the bread van to make its deliveries. This was the nicest house that we have ever stayed in - spacious, well equipped, spotlessly clean and decorated to a very high standard. Perfect for our two families to enjoy - together but separate. The pool was fabulous and our children (aged 10 to 18) loved the water polo and the night-time swims. My favourite part was the long table on the veranda downstairs where we could all gather for evening meals, watching the sun set in the mountains. Clara and Giancarlo were wonderful hosts, very welcoming and friendly. Even though we didn't speak a word of Italian, we managed to communicate just fine and their son, Alessandro, has perfect English when the need arose. The baskets of freshly picked produce from their gardens were a lovely touch. One evening Clara made pizza dough for all 11 of us and she and Alessandro showed us how to use the wood-burning pizza oven - what great fun we had cooking our own pizzas and how delicious! The nearby Verrucole fortress was a very enjoyable outing - fun and interesting for all age groups. Would definitely recommend to anybody and hope to go back ourselves!

Thank you for your review. We are glad you loved the peace, views and the climate here. It is a place that gets in guests bones, and they come again and again!
