New Listing! Casa Zenaida combines a wonderful, prime Centro Historico location with the stunning remodel of a late 18th century home. A complete renovation and addition in 2015 by the Santa Fe design team of Solterra Design Build, collaborating with the best designer and builder in San Miguel, has produced a wonderful 3500 square foot home which evokes a cool Mexican vibe with a Mid-Century modern aesthetic. Completely done in a neutral palette, Casa Zenaida invites you to relax in elegant textures and stylish touches throughout this beautiful home. The entire house is shaded by a huge Jacaranda tree which blooms twice a year and provides a gorgeous, cooling canopy over everything.
Casa Zenaida is located on Diez de Sollano, considered one of the best streets in San Miguel. From the cobblestoned street, enter into the original "Sala", with its 15 foot ceiling, tiled floors, plaster walls and high fireplace. An antique Moroccan Beni Ourain rug, down filled linen sofas and leather lounge chairs invite you to escape the hustle and bustle of a day on the town. The Sala also has large flat screen TV and Sonos sound system for playing your own music or ours. A french door leads out to the courtyard, featuring olive trees, nichos, a water feature and a pretty powder room. A stairway leads to the second floor Master Suite and Rooftop Patio.
Continue through another set of french doors into the Dining Room with seating for 8. This room features an 18th century Cantera arch, original to the house. Through this arch is the gourmet kitchen, which features a fireplace, a center island, thick mesquite and concrete countertops and some very cool cement tile from Mexico City on the backsplash. Amenities include a 36" cook top, stainless oven and refrigerator, as well as a food processor, blender, toaster, coffee maker and Nespresso Machine with capsules. A large window over the sink, as well as another set of french doors open to the plant filled dining courtyard with a stone topped steel table which seats 8. There is also a Weber gas grill in this courtyard.
Continue through this courtyard up a few steps to the 2 guest bedrooms. The first bedroom has a Boveda ceiling with ceiling fan and stone flooring. A Queen Canopy bed with a memory foam mattress, high thread count cotton sheets and linen covered down comforters, plus German brushed cotton blankets guarantees a wonderful night's sleep. A desk, seating area and nice sized closet complete the room. There is an en-suite bath with marble counters, double sinks and a shower, a large skylight to let the sunshine in, and fluffy white towels. This bath and all the others feature fluffy bathrobes and hairdryers.
The second bedroom, also with a Boveda ceiling, ceiling fan and stone flooring, has a Linen upholstered Queen bed and the same luxurious bedding. This room has a small desk and also a separate chair. There is ample closet space. Through a set of antique Mexican double doors is the bright bath, with a double trough sink, marble counters and a shower.
Upstairs is the exquisite Master Suite, newly constructed with a lovely stone accent wall, beamed ceiling and a Cantera fireplace. We call it the "Treehouse Suite" because it has large french doors on opposite ends which open all the way to their 7' width. The Jacaranda shades the room and can be seen from every window. The focal point of this bedroom is the Teak four-poster bed, and there is a comfortable seating area and a desk. A walk in closet has plenty of space for a longer term rental, and a wonderful balcony with great seating and romantic lighting is the perfect space for a glass of wine before bed, The Master Bath has vein cut limestone counters, double sinks, a large soaking tub framed by a beautiful window and a shower. There are skylights to let the sunshine in, and french doors leading out to the balcony.
A wide catwalk leads over the first courtyard to the plant filled 700sf rooftop patio, with comfortable seating for 6 and two chaises. Large white umbrellas provide shade, and everywhere there are plants and trees: Large Ficuses, Oleanders, Lime and Oranges and Figs, plus many other pots of plants, some of which we are still rehabilitating from the previous owners. From the patio there are 360 degree views of the city and mountains, and the top of the Parrochia spires just a couple of blocks away. This is a lovely spot to catch sunsets and the fireworks and hot air balloons of San Miguel!
Casa Zenaida is located 1/2 block from the Parque Juarez and its many activities, exercise classes and lovely villas. Another block from the park is the Rosewood Hotel and the great rooftop bar La Luna. Two more blocks away is the Saturday Organic Market, which is a must for health conscious San MIguel visitors and locals. Around the corner from us on Aldama is the Hotel Matilda. A block over on Correo is La Parada, consistently voted one of the the top 3 restaurants on Tripadvisor. The Fat Mermaid is our neighborhood bar and is a 5 minute walk. Finally, the glorious Jardin is just 2 1/2 blocks away, with its non stop activity and fantastic people watching. For a perfect, romantic dinner, try The Restaurant just a block and a half away, and don’t forget to pick up a little something luxurious at the adjacent shop, Sollano 16.
