The Island of Gozo region
San Lawrenz is a small charming village on the western part of Gozo, built on a plain surrounded by three hills, Għammar, Gelmus and Ta' Dbieġi. The last mentioned, Ta' Dbieġi, rises 195 metres above sea level and is Gozo's highest point. In the limits of San Lawrenz there is also the splendid bay of Dwejra, renowned for its strange geological faults and admired by tourists and locals alike.
This picturesque village has succeeded in retaining its traditional and rural lifestyle. It has managed to open up to progress without sacrificing its natural beauty and those values and traditions, which form the identity of this charming village.
San Lawrenz is one of the two Gozitan localities that have taken their name from that of their patron saint. The other is the nearby hamlet of Santa Luċija, Gozo. San Lawrenz was established a parish on 15 March 1893. Before this date, the area was known as Ta' Ċangura. Most probably the site derived its name from a local family name or nickname. The date of origin of this area is not known. However the name Ta' Ċangura can be dated back to before the tragic Siege of Gozo, that is, before July 1551
The village feast of San Lawrenz is celebrated each year, unimaginatively in the warmest part of the Summer, namely around the first week of August.
There is one restaurant, the village shop and the local bar (run by the local football club to raise funds). In the same village there is a 5* Hotel with all the subsequent amenities.
Further down the road to the village of Gharb, always within a 10 minute walk from the village centre, one finds the Gozo Crafts Village, together with a larger food store (opening 7am to 7pm daily and 8am to 1pm on Sundays). One also finds 2 more restaurants close to this food store /supermarket.
The village of Gharb is just nearby (walking distance) with more restaurants and a unique museum in the quaint village square.
With a population of just 760 people (as of March 2013), it is the second least populated village on Gozo and third least in all of the Maltese Islands.

"Relax in a house full of character and go back in time"
Staying in Tal-Barun is truly a great experience. A house with a lot of character which will "force" you to leave all stress behind and feel like you are back in time enjoying a relaxing time. Very spacius with enough beds for a big family. We were four and another 3 could easliy fit in. Close to the most beautiful bay in Gozo. There is a great restaurant in St Laurenze main square and the whole atmosphere is to relax. The master bedroom has a lot of charm and it feels great to weake up in such a different room. Do recommend if you are the type of traveller who enjoy new experiences where you can get a lot of character whilst having the basic confort guaranteed. Marvik will address very quickly any issues you may have and he is a lovely person. All the very best and enjoy Gozo!
