Giovanni di Sinis is a one of the most attractive area for several reasons: Its particular geomorphology, has established a safe haven for people like the ancient Phoenicians, who founded Tharros around 248 BC.In fact, The Sinis peninsula separates the Gulf of Oristano, from the open sea, so that 'one part of the peninsula you can see a calm sea, in the other part of the peninsula you can see a wavy sea.. Locals call the two seas "alive sea " and "dead sea".

The area of the Sinis was colonized by peoples who built conical buildings called nuraghi: There are about 64 “ nuraghi, but only 31 are visible. The richness of ponds, the abundance of fish, water and food, have attracted human settlement since 4000 BC .
