Location description from owner

The Tuscany region

Tuscany is the jewel in Italy’s crown steeped in history with fantastic towns and cities and its passionate Italian people. Visitors to Tuscany come for many reasons. Many come in search of fine art, others to explore the extraordinary countryside. Gourmets and wine buffs descend on Tuscany to enjoy the simple yet wonderful cuisine and wine. Walkers enjoy the mountain paths, cyclists the rolling hills, the sea coast and islands. Students come to learn the beautiful Italian language and culture. This picturesque region offers perfect opportunities for couples, families, or groups to enjoy the romantic ambiance. This part of Tuscany enjoys rolling hills which change from season to season. There are wonderful vineyards, sunflowers, olive groves etc. There is a lot to see and do in Tuscany, the difficulty is really where to start. Certainly most should start with Florence (about an hour drive or by rail from nearby Poggibonsi) and is home to the world famous Uffizi museum, The Duomo and Ponte Vecchio bridge. It is packed with historic buildings and beautiful statues can be found in many of the open squares. Then continue on to Siena and Pisa. The roll call of città di arte, cities of art, is daunting: Siena, Arezzo, Cortona, San Gimignano and Lucca are all striking. Siena is of great environmental and artistic interest with a wealth of important monuments including: Piazza del Campo, one of the most beautiful medieval squares in Italy, Palazzo Pubblico (13th-14th century in Gothic style). The Campo is also famous as the site for the Palio (horse race) every July as well as other yearly events and is less than an hours drive. The opening scenes of James Bond recent film Quantum of Solace was filmed here. You can wander down cobbled streets where you'll find little pizza parlours and quaint gift shops. There are many designer shops, restaurants and public gardens to enjoy.

San Gimignano

The beautiful medieval village of San Gimignano (20 mins away) is well known all over the world as one of Tuscany treasures. It is the only example of a medieval city which has preserved through the centuries many of its ancient and beautiful imposing stone towers. San Gimignano can always amaze the visitor with its charm, beauty and the unique atmosphere of its historical centre, which is almost intact. There are many cobbled streets and pathways that wind through the centre of this charming Tuscan town offering magical glimpses and unforgettable corners. Set on the top of a hill, San Gimignano dominates the surrounding Tuscan countryside. There are plenty of signposted parking areas. Within the city walls there are beautiful little shops selling local food specialities and wines, clothes shops and many restaurants and ice cream parlours. There are regular festivals. Market day is Thursday. The ancient walled Etruscan town of Volterra is one of the oldest Etruscan settlements in Tuscany with clear evidence of pre-Roman civilisation. It sits high on a hill overlooking Podere Torricchi. The City is awash with wonderful restaurants and bars as well as museums, churches, a theatre, sports centre, cinema and its own Roman amphitheatre which hosts music, dance and drama. Throughout the year the City of Volterra organise a number of festivals including medieval pageants, jazz and traditional food and drink festivals. It is arguably the most exciting city in the Tuscan region. Staying in Torrichi is ideal for those who want to walk, ride, cycle, fish or play golf....or do nothing more than relax and enjoy the peace and tranquillity. For Andrea Bocelli lovers, why not visit his home town of Lajatico and enjoy his concert at the beautiful open air Teatro del Silenzio. (20 minutes away from Torricchi).

“Beautiful apartment in stunning Tuscan landscape”

Reviewed 8 Sep 2012

If you want a base in Tuscany that seems in the middle of nowhere, but is less than an hour from all of the famous Tuscan towns/villages, and a lovely apartment that is in the middle of stunning countryside, then this is the place for you. The apartment is comfortable and homely with everything you could need plus more. The views from it, and from the pool are amazing, so too the sunsets. We had a wonderful holiday and found everything straightforward to book, find it, and manage a great 2 weeks there. We had a nice mix of visiting tourists sights (Florence, Pisa, Siena, San Gimignano), finding beaches (some stunning ones both North West and South west), and chilling out by the pool enjoying living in the heart of Tuscany.

“Tranquility personified”

This is a gem of a villa, beautifully furnished and with every conceivable range of utensils, etc. Added to that is the lovely pool, fantastic scenery, tranquillity and of course those gorgeous sunsets.

“Fab views, well placed for Siena, San Gim, Volterra, Pisa and Florence”

Reviewed 1 Sep 2012

Lovely apartment with nice pool. We went with a teenager, younger child and friend and all had a good time, sunsets beautiful and we saw loads of wildlife including wild boar, deer and a porcupine! People all friendly, we had a minor problem with our apartment and a resident sorted us out! Loads of local restaurants and the chance to really chill out if you don't want to go anywhere and good local transport links if you want to take the train rather than drive to sights. Only downside is the rather rutted track to get to the apartment.

“very good option and location for the price in tuscan region”

Reviewed 28 Aug 2012

The villa was nice as were the grounds....the pool was a plus. It was close enough to little towns....especially wonderful San Gimignano.....to enjoy those towns and their conveniences, yet far enough away to get a great Tsucan experience. The only down sides were (1) directions and (2) smell. The couple that owns the villa were extremely helpful in arranging the rental and responding to email. They even provided very detailed directions from Pisa with Longitude and Latitude coordinates. However, the coordinates had me going on a several hour detour....even when reprogramming the coordinates in my Tom-Tom more than once. Also, if you are coming from anywhere other than the Pisa airport, the detailed directions are of limited assistance. When I arrived there was a rancid smell emitting from the bathroom. It never completely left after 3 days of being there. Regardless, it was notp unbareable and I very much enjoyed the stay which is why I still rated it above average. Also helpful to note, this villa is sort of a condo type of home with about 7 other privately owned units in a few different buildings. I recommend it.

“Perfect. The peace and tranquility of the place seeps into your bones”

This apartment is lovely. The location is unbelievable - don't be put off by the drive from the main road - it's worth it when you arrive. The views of the Tuscan countryside from every angle are breathtaking.

“Superb accommodation in a fantastic location”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2011

We were blown away when we saw the setting for this lovely apartment. The views are breathtaking - a huge panorama of the Tuscan countryside. We never tired of gazing at the surrounding hills and fields or of watching the sun set every evening, turning the sky into a myriad of colours. The apartment is very comfortable, most attractively presented and well equipped, with plenty of space for the four of us. We loved the outside area too and particularly enjoyed sitting at the patio table, especially during the balmy evenings. The communal pool is wonderful, overlooking the amazing views which surround it. The apartment is set in the depths of the countryside in a complex which has all the traditional Italian style - we so much appreciated the peace and tranquillity. However, it is a great centre for exploring since many historic towns of Tuscany are within easy reach, St Gimignano in particular being very accessible. The owner in England was very kind and helpful on the telephone before our trip. We felt very privileged to discover Casa Florio and would be extremely happy to revisit this enchanting holiday hideaway in the future - and to recommend it to our friends.
